  • Even though various types of sensors are being used for security applications, radar sensors are being suggested as an alternative due to the privacy issues. Among those radar sensors, PD radar has high-complexity receiver, but, FMCW radar requires fewer resources. However, FMCW has disadvantage from the use of 2D-FFT which increases the complexity, and it is difficult to distinguish people from objects those are stationary. In this paper, we present the design and the implementation results of the radar signal processor (RSP) that can distinguish between people and object by respiration measurement using phase estimation without 2D-FFT. The proposed RSP is designed with Verilog-HDL and is implemented on FPGA device. It was confirmed that the proposed RSP includes 6,425 LUT, 4,243 register, and 12,288 memory bits with 92.1% accuracy for target's breathing status.

  • Localization systems can be used with various circumstances like measuring population movement and rescue technology, even in security technology (like infiltration detection system). Vision sensors such as camera often used for localization is susceptible with light and temperature, and can cause invasion of privacy. In this paper, we used ultra-wideband radar technology (which is not limited by aforementioned problems) and machine learning techniques to measure the number and location of occupants in other indoor spaces behind the wall. We used four different algorithms and compared their results, including extremely randomized tree for four different situations; detect the number of occupants in a classroom, split the classroom into 28 locations and check the position of occupant, select one out of the 28 locations, divide it into 16 fine-grained locations, and check the position of occupant, and checking the positions of two occupants (existing in different locations). Overall, four algorithms showed good results and we verified that detecting the number and location of occupants are possible with high accuracy using machine learning. Also we have considered the possibility of service expansion using the oneM2M standard platform and expect to develop more service and products if this technology is used in various fields.

  • Recently, artificial intelligence parking control systems have increased the recognition rate of vehicle license plates using deep learning, but there is a problem that they cannot determine vehicles with fake license plates. Despite these security problems, several institutions have been using the existing system so far. For example, in an experiment using a counterfeit license plate, there are cases of successful entry into major government agencies. This paper proposes an improved system over the existing artificial intelligence parking control system to prevent vehicles with such fake license plates from entering. The proposed method is to use the degree of matching of the front feature points of the vehicle as a passing criterion using the ORB algorithm that extracts information on feature points characterized by an image, just as the existing system uses the matching of vehicle license plates as a passing criterion. In addition, a procedure for checking whether a vehicle exists inside was included in the proposed system to prevent the entry of the same type of vehicle with a fake license plate. As a result of the experiment, it showed the improved performance in identifying vehicles with fake license plates compared to the existing system. These results confirmed that the methods proposed in this paper could be applied to the existing parking control system while taking the flow of the original artificial intelligence parking control system to prevent vehicles with fake license plates from entering.

  • As the information and communication environment develops, the environment of military facilities is also development remarkably. In proportion to this, cyber threats are also increasing, and in particular, APT attacks, which are difficult to prevent with existing signature-based cyber defense systems, are frequently targeting military and national infrastructure. It is important to identify attack groups for appropriate response, but it is very difficult to identify them due to the nature of cyber attacks conducted in secret using methods such as anti-forensics. In the past, after an attack was detected, a security expert had to perform high-level analysis for a long time based on the large amount of evidence collected to get a clue about the attack group. To solve this problem, in this paper, we proposed an automation technique that can classify an attack group within a short time after detection. In case of APT attacks, compared to general cyber attacks, the number of attacks is small, there is not much known data, and it is designed to bypass signature-based cyber defense techniques. As an attack model, we used MITRE ATT&CK® which modeled many parts of cyber attacks. We design an impact score considering the versatility of the attack techniques and proposed a group similarity score based on this. Experimental results show that the proposed method classified the attack group with a 72.62% probability based on Top-5 accuracy.

