Document image is segmented and classified into text, picture, or table by a document layout analysis, and the words in table regions are significant for keyword spotting because they are more meaningful than the words in other regions. This paper proposes a method to extract words from table regions in document images. As word extraction from table regions is practically regarded extracting words from cell regions composing the table, it is necessary to extract the cell correctly. In the cell extraction module, table frame is extracted first by analyzing connected components, and then the intersection points are extracted from the table frame. We modify the false intersections using the correlation between the neighboring intersections, and extract the cells using the information of intersections. Text regions in the individual cells are located by using the connected components information that was obtained during the cell extraction module, and they are segmented into text lines by using projection profiles. Finally we divide the segmented lines into words using gap clustering and special symbol detection. The experiment performed on In table images that are extracted from Korean documents, and shows $99.16\%$ accuracy of word extraction.
This paper proposes a algorithm that generate the intermediate scene from the stereo image. This system based on mesh representation method, and segmented objects which ar calculated from triangles the pro proposed algorithm is composed of two steps. One is triangle grouping using gestalt theory, and the other is disparity estimation using average disparity of segmented object. We make an experiment on the proposed algorithm with some stereo images and obtain good quality disparity map for intermediate scenes.

In this paper, a segmentation-based coding technique as applied to video sequences is proposed. A proposed method separates an image into contour and texture parts, then the visually-sensitive contour part is represented by chain codes and the visually-insensitive texture part is reconstructed by a representative motion vector of a region and mean of the segmented frame difference. It uses a change detector to find moving areas and adopts variable blocks to represent different motions correctly. For better quality of reconstructed images, the displaced frame difference between the original image and the motion compensated image reconstructed by the representative motion vector is segmented. Computer simulation with several video sequences shows that the proposed method gives better performance than the conventional ones in terms of the peak signal to noise ratio(PSNR) and compression ration.

When only global or local features of images are considered, the segmented results exhibit inevitable errors. To reduce these errors, first we divide the image into uniform and nonuniform regions by considering the local properties of the image. Next we obtain the segmented results by applying the Fuzzy C-means (FCM) algorithm to the picture and determining to which uniform reigons each pixel of the nonuniform regions belongs. To reduce the computational burden and memory required for the FCM algorithm, the equations used for FCM algorithm are modified. The performance of the proposed method is quantitatively compared to existing ones using only global or local features of the picture. Computer simualtion result shows that the segmented results obtained by applying the proposed method are superior to existing ones.

The segmentation of vessel including portal vein, hepatic vein and artery, from Computed Tomography (CT) images plays an important role in the therapeutic strategies for hepatic diseases. Representing segmented vessels in three dimensional spaces is extremely useful for doctors to plan liver surgery. In this paper, proposed method is focused on smoothing technique of segmented 3D liver vessels, which derived from 3D region growing approach. A pixel expand algorithm has been developed first to avoid vessel lose and disconnection cased by the next smoothing technique. And then a binary volume filtering technique has been implemented and applied to make the segmented binary vessel volume qualitatively smoother. This strategy uses an iterative relaxation process to extract isosurfaces from binary volumes while retaining anatomical structure and important features in the volume. Hard and irregular place in volume image has been eliminated as shown in the result part, which also demonstrated that proposed method is a suitable smoothing solution for post processing of fine vessel segmentation.

