팔당호 퇴적층 남조류의 군집과 남조류 성장잠재성 분석 (Cyanobacteria Community and Growth Potential Test in Sediment of Lake Paldang)

  • We analyzed cyanobacterial community including akinete, resting cell, and benthic cyanobacteria in sediment of Bukhan, Namhan-River, Paldang-Lake, and Kyeongan-Stream and compared the physicochemical factors for water and pore water. We also performed cyanobacteria growth potential test through incubating sediment. As a result of physicochemical analysis, the concentrations of nutrients were similar for each depth of Bukhan-River. For Namhan-River and Lake Paldang sites, the concentrations of TP and DTN in bottom and deep water had higher levels. DTN in water body composed of NO3-N(73%) while DTN in pore water composed of NH3-N(77.8%). Benthic cyanobacteria in the sediment such as Oscillatoria tenuis, O. limosa, Phormidium tenue, Pseudanabaena limnetica, and Lyngbya sp. were dominant (between 0.0∼243.3×103 cells/g, w/w). Cell densities of cyanobacteria in sediment depth of 0∼2 cm in most sites were higher compared to those in other depths. The cell density of cyanobacteria in sediment correlated with pH, conductivity, BOD5, TP, DTP, and chl. a. Increased phytoplankton and organic matters were found to be able to inhibit the growth of benthic cyanobacteria. Results of cyanobacteria growth potential test after incubating sediment revealed that harmful cyanobacteria (Anabaena, Aphanizomenon, Microcystis, and Oscillatoria) appeared at 7 days post culturing. Base on these results, the methods used in this study are considered to be able to determine the appearance of harmful cyanobacteria.

국내 미계측 유역의 유사유출량 예측을 위한 군집별 유사전달율 산정식 도출 및 평가 (Development and Evaluation of Sediment Delivery Ratio Equation using Clustering Methods for Estimation of Sediment Discharge on Ungauged Basins in Korea)

  • Sediment discharge by rainfall runoff affects water quality in rivers such as turbid water, eutrophication. In order to solve various problems caused by soil loss, it is important to establish a sediment management plan for watersheds and rivers in advance. However, there is a lack of sediment data available for estimating sediment discharge in ungauged basins.. Thus, reasonable research is very important to evaluate and predict the sediment discharge quantitatively. In this study, cluster analysis was conducted to classify gauged watersheds into hydrologically homogeneous groups based on the watershed characteristics. Also, this study suggests a method to efficiently predict the sediment discharge for ungauged basins by developing and evaluating the SDR equations based on the PA-SDR module. As the result, the SDR equations for the classified watersheds were derived to predict the most reasonable sediment discharge of ungauged basins with 0.24 % ~ 10.89 % errors. It was found that the optimal parameters for the gauged basins reflect well characteristic of sediment movement. SDR equations proposed in this study will be available for estimating sediment discharge on ungauged basins. Also it is possible to utilize establishing the appropriate sediment management plan for integrated management of watershed and river in Korea.

패류양식해역인 고성만 주변 표층 퇴적물의 유기물과 중금속 분포 및 오염현황 (Distribution and Pollution Status of Organic Matter and Heavy Metals in Surface Sediment Around Goseong Bay, a Shellfish Farming Area, Korea)

  • 우리나라 남해안의 대표적인 패류양식해역 중에 하나인 고성만 주변 표층 퇴적물 중 유기물과 중금속의 분포 및 오염현황을 이해하기 위해 입도와 총유기탄소(TOC), 총질소(TN), 중금속 9종(As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Pb, Zn)에 대해 조사하였다. 고성만 주변 퇴적물은 세립질의 점토(clay)와 니(mud)로 이루어져 있었다. 유기물과 중금속은 만의 입구쪽에서 안쪽으로 갈수록 상대적으로 높은 농도를 보였다. 특히, 퇴적물중 유기물 및 중금속의 분포와 C/N 비(5-10)를 고려하였을 때, 고성만 퇴적물 중 유기물은 해역 자체 내 생물체에 의해 생성된 해양기원성 유기물의 영향을 크게 받고, 중금속은 만 주변 혹은 만내 산재해 있는 인위적인 오염원의 영향을 크게 받고 있는 것으로 파악되었다. 4 가지 퇴적물 오염평가 방법을 이용하여 고성만의 중금속 오염현황을 살펴본 결과, 고성만 퇴적물은 전 해역에 걸쳐 중금속에 대하여 약간 오염된 상태였으며, 만의 북쪽과 북동쪽의 일부 해역은 퇴적물의 중금속 오염도가 높아 퇴적물에 서식하는 저서생물에 큰 위해를 줄 수 있는 상태인 것으로 나타났다. 따라서, 고성만 주변 퇴적환경 개선을 위한 체계적인 관리계획의 수립과 함께 지속적인 양식활동 및 양식생물의 안전성 확보를 위한 오염물질에 대한 집중적인 모니터링 연구가 병행되어져야 한다.

