It is necessary to obtain information about the productivity of the human-influenced forest and to understand the consumption of biomass resources in secondary forest in order to examine the resource flux by human activity in rural landscape. Thus the aims of this study were to elucidate the biomass and their use of secondary Pinus densiflora forests and to discuss sustainable utilization of secondary forests in rural landscape system. This study was carried out in Yanghwa-ri, Kongjugun, Chungcheongnam-do, central Korea. The changes of growth rate and aboveground biomass of a pine forest for 2 years were analyzed to understand forest management regimes in rural pine forests. Through allometric equations deduced from 25 sample trees, biomass was estimated. The biomass increase of pine forest was approximately 16.36 t/ha/yr in the unexploited stand and 12.24 t/ha/yr in the exploited stand. These were nearly equal to those of natural pine forests in central Korea. This result proved that human-influenced pine forest in rural landscape as well as the natural one has high potentiality to provide forest products. Making graveyard in forest-land was the important disturbance and land-use which currently occurring in rural landscape in the study area. Finally, we presented some forest management for stutainable and positive uses of secondary forests as one of the local energy resources in terms of the holistic landscape-ecological view.
In this research, an experimental study is performed to investigate the effects of system operating variables on the cooling and heating characteristics of heat pump system using geothermal heat source and carbon dioxide as a refrigerant. System variables analyzed include compressor frequency, electronic expansion valve opening, refrigerant charge, secondary fluid temperature and flow rate. Results show that optimum refrigerant charge and electronic expansion valve opening position exist at the maximum point of COP curve, and both cooling and heating capacity increase but COPs decrease with the increase of compressor frequency. The change of a secondary fluid temperature leads to variation of overheat area and enthalpy difference in the evaporator and gas cooler. which again results in considerable variations of cooling and heating capacity and COP. In the case of effects of secondary water fluid flow rate, both cooling capacity and COP increase with the increase of secondary flow in evaporator or gas cooler, whereas heating capacity and COP decrease with the increase of flow rate in gas cooler.

The performance of large-scale cognitive radio (CR) networks with secondary users sustained by opportunistically harvesting radio-frequency (RF) energy from nearby primary transmissions is investigated. Using an advanced RF energy harvester, a secondary user is assumed to be able to collect ambient primary RF energy as long as it lies inside the harvesting zone of an active primary transmitter (PT). A variable power (VP) transmission mode is proposed, and an energy-based opportunistic spectrum access (OSA) strategy is considered, under which a secondary transmitter (ST) is allowed to transmit only if its harvested energy is larger than a predefined transmission threshold and it is outside the guard zones of all active PTs. The transmission probability of the STs is derived. The outage probabilities and the throughputs of the primary and the secondary networks, respectively, are characterized. Compared with prior work, the throughput can be increased by as much as 29%. The energy-based OSA strategy can be generally applied to a non-CR setup, where distributed power beacons (PBs) are deployed to power coexisting wireless signal transmitters (WSTs) in a wireless powered sensor network.
Recently, the use of large-capacity secondary batteries for electric vehicles is rapidly increasing, and accordingly, the demand for technologies and equipment for battery reliability evaluation is increasing significantly. The existing short circuit test equipment for evaluating the stability of the existing secondary battery consists of relays, MCs, and switches, so when a large current is energized during a short circuit, contact fusion failures occur frequently, resulting in high equipment maintenance and repair costs. There was a disadvantage that repeated testing was impossible. In this paper, we developed an electronic short circuit test device that realizes stable switching operation when a large-capacity power semiconductor switch is energized with a large current, and applied smart ICT technology to this electronic short circuit stability test system to achieve high speed and high precision through communication with the master. It is expected that the inspection history management system based on data measurement, database format and user interface will be utilized as essential inspection process equipment.
This study is applied to common induction motor, and vector control is realized by using an indirect type of induction motor which has a simple composition. In this study extended Kalman filter is used from control theoretical viewpoint, and primary resistance and secondary resistance which change according to the temperature of motor are simultaneously estimated. This paper aims to research an indirect vector control in which the secondary resistance obtained from this estimation is consistent with secondary flux. This estimation is made by on-line estimation, but on-line estimation is difficult because extended Kalman filter takes long time in computation time. So off-line estimation was made on the assumption that the variation of temperature in motor is slow temporally.
A semiconductor switch-based fast hi-polar high voltage pulse generator is proposed in this paper The proposed pulse system is made of a thyristor based-rectifier, DC link capacitor, a push-pull resonant inverter, a high voltage transformer. secondary capacitor, a high voltage IGBT & diode stacks, and a variable capacitor. The proposed system makes hi-polar high voltage sinusoidal waveform using resonance between leakage inductance of the transformer and secondary capacitor and transfers energy to output load at maximum of the secondary capacitor voltage. Compared to previous hi-polar high voltage pulse power supply using nonlinear transmission line, the proposed pulse power system using only semiconductor switches has simple structure and gives high efficiency
This study proves that the quoted legal text functions as the index which represents the contents of the text because of the characteristics of legal information, the automatic indexing in the secondary legal full-text databases can be possible without the assitance of the experts. In case of the establishment, amendment or repealing of law, change of words of index can be possible through revising the legal text quoted in the secondary legal full-text databases. Even when we dont input the full-text about retrospective documents, automatic indexing is also possible, and the establihment and the practice of expert knowledge and integrated databases are possible in case of the retrospective documents. This study indicates that it is necessary to have characteristic information the information experts recognize - that is to say, experimental and inherent knowledge only human being can have - built-in into the system rather than to approach the information system by the linguistic, statistic or structuralistic way, and it can be more essential and intelligent information system.
The objective of the present study is to analyze the transient flow through theejector system with the help of a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method. An attempt is made to investigate the interesting and conflicting phenomenon of the infinite entrainment into the primary stream without an infinite mass supply from the secondary chamber. The results obtained show that the one and only condition in which an infinite mass entrainment can be possible in such types of ejectors is the generation of a re-circulation zone near the primary nozzle exit. The flow in the secondary chamber attains a state of dynamic equilibrium of pressures at the onset of the recirculation zone. A steady flow in the ejector system is valid only after this point.
Pipe wall-thinning by flow-accelerated corrosion (FAC) is a significant and costly damage of secondary system piping in nuclear power plants (NPPs). All NPPs have their management programs to ensure pipe integrity from wall-thinning. This study analyzed the pipe wall-thinning caused by changing the amine, which is used for adjusting the water chemistry in the secondary system of NPPs. The pH change was analyzed according to the addition of amine. Then, the wear rate calculated in two different amines was compared at the steam cycle in NPPs. As a result, increasing the pH at operating temperature (Hot pH) can reduce the rate of FAC damage significantly. Wall-thinning is affected by amine characteristics depending on temperature and quality of water.
This study aims to indicate fundamental problems and also to supply basic data for the reasonable distribution of the educational facilities in an effort to build better educational environments by examining and analyzing their changing process in primary and secondary schools in accordance with the changes in school year system in the period between 1900 to 1993. The following conclusion can be drawn : a. Separation of Middle and high schools due to the change of the school year system in 1951 into 6 - 3 - 3 - 4, has had great influence upon the arrangement of the educational facilities. b. Educational facilities in primary and secondary school are expanding, but they do not meet the criterion on an appropriate scale. Especially educational facilities of high schools need to be extended.