Prediction of rice yield during a growing season would be very helpful to magnify rice yield as it also allows better farm practices to maximize yield with greater profit and lesser costs. UAV imagery based automatic detection of rice can be a relevant solution for early prediction of yield. So, we propose an image processing technique to predict rice yield using low altitude UAV images. We proposed $L^*a^*b^*$ color space based image segmentation algorithm. All images were captured using UAV mounted RGB camera. The proposed algorithm was developed to find out rice grain area from the image background. We took RGB image and applied filter to remove noise and converted RGB image to $L^*a^*b^*$ color space. All color information contain in both $a^*$ and $b^*$ layers and by using k-mean clustering classification of these colors were executed. Variation between two colors can be measured and labelling of pixels was completed by cluster index. Image was finally segmented using color. The proposed method showed that rice grain could be segmented and we can recognize rice grains from the UAV images. We can analyze grain areas and by estimating area and volume we could predict rice yield.
In this paper, we proposed a three-dimensional visualization system for medical images in augmented reality based on deep learning. In the proposed system, the artificial neural network model performed fully automatic segmentation of the region of lung and pulmonary nodule from chest CT images. After applying the three-dimensional volume rendering method to the segmented images, it was visualized in augmented reality devices. As a result of the experiment, when nodules were present in the region of lung, it could be easily distinguished with the naked eye. Also, the location and shape of the lesions were intuitively confirmed. The evaluation was accomplished by comparing automated segmentation results of the test dataset to the manual segmented image. Through the evaluation of the segmentation model, we obtained the region of lung DSC (Dice Similarity Coefficient) of 98.77%, precision of 98.45%, recall of 99.10%. And the region of pulmonary nodule DSC of 91.88%, precision of 93.05%, recall of 90.94%. If this proposed system will be applied in medical fields such as medical practice and medical education, it is expected that it can contribute to custom organ modeling, lesion analysis, and surgical education and training of patients.
The KISTI (Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information) began to produce the Korean human information called Visible Korean and Digital Korean since 2000 because there was no human information in Korea which could represent the physical characteristics of Korean human body. The Visible Korean consists of CT, MR, sectioned and segmented images of Korean human body. We obtained the serially sectioned images by grinding the Korean cadaver in horizontal direction and segmented these images by outlining the inner organs of human. We have produced the sectioned images of Korean male whole body, male head, and female pelvis in2008. The segmentation and 3D reconstruction of these images are now in proceeding. The Digital Korean consists of CT images of about 100 Korean cadavers. These CT images were segmented by individual bone, reconstructed to produce the 3D bone models and the skin surface model was also added. The mechanical properties of individual bones were obtained by measuring the property of individual bone sample. We have distributed these Korean human informations to users in domestic and abroad. About 70 institutes in domestic, and 20 institutes in abroad have used our data in research use and nearly 160 proceedings and articles were published since 2001. We think these human informations have a role of medical information infrastructure that could be used in the field of medical education, biomechanics, virtual reality etc.
In this paper, we propose an automatic prostate segmentation method from dynamic magnetic resonance (MR) images. Our method detects contrast-enhanced images among the dynamic MR images using an average intensity analysis. Then, the candidate regions of prostate are detected by the B-spline non-rigid registration and subtraction between the pre-contrast and contrast-enhanced MR images. Finally, the prostate is segmented by performing a dilation operation outward, and sequential shape propagation inward. Our method was validated by ten data sets and the results were compared with the manually segmented results. The average volumetric overlap error was 6.8%, and average absolute volumetric measurement error was 2.5%. Our method could be used for the computer-aided prostate diagnosis, which requires an accurate prostate segmentation.

This paper presents a method to extract objects in radiographic images where all the allowable combinations of segmented regions are compared to a target object using Fourier descriptor. In the object extraction for usual images, a main problem is occlusion. In radiographic images, there is an advantage that the shape of an object is not occluded by other objects. It is because radiographic images represent the amount of radiation penetrated through objects. Considering the property of no occlusion in radiographic images, the shape based descriptors can be very effective to find objects. After all, the proposed object extraction method consists of three steps of segmenting regions, finding all the combinations of the segmented regions, and matching the combinations to the shape of the target object. In finding the combinations, we reduce a lot of computations to remove unnecessary combinations before matching. In matching, we employ Fourier descriptor so that the proposed method is rotation and shift invariant. Additionally, shape normalization is adopted to be scale invariant. By experiments, we verify that the proposed method works well in extracting objects.
