Many researches related to STEAM education have been actively conducted for developing elementary and secondary school students' comprehensive and logical thinking ability in relation to creativity education in Korea. Each sub factor of STEAM education requires creative thinking with the ability to be merged together to solve problems as integrated or combined forms in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. Also, these STEAM activities and experiences should be carried out at various places outside the classroom in school. Although various educational programs to enhance mathematical creativity have been emphasized for elementary and secondary school students, recent tendency to focus on classroom learning in the school makes it difficult to develop creative thinking ability of students. This research is mainly based on the result of the project "Development and Administration of STEAM Outreach Program in 2016" supported by KOFAC(Korea Foundation for the Achievement of Science & Creativity). The purpose of this research is to develop a STEAM outreach program including students' activity books, teachers' manuals and administration manual that can maximize STEAM-related interest of students, and to provide a chance for elementary and secondary school students to experience creative thinking based on sub factors of STEAM. The STEAM competency total score and the perception of convergence education were significantly increased for all students participating this program, but some sub factors showed different result by school levels. The STEAM outreach program developed by this study is designed to emphasize STEAM education especially 'based on' mathematics in order to provide students with the opportunity to experience more interest in the field of mathematics and will be able to provide an interesting creative STEAM outreach program that utilizes a variety of activities which, we expect, would help students to consider their career in the future.
This study explored preservice secondary mathematics teachers' mathematical knowledge for teaching [MKT]. In order to measure preservice teachers' MKT, we developed items according to Ball, Thames & Phelps (2008)'s domains and conducted to 53 preservice teachers. Also, we interviewed 1 preservice teacher with the items and a set of interview questions. The findings from the data analysis suggested as follows: a) overall, the preservice teachers scored average 30.2 out of 100; b) the preservice teachers appeared to be unable to explain students' difficulties in learning a specific mathematical idea and how they would respond to and resolve such difficulties.

The unsteady mixed convection Casson type MHD nanofluid flow in the stagnation point with motile microorganism around a spinning sphere is investigated. Time dependent flow dynamics is considered. Similarity transformations have been employed to transfer the governing partial differential structure into ordinary differential structure. The impact of distinct parameters is examined via tables and graphs. The impact of rotational parameter (spin) on profiles of velocity profiles, temperature and concentration is revealed for unsteady mixed convection Casson type MHD nanofluid flow. It is observed that it is clear that rotational parameter has a great effect on non-dimensional primary velocity component but rotational parameter has a slight impact on non-dimensional secondary velocity component. The validity of the current investigation is authorized through comparing the existing outcomes with previous published literature.
The purpose of the study was to investigate the reality of middle school mathematics teachers' subject matter knowledge for teaching mathematical conjecture and justification. Data in the study were collected through interviewing nine Chinese and ten Korean middle school mathematics teachers. The teachers responded to the question that was designed in the form of a scenario that presents a teaching task related to a geometrical topic. The teachers' oral responses were audiotaped and transcribed, and their written notes were collected. The results of the study were compared to the analysis of American and Chinese elementary and secondary teachers' responses to the same task in Ball (1988) and Ma (1999). The findings of the study suggested that teachers' approaches to explaining and demonstrating a mathematical topic were significantly influenced by their knowledge of learners and knowledge of the curriculum they teach. One of the practical implications of the study is that teachers should recognize the advantages of learning the conceptual structure of a mathematical topic. It allows the teachers to have the flexibility to come up with meaningful mathematical approaches to teaching the topic, which are comprehensible to the learners whatever the grade levels they teach, rather than rule-based algorithms.
Mathematical modeling is an important part of mathematics education since it can be used or created to find mathematical models to understand real life various situations. Most of mathematical modeling tasks taught and learned currently in secondary school mathematics classes need simple mathematical modelling with one or two variables and produce fixed solutions to the real life problems. But many real life problems involve various and complex variables which can be used to get more proper solutions. Constructing mathematical models to get more appropriate solutions from the real problems having various and complex variables is not easy. In this paper the researcher suggested a model to fit mathematical models to get more appropriate solutions and showed three examples to apply the model in solving real life problems which can be treated in the secondary school mathematics classrooms.
This study explored secondary mathematics teachers' mathematical knowledge for teaching [MKT]; in particular, it focused on teachers' knowledge of functions. In order to measure teachers' MKT, we developed items according to Ball, Thames & Phelps (2008)'s domains and conducted to 34 secondary mathematics teachers in 5 high schools in Seoul. The findings from the data analysis suggested as follows: a) overall, the teachers scored average 67.4 out of 100, 87.43 in Common Content Knowledge[CCK], and the average score of Specialized Content Knowledge [SCK] was the lowest; b) correlations among SCK, KCS, and KCT were statistically significant; and c) there was no sign of statistical significance between CCK and the rest.
In this study, we focused on the graphing calculator to support the activity-oriented mathematics instruction with considering the accessibility of technology. The purpose of this study was to investigate the direction of the education of mathematics teachers. For this, we gave the teacher training for mathematics using graphing calculators for secondary mathematics teachers, and then examined the recognition for that of teachers. Teacher training of the graphing calculator was carried out three times in two years, we conducted a survey immediately at the time that has passed and after the 8 months or more after the training. As a result, we have obtained the suggestions of the advantages of using a graphing calculator in the learning mathematics, the difficulties of use of the graphing calculator in the classroom and the form of teacher training they want.

In this work we present a study undertaken with in-service mathematics teachers of primary and secondary school where we describe and analyze the didactical competences needed to implement an innovative design in geometry applying Van Hiele's models. The relationship between such competences and an ideal teacher profile is also studied. Teachers' epistemology is established in terms of didactical competences and we can see that this epistemology is an element that helps us understand the difficulties that teachers face in practice when implementing an innovative curriculum, in this case, geometry based on the Van Hiele theory.
Competent mathematics teachers need to implement the responsive teaching strategy to use student thinking to make instructional decisions. However, the responsive teaching strategy is difficult to implement, and limited research has been conducted in traditional classroom settings. Therefore, we need a better understanding of responsive teaching practices to support mathematics teachers adopting and implementing them in their classrooms. Responsive teaching strategy is connected with teachers' noticing practice because mathematics teachers' ability to notice classroom events and student thinking is connected with their interaction with students. In this regard, this review introduced and examined a study of the relationship between mathematics teachers' noticing and responsive teaching: In the context of teaching for all students' mathematical thinking conducted by Kim et al. (2017).
Recent international reform movements call for attention on modeling in mathematics classrooms. However, definitions and enactment principles are unclear in policy documents. In this case study, we investigated United States high-school mathematics teachers' experiences in a professional development program focused on modeling and its enactment in schools. Our findings share teachers' experiences around their discovery of different conceptualizations, appreciations, and conflicts as they envisioned incorporating modeling into classrooms. These experiences show how professional development can be designed to engage teachers with forms of modeling, and that those experiences can inspire them to consider modeling as an imperative feature of a mathematics program.