수공구조물이 하천환경에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구(I) : 수리학적특성 (A Study on Effects of Hydraulic Structure on River Environment(I) : Hydraulic Characteristics)

  • In this study, water protection reservoir is selected as the target which is located at the estuary of Taehwa river to analyze and examine the effects of hydraulic structure on river environment. This study aims at the definition of factors which cause the change of ecological environment of river due to the effects of the sediment protection reservoir, and the proposal of the direction of environmental friendly river space development through the analysis and examination of stream variation conditions and riverbed variation characteristics among many effects of hydraulic structure on river environment before and after removal of the sediment protection reservoir when design flow is yielded. Firstly, in case of removal the existing sediment protection reservoir, the hydraulic variation characteristics like depth drop due to removal of the sediment protection reservoir are thought of little because it is examined that depths drop with about 0.01m and 0.01~0.56m when low flow is yielded and design flood yielded, respectively. Nextly, as the examination result of the variation characteristics of flow velocity in case of removal the existing sediment protection reservoir, it is thought that the concern about riverbed erosion is not serious according to the analyzed result as the mean velocity of the channel section where the velocity varies in case of removal the sediment protection reservoir is about 0.07~1.36m/s when low flow is yielded, and is about 1.02~2.41m/s when design flood is yielded despite riverbed erosion is concerned as it is examined that flow velocity is getting increase as about 0.01m/s when low flow is yielded and about 0.01~0.44m/s when design flood is yielded. Lastly, from the prediction result of riverbed variation for each flow amount condition before and after removal the sediment protection reservoir, it is known that the variation range of riverbed is nearly constant when flow amount of the channel exceeds a specific limit as it is analyzed that the more flow amount, the more erosion and sediment in the channel section of down stream part of the sediment protection reservoir and the sediment protection reservoir~Samho-gyo, and the variation ranges according to flow amount between flood condition and design flood condition have little difference in the channel section of the upstream of Samho-gyo.

Monitoring of Antibiotics in the Soil and Sediment Near at the Animal Feeding Operation and Wastewater Treatment Plant

  • Antibiotics have been used for treating human and animal disease and enhancing growth of cattle, swine, and poultries. However, overused antibiotics can be released into the environment and produce antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in the environment. Main objective of this research was to monitor residual of antibiotics in solid matrix such as manure, wastewater sludge, soil and sediment. Total of six antibiotics, Chlortetracycline (CTC), Oxytetracycline (OTC), Tetracycline (TC), Sulfamethazine (SMT), Sulfamethoxazole (SMX), Sulfathiazole (STZ), used for both human and animal was monitored. Result showed that the detection frequency of 6 antibiotics was ordered SMT (100%) > TC = CTC (75%) > OTC (38%) > STZ (13%) > SMZ (0%) and the highest concentration ($309.83{\mu}g\;kg^{-1}$, SMT) was observed in manure. Comparing residual concentration of antibiotics (TC, CTC, and OTC) in soil and sediment, higher concentration was observed in sediment indicating that dissolved forms of antibiotics are released into river and sorbed into sediment particle. In conclusion, monitoring for residual of antibiotics in the environment is necessary and more research should be conducted to verify the source of antibiotic release.

Seasonal Patterns of Sediment Supply to Coastal Foredune of Seungbong Island, Korea

  • The seasonal patterns of sediment supply were investigated during the period of June 1999 to June 2000 on a coastal foredune of Seungbong Island, Korea. Sediment supply was determined from measurements of geomorphic changes in the foredune and beach along six lines. Most sands were deposited on the dunefoot and foredune area during the winter and spring, from November to April. The largest amount of sands was deposited along the lines 5 and 6 near the sea-dike in the southern tip of the dune area. In general, the sand on the beach was gradually eroded in spring, summer and fall but deposited in winter. Total sediment accumulation over the study period was $484m^3$ for the foredune and $345m^3$ for the beach. The volume of the foredune increased in the winter and spring, whereas the volume of beach increased in the winter. Variation in sediment deposition appears to be controlled primarily by variations in the seasonal wind regime.

