The purpose of this study was to identify the preferable motivation types in science-learning and to find out the relationship between these types and scientific achievement of students in the secondary school. The subjects of the study were the second grade 581 students sampled by random cluster sampling method in three middle schools and three high schools. Three motivation types in science learning were analyzed, and they were named to task-orientation, ego-orientation and work-avoidance. From our results, secondary school students preferred task-orientation and work-avoidance to ego-orientation. In the case of task-orientation, high school students, especially in male group, had much preferable tendency than that of middle school students (p<0.001). It is interpreted that, as the level of scientific content of texts or the cognitive level of students were higher, a preference for the motivation type was focused to the task-orientation, especially in male group. In the case of ego-orientation, the female group showed much preferable tendency than that of male group in middle school (p<0.05). However, the female group in high school students was not different from the other groups in this motivation type. In the case of work-avoidance, there were not only a significant difference between males and females in the middle school (p<0.001), but also difference between middle and high school students in female group (p<0.05). It showed that female group had much preferable tendency than that of male group, and this tendency was decreased to the higher grade students in secondary school. From the analysis of correlation between motivation types and scientific achievement, task-orientation and work-avoidance were correlated to the scientific achievement. Its results were interpreted that the scientific achievement could be accomplished by the external motivation stimulus as well as the scientific content of texts. The task-orientation were comparatively correlated to the intelligence quality. It means that the students having high intelligence quality showed much preferable for the task-orientation.

In this study, we estimated the number of secondary COVID-19 infections caused by students with potential transmission potential home. When the existing Monte Carlo method was applied to Korean data, the average number of household members of the second COVID-19 infected was predicted. The summary of this study is as follows. First, in general, the number of secondary infections by students returning home from school is greatly influenced by the virus infection rate of each student group they contact while returning home from school. Korea-based empirical research on this is needed. Second, the number of secondary infections by Korean students was relatively lower than that of previous studies. This can be interpreted as being due to the domestic furniture structure. Third, unlike previous studies that assumed the distribution of secondary infected individuals as normal distribution, assuming a negative binomial distribution, the number of secondary infected individuals was sensitively changed according to the estimated parameters. Interpretation of this result shows that the number of secondary infections may vary depending on the time of decision making, the target region, and the target student group. Finally, according to the results of this analysis, a proposal was made to support education policy decisions.

Purpose: The Malaysia Education Blueprint is primarily concerned with the transformation of students' minds through the curriculum offered at the school level (2013-2025). Diversity in the application of teaching and learning methods is one means of achieving the transformation of students' minds through the Secondary School Standard Curriculum. Consequently, the production of ExSheetLink's Module for Accounting Education is the primary outcome of this study, which had three objectives: the need for ExSheetLink's Module in the process of producing financial statements for Accounting Students in secondary school to the Accounting Teacher; and the design of ExSheetLink's Module that meets the entire process in the production of financial statements for Accounting Students in secondary school based on the Documents Curriculum and the Accounting Students' needs. Research design, data and methodology: This study outlines the research framework for module development in accordance with the Design and Development Research Method, which combines multiple research techniques (Mixed Method). Results: The development of ExSheetLink's Module is completed and can be used for the level of effectiveness purposes. Conclusion: The transformation of Accounting Students' minds is a success thanks to the ExSheetLink Module. Researchers also suggested that all Malaysian Secondary School accounting students test the ExSheetLink Module.
From the students' point of view, this study was carried out to find out barriers to environmental conservation practice of secondary school students. According to the questionare and interview with secondary school students on barriers to environmental conservation practice at home, school, society and fellow-relation conditions and in personal psychology, the following findings were resulted. The major barriers to environmental conservation practice are (1) not doing environmental conservation practice of parents, friends and neighborhood, (2) having no interest in environment and environmental problems, (3) dirty and laboriousness of environmental conservation practice, (4) lack of environmental equipments, (5) the shortage of chance and time for environmental conversation practice, (6) lack of the inducement for environmental conservaton from school, (7) little effects of individual environmental practice, (8) a busy life, (9) shortage of the voluntary courage to practice for environmental conservation, (10) lack of compensation on the environmental conservation practice, (11) anti-environmental behavior among friends, (12) urging on edcation of parents. Those barriers related with home, school, society and fellow-relation anti-environmental conditions hold back environmental conservation practice of secondary school students. Those barriers are divided into three closely correlated tipes, (1) unpleasant traits of environmental conservation practice such as cleaning, recycling were linked with personal psychology, (2) lack of the social interest and practice for environmental conservation were linked with personal psychology, (3) the social atmosphere to urge on education was linked with students' busy life and the shortage of chance and time for environmental conversation practice. According to the results, attractive environmental education programs, home environmental education, cooperative environmental conservation programs, and inducements for environmental conservation are reguired of secondary school students to promote environmental conservation practice.
Background: Dokha is a novel form of smoking in United Arab Emirates (UAE) on which there is very little published literature, especially among adolescents, and this form of smoking has been not been addressed adequately in the smoking cessation strategies in the UAE. Objectives: To assess the prevalence of dokha smoking among male secondary school students in Ajman UAE. Materials and Methods: A cross sectional survey was conducted among male secondary school students in Ajman, UAE. A total of 560 participants filled in self-administered questionnaires. Results: The prevalence of ever smokers was 39%; ever dokha smokers was 36% and current dokha smokers was 24%. The prevalence is very high when compared to other forms of smoking in the region and globally. Prevalence increased with increasing age and grade of students, prevalence of ever smokers, ever dokha smokers and current dokha smokers was lower in students in the science stream. 40% of the smokers used dokha, cigarettes and shisha, 30% used dokha and cigarettes, and 21% used dokha alone. 30% of the students smoked dokha on all days of the month. Conclusions: The prevalence of ever smokers, ever dokha smokers and current dokha smokers is very high. There is an urgent need for specific health promotion programs tailored to this age group on prevention of dokha smoking and policies restricting the availability of dokha to this age group.
Through this study, we aimed to capture the nature of a mathematics method course, called "the Curriculum Development and Teaching Methods in Mathematics Education" which is a pedagogy course for teaching for secondary school mathematics taught at a university located in a south eastern part of South Korea. The research participants include three junior students who took the methods course and a local high school math teacher with two professors. The research has three parts. First, we designed a method course to prepare the junior or senior students for a teaching practicum. The individual students gave a mini lecture about a secondary mathematical topic as a course requirement. Second, the three students watched a classroom video-clip of the high school teacher and analyzed his instruction before the actual classroom visits. Furthermore, by "Let's Learn" program for students, the course was associated with a local community through the students and so that they could visit the teacher's classroom three times to observe his math classroom teaching. The students discussed the difference between their own mini lectures and the actual math classroom teaching to develop an understanding of what it entails to teach an actual math class. Third, the first author supervised the students' activities in the program including their report for it to bring out their findings to the class of the method course. We found out this method course provided the students with the experience of various aspects of actual math lesson as well as learning theories about the pedagogy for teaching for secondary school mathematics. We conclude that this course gives a model for the method course in mathematics education for secondary school mathematics.

