  • Reports of rampant cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities raise growing concerns on the effectiveness of current Static Analysis Security Testing (SAST) tools as an internet security device. Attentive to these concerns, this study aims to examine seven open-source SAST tools in order to account for their capabilities in detecting XSS vulnerabilities in PHP applications and to determine their performance in terms of effectiveness and analysis runtime. The representative tools - categorized as either text-based or graph-based analysis tools - were all test-run using real-world PHP applications with known XSS vulnerabilities. The collected vulnerability detection reports of each tool were analyzed with the aid of PhpStorm's data flow analyzer. It is observed that the detection rates of the tools calculated from the total vulnerabilities in the applications can be as high as 0.968 and as low as 0.006. Furthermore, the tools took an average of less than a minute to complete an analysis. Notably, their runtime is independent of their analysis type.

  • DevSecOps is a concept that adds security procedures to the operational procedures of DevOps to respond to the short development and operation cycle. Multi-step vulnerability scanning process should be considered to provide reliable security while supporting rapid development and deployment cycle in DevSecOps. Many open-source vulnerability scanning tools available can be used for each stage of scanning, but there are difficulties in evaluating the security level and identifying the importance of information in integrated operation due to the various functions supported by the tools and different security results. This paper proposes an integrated security metric design plan for scurity results and the combination of open-source scanning tools that can be used in security stage when building the open-source based DevSecOps system.

  • Home networking and its security issues are directly related. Previous studies have shown that home-network and understanding the security of it is a problem for non-technical users. The existing network management tools or ISP adapter tools are far too technical and difficult to be understood by ordinary home-network users. Its interface is not non-technical user-directed and does not address the home user's needs in securing their network. This paper presents an interactive security monitoring tool, which emphasizes support features for home-network users. The tool combines an interactive visual appearance with a persuasive approach that supports sustainability. It is not only an easy-to-use tool for all categories of home-network users but also acts as a monitoring feature for the user to secure their home-network.

  • The recent "Log4j Security Vulnerability Incident" has occurred, and the information system that uses the open source "Log4J" has been exposed to vulnerabilities. The incident brought great vulnerabilities in the information systems of South Korea's major government agencies or companies and global information systems, causing problems with open source vulnerabilities. Despite the advantages of many advantages, the current development paradigm, which is developed using open source, can easily spread software security vulnerabilities, ensuring open source safety and reliability. You need to check the open source. However, open source vulnerability scan tools have various languages and functions. Therefore, the existing software evaluation criteria are ambiguous and it is difficult to evaluate advantages and weaknesses, so this paper has developed a new evaluation criteria for the vulnerability analysis tools of open source

  • Critical infrastructure (CI) such as the electrical grid, transportation systems and water resource systems are controlled by Industrial Control and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) networks. During the last few years, cyber attackers have increasingly targeted such CI systems. This is of great concern because successful attacks have wide ranging impact and can cause widespread destruction and loss of life. As a result, there is a critical requirement to develop enhanced algorithms and tools to detect cyber threats for SCADA networks. Such tools have key differences with the tools utilized to detect cyber threats in regular IT networks. This paper discusses key factors which differentiate network security for SCADA networks versus regular IT networks. The paper also presents various approaches used for SCADA security and some of the advancements in the area.

  • The Honeypot is the mechanism that is made to learn more about the attackers like knowing about the method and pattern of attack and is also used to obtain very useful info about all intrusive activities. Honeypots usually categorized according to the interaction's level as (high, medium, low) interaction. The main purpose which is used as honey production and honey research. This paper includes a detailed study of two honeypot tools. The different honey pot findings are put in in this paper to illustrate how honey is working in a real environment and even how it reacts when undesirable interest obtain in this network, and these tools are used to improve the concept of security, protection and confidentiality within or outside the organization to avoid attacks, vulnerabilities and breaches.

  • With the growing of smart devices market, malicious behavior has gradually expanded its scope. Accordingly, many studies have been conducted to analyze malicious apps and automated analysis tools have been released. However these tools cause the side effects that the application protection tools such as ProGuard, DexGuard become vulnerable to analyzers or attackers. This paper suggests the protection mechanism to apply to the Android apps using security token, rather than general-purpose protection solutions that can be applied in malicious apps. The main features of this technique are that Android app is not properly loaded in the memory when the security token is abnormal or is not inserted and protected parts using the technique are not exposed.

  • Ethical hackers are using different tools and techniques to encounter malicious cyber-attacks generated by bad hackers. During the software development process, development teams typically bypass or ignore the security parameters of the software. Whereas, with the advent of online web-based software, security is an essential part of the software development process for implementing secure software. Security features cannot be added as additional at the end of the software deployment process, but they need to be paid attention throughout the SDLC. In that view, this paper presents a new, Ethical Hacking - Software Development Life Cycle (EH-SDLC) introducing ethical hacking processes and phases to be followed during the SDLC. Adopting these techniques in SDLC ensures that consumers find the end-product safe, secure and stable. Having a team of penetration testers as part of the SDLC process will help you avoid incurring unnecessary costs that come up after the data breach. This research work aims to discuss different operating systems and tools in order to facilitate the secure execution of the penetration tests during SDLC. Thus, it helps to improve the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the software products.

  • Hard disk passwords are commonly not well known. If the passwords are set, forensic investigators are not allowed to access data on hard disks, so they can be used to obstruct investigations. Expensive tools such as PC-3000 are necessary for unlocking such hard disk passwords. But it would be a burden on both organizations that should pay for these tools and forensic investigators that are unfamiliar with these tools. This paper discusses knowledge required for unlocking hard disk passwords and proposes methods for unlocking the passwords without high-priced tools. And with a vendor-specific method, this paper provides procedures for acquiring passwords and unlocking hard disk drives.