목포해역 점착성 퇴적물의 수송에 관한 수치모의 (Numerical Modeling of Cohesive Sediment Transport at Mokpo Coastal Zone)

  • 연안해역에서 점착성 퇴적물의 수송과정을 수치모의하였다. 복잡한 지형을 가진 연안해역에 효과적인 유한요소모형 이 해수유동과 퇴적물 수송을 모의하기 위해 수립되었다. 침식률을 기존 연구결과 및 바닥퇴적물 시료의 물리특성 분석자료를 가지고 편리하게 결정하였으며, 모의결과는 관측된 부유사 농도의 시간변화와 잘 일치하는 양호한 계산 결과를 보였다, 따라서 본 연구에서 사용한 침식률 결정방법이 퇴적물 수송모의에 효과적으로 활용될 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

고리원자력발전소 인근 조간대에 서식하는 퇴적물과 진주담치에 포함된 다환방향족 탄화수소(PAHs) (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons(PAHs) in Sediment and Mussels(Mytilus edulis) from the Intertidal Zone of Kori Nuclear Power Plant, Korea)

  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are ubiquitous contaminants in coastal marine environment. PAHs enter estuarine and nearshore marine environment via several routes such as combustion of fossil fuels, domestic and industrial effluents and oil spills. In August of 1997, sediment and mussels (Mytilus edulis) were collected at 6 sites near Kori nuclear power plant in order to analyze the PAH content by HPLC with uv/vis detection. The concentrations of 15 PAH in sediment ranged from < 1 to 5,900 ppb ( mean 173.5$\pm$99.7 ppb), and in mussels, from < 0.5 to 4,125 ppb (mean 105$\pm$60.5 ppb). Compared with other studies world over, the concentrations of carcinogenic PAHs were relatively low in both sediment and mussels from the intertidal zone of Kori. This study presents preliminary data for the PAH levels in sediment and mussels from the intertidal zone of Kori, and the data will hopefully be utilized for the assessment of oil pollution in the Southeast East Sea, Korea (especially for the PAHs).

Sediment Toxicity of Industrialized Coastal Areas of Korea Using Bioluminescent Marine Bacteria

  • The quality of marine sediments from the industrialized coastal areas of Korea (Ulsan Bay, Masan Bay, and artificial Lake Shihwa) was investigated using a bacterial bioluminescence toxicity test. Sediment toxicity results were compared with the levels of chemical contamination (trace metals, organic wastewater markers, acid volatile sulfides, total organic carbon). Effective concentration 50% (EC50) of sediments ranged from 0.014 to 1.126 mg/mL, which is comparable to or lower than values in contaminated lakes, rivers, and marine sediments of other countries. Sediment reference index (SRI) ranged from 13 to 1044, based on the EC50 of the negative control sample. Mean average SRI values in Masan Bay and Lake Shihwa were approximately 8 and 9 times as high as that in Ulsan Bay, indicating higher sediment toxicity and greater contamination in the two former regions. Sediment toxicity were strongly associated with the concentrations of some chemicals, suggesting that this test may be useful for determining potential chemical contamination in sediments.

  • 하천제방 축조를 위한 많은 양질의 성토재료는 시공헌장에서 쉽게 구하기 어려우며, 하천제방의 경제성 및 안정성에 있어서 가장 중요한 요인이라 할 수 있다. 따라서 경제적이고 안정적인 하천제방을 축조하기 위해서는 하상재료를 이용한 제방축조기술의 연구가 필수적이며 이를 위해서는 하상재료에 대하여 현장시험을 통한 설계 및 시공방법, 공학적 특성 분석이 요구되어진다. 본 연구에서는 대구 현풍천의 하상토(SP)를 대상으로 원재료 및 양질토인 화강풍화토(SW)와의 혼합에 따른 현장 다짐에 따른 공학적 특성을 평가하고 현장 혼합방법을 제시하였다.