The study was a descriptive cross-sectional survey which investigated the reading preferences of secondary school students in Nigeria during the lockdown occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic. A hundred secondary school students in Ile- Ife and Ilesa in Osun State, Nigeria were the study respondents. Close ended self-administered questionnaire was used to obtain data. Of the one hundred questionnaire which were applied to the study respondents, ninety-three were retrieved. Data obtained were analyzed using simple frequencies and percentages. The study established that majority of respondents were not pressured to read but read for pleasure. Preference for a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books which was read for purposes ranging from academic, social, relaxation and information was indicated by respondents. Availability of reading materials determined reading preference of majority of respondents as many could not afford to access electronic books whether free or not. The researchers recommended that different types of reading materials that suit the reading preferences and meet the diverse purpose of reading should be provided for the secondary school students during lockdown to improve their reading habits. Public libraries should function during this lock down period within the guidelines of the appropriate health authorities, while school libraries should be equipped to offer virtual services during the lockdown and the students should be exposed to e-books for their reading pleasure.
Teachers and students' knowledge of zero was investigated through data collected from 16 preservice secondary mathematics teachers and 20 gifted secondary school students. Results showed that these teachers and students had an inadequate knowledge about zero. They exhibited a reluctance to accept zero as an attribute for classification, confusion as to whether or not zero is a number, and stable patterns of computational error. Although leachers and researchers have long recognized the value of analyzing student errors for diagnosis and remediation, students have not been encouraged to take advantage of errors as learning opportunities in mathematics instruction. The article suggests using errors as springboards for inquiry in action, discusses its potential contributions to mathematics instruction by analyzing students and preservice teachers errors related to zero.
Cervical cancer is one of the most frequent cancers in women worldwide. Persistent infection with a human papillomavirus (HPV) is the main cause for cervical cancer. Vaccination and Pap smear screening are the best methods for prevention of the disease. The objective of this cross-sectional study was to assess the knowledge and views of upper secondary school female students in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, toward prevention of cervical cancer. This study was conducted from April 2009 to September 2009 in 8 schools in Kuala Lumpur area using pre-tested and validated questionnaires. Results indicated that the respondents had low knowledge of cervical cancer and its prevention although the majority of students (80.4%) had heard about the disease. The level of knowledge of cervical cancr and its prevention was significantly higher among students from the science stream (p<0.001) compared to students from the art stream. Most students (69.3%) agreed to take the vaccination if the service was available in schools. A high percentage of students (82.2%) agreed that the vaccination should be compulsory to the students. In conclusion, most students had low knowledge of cervical cancer and its prevention but they had positive attitude toward vaccination and agreed that vaccination should be compulsory. Therefore, suitable educational programmes should be developed to improve the knowledge of secondary school students on the prevention of cervical cancer.
To lessen the ratio of under achievers is one of the most urgent task which recent school mathematics education is confronted with. To cope with this problem efficiently, math. teachers should know more specifically and concretely the causes that make the students dislike mathematics. But actually, there are too many reasons for these situations. So, in this paper, we tried to devise a tool to analyze and measure each student's math. disliking status. We proceeded this research via the following procedures. 1. Grasping the causes which make the students dislike mathematics as specifically as possible. To obtain this, we asked more than 300 of secondary school students to write down their thoughts about school mathematics. 2. Analyzing the responses, we abstracted 74 numbers of items which were supposed to be the causes for secondary school students'mathematics disliking. 3. With these items we made a test to measure students'aptitude for each item. 4. With this test paper, we tested over 800 of secondary school students. Through factor analysis and theoretical argument, we categorized the 74 items into 11 groups whose names were defined as factors of mathematics disliking. 5. For each of these 11 factors, we developed a norm which could serve as standard of comparison in measuring each student's mathematics disliking status. Using this tool teachers were able to describe each student's traits of mathematics disliking more specifically.