  • The construction of smart communities is a new method and important measure to ensure the security of residential areas. In order to solve the problem of low accuracy in face recognition caused by distorting facial features due to monitoring camera angles and other external factors, this paper proposes the following optimization strategies in designing a face recognition network: firstly, a global graph convolution module is designed to encode facial features as graph nodes, and a multi-scale feature enhancement residual module is designed to extract facial keypoint features in conjunction with the global graph convolution module. Secondly, after obtaining facial keypoints, they are constructed as a directed graph structure, and graph attention mechanisms are used to enhance the representation power of graph features. Finally, tensor computations are performed on the graph features of two faces, and the aggregated features are extracted and discriminated by a fully connected layer to determine whether the individuals' identities are the same. Through various experimental tests, the network designed in this paper achieves an AUC index of 85.65% for facial keypoint localization on the 300W public dataset and 88.92% on a self-built dataset. In terms of face recognition accuracy, the proposed network achieves an accuracy of 83.41% on the IBUG public dataset and 96.74% on a self-built dataset. Experimental results demonstrate that the network designed in this paper exhibits high detection and recognition accuracy for faces in surveillance videos.

  • The creation of vertically aligned one-dimensional (1D) nanostructures through the decoration of n-type tin oxide (SnO2) on p-type chromium oxide (Cr2O3) constitutes an effective strategy for enhancing gas sensing performance. These heterostructures are deposited in multiple stages using a glancing angle deposition technique with an electron beam evaporator, resulting in a reduction in the surface porosity of the nanorods as SnO2 is incorporated. In comparison to Cr2O3 films, the bare Cr2O3 nanorods exhibits a response 3.3 times greater to 50 ppm H2S at 300℃, while the SnO2-decorated Cr2O3 nanorods demonstrate an eleven-fold increase in response. Furthermore, when subjected to various gases (CH4, H2S, CO2, H2), a notable selectivity toward H2S is observed. This study paves the way for the development of p-type semiconductor sensors with heightened selectivity and sensitivity towards H2S, thus advancing the prospects of gas sensor technology.

  • Recently, advancements and commercialization in the field of maritime autonomous surface ships (MASS) has rapidly progressed. Concurrently, studies are also underway to develop methods for automatically surveying the condition of various on-board equipment remotely to ensure the navigational safety of MASS. One key issue that has gained prominence is the method to obtain values from analog gauges installed in various equipment through image processing. This approach has the advantage of enabling the non-contact detection of gauge values without modifying or changing already installed or planned equipment, eliminating the need for type approval changes from shipping classifications. The objective of this study was to identify a dynamically changing indicator needle within noisy images of analog gauges. The needle object must be identified because its position significantly affects the accurate reading of gauge values. An analog pressure gauge attached to an emergency fire pump model was used for image capture to identify the needle object. The acquired images were pre-processed through Gaussian filtering, thresholding, and morphological operations. The needle object was then identified through Hough Transform. The experimental results confirmed that the center and object of the indicator needle could be identified in images of noisy analog gauges. The findings suggest that the image processing method applied in this study can be utilized for shape identification in analog gauges installed on ships. This study is expected to be applicable as an image processing method for the automatic remote survey of MASS.

  • Since the release of Meta's Segment Anything Model (SAM), a large-scale vision transformer generation model with rapid image segmentation capabilities, several studies have been conducted to apply this technology in various fields. In this study, we aimed to investigate the applicability of SAM for water bodies detection and extraction using the QGIS Geo-SAM plugin, which enables the use of SAM with satellite imagery. The experimental data consisted of Compact Advanced Satellite 500 (CAS500)-1 images. The results obtained by applying SAM to these data were compared with manually digitized water objects, Open Street Map (OSM), and water body data from the National Geographic Information Institute (NGII)-based hydrological digital map. The mean Intersection over Union (mIoU) calculated for all features extracted using SAM and these three-comparison data were 0.7490, 0.5905, and 0.4921, respectively. For features commonly appeared or extracted in all datasets, the results were 0.9189, 0.8779, and 0.7715, respectively. Based on analysis of the spatial consistency between SAM results and other comparison data, SAM showed limitations in detecting small-scale or poorly defined streams but provided meaningful segmentation results for water body classification.
