Mitomycin C, chemically reactive antibiotics derived from Streptomyces caespitosus, was introduced to Chinese hamster, Cricetulus griseus, (2n=22) cells (22Emb. ♀5PSP ♂, to carry out an analysis of the chromosome aberration. It was found that regions 5 and 7 of chromosomes 1 and 2, and secondary constriction of chromosome X showed the most striking effect of Mitomycin C. The relationship between Mitomycin C and secondary contriction was discussed.

High-rise buildings have some problems by stack effect. And, the solutions on the problems should be determined by considering an overall building. But, ordinarily, the countermeasures on the problems are applied to local part of the building. Local countermeasures often can be possible to arouse the secondary problems accompanied by the stack-effect. In this study, the usefulness of local countermeasures are evaluated in terms of both the reduction effect on problems and the possible secondary problems with simulations. The simulation results show that the application of countermeasures on an overall building is very important and that local countermeasures can be used optionally according to building's conditions.
This paper presents a quasi-3-dimensional calculation method considering secondary flows in the impellers of diagonal flow blowers. A Quantitative estimation of the secondary flow effects is made by using secondary flow theories. In order to verify the validity of the adopted models, that is, span-wise mixing model and the tip clearance model, numerical simulations are performed for two different types of impellers of diagonal flow blowers which are designed differently. Numerical experiments are conducted for each of a constant tangential velocity type impeller, and a free vortex type impeller, both at two different flow coefficients. According to the simulation results, it was found that the present model considering span-wise mixing and tip clearance effect shows better agreements with the experimental data than those without these models in terms of the flow velocity and the angle distribution.
This paper presents a cell balancing method for a single switch flyback converter with a multi-winding transformer. The conventional method using a flyback converter with a multi-winding transformer is simple and easy to control, but the voltage of each secondary winding coil might be non-uniform because of the unequal effective turn-ratio. In particular, it is difficult to control the non-uniform effect using turn-ratios because secondary coil has a limited number of turns. The non-uniform secondary voltages disturb the cell balancing procedure and induce an unbalance in cell voltages. Individual cell control by adding a switch for each cell can reduce the undesirable effect. However, the circuit becomes bulky, resulting in additional loss. The proposed method here uses the conventional flyback converter with an adjustment made to the output filters of the cells, instead of the additional switch. The magnitude of voltage applied to a particular cell can be reduced or increased according to the adjusted filter and the selected switching frequency. An analysis of the conventional converter configuration and the filter design method reveals the possibility of adequate cell balancing control without any additional switch on the secondary side.
The effect of pipe breaks in the secondary side is investigated as a part of the fuel assembly qualification program. Using the detailed dynamic analysis of a reactor core, peak responses for the motions induced from pipe breaks are obtained for a detailed core model. The secondary side pipe breaks such as main steam line and economizer feedwater line braksare considered because leak-before-break methodology has provided a technical basis for the elimination of double ended guillotine breaks of all high energy piping systems with a diameter of 10 inches or over in the primary side from the design basis. The dynamic responses such as fuel assembly shear force, bending moment, axial force and displacement, and spacer grid impact loads are carefully investigated. Also, the stress analysis is performed and the effect of the secondary side pipe breaks on the fuel assembly structural integrity under the faulted condition is addressed.
Effect of secondary air injection (SAI) on hydrocarbon reduction has been investigated in a single cylinder Sl engine operating at cold-steady/cold-start conditions. The hydrocarbon emission and exhaust gas temperature with and without catalytic converter were compared with continuous and synchronized SAIs, which injected secondary air intermittently into exhaust port. Effects of SAI location, SAI pressure, SAI timing, and location of catalytic converter have been investigated and the results are compared for both SAls with base condition. At cold-steady condition, the rate of HC reduction increased as the location of SAI was closer to the exhaust valve for both synchronized and continuous SAls. The emission of HC decreased with increasing exhaust-A/F when it was rich, and was relatively insensitive when it was lean. The timing of SAI in synchronized SAI had significant effect on HC reduction and exhaust gas temperature and the synchronized SAI was found to be more effective in HC reduction and exhaust gas temperature compared to the continuous SAI . At cold-start condition, when the catalytic converter was located 20 cm downstream from the exhaust port exit, the catalytic converter warm-up period for both SAls decreased by about 50%, and the accumulated hydrocarbon emission during the first 120 s decreased about by 56% and 22% with the synchronized and continuous SAIs, respectively, compared to that of the base condition.
The present study proposes modified temperature-dependent non-Newtonian viscosity model and investigates flow characters and heat transfer enhancement of the viscoelastic non-Newtonian fluid in a 2:1 rectangular duct. The proposed modified temperature dependent viscosity model has non-zero value near the high temperature and high shear rate region while on the existing viscosity models have zero value. Two versions of thermal boundary conditions involving difference combination of heated walls and adiabatic walls are analyzed in this study. The combined effect of temperature dependent viscosity, buoyancy, and secondary flow caused by second normal stress difference are ail considered. The Reiner-Rivlin model is adopted as a viscoelastic fluid model to simulate the secondary flow caused by second normal stress difference. Calculated Nusselt numbers by the modified temperature-dependent viscosity model gives under prediction than the existing temperature-dependent viscosity model in the regions of thermally developed with same secondary normal stress difference coefficients with experimental results in the regions of thermally developed. The heat transfer enhancement of the viscoelastic fluid in a 2:1 rectangular duct is highly dependent on the secondary flow caused by the magnitude of second normal stress difference.

This study aims to investigate the effect of design thinking-based STEAM program for primary and secondary students. The design thinking-based STEAM program dealt with advanced scientific technology issues and it consisted of 8 topics. A questionnaire was developed to explore the change of Science concept awareness, Interest, Self-efficacy, Career consciousness of students through the program. The questionnaire consisted of following 4 areas, such as 'Science concept awareness', 'Interest', 'Career consciousness' and 'Self efficacy'. Pre-post test was conducted to 75 primary and secondary students. As a result of analyzing post-test compared to pre-test, 'Science concept awareness', 'Career consciousness' and 'Self efficacy' of students were improved. And the 'Interest' wasn't changed significantly. Through this research, it can be suggested that the design thinking-based STEAM program can be useful at school education to improve the Science concept awareness, Career consciousness and Self-efficacy of primary and secondary students. It is also proposed that further research of the various areas of interest and other affective variables will be needed.

Beam-column joints (BCJs) are recognized among the most crucial zones in reinforced concrete structures, as they are the critical elements subjected to a complex state of forces during a severe earthquake. Under such conditions, BCJs exhibit behaviors with impacts that extend to the whole structure and significantly influence its ductility and capability of dissipating energy. The focus of this paper is to investigate the effect of undamaged transverse beam (secondary beams) on the ductility of concrete BCJs reinforced with conventional steel and shape memory alloys bars using pushover analysis at tip of beam under different axial load levels at the column using a nonlinear finite element model in ABAQUS environment. A numerical model of a BCJ was constructed and the analysis outcomes were verified by comparing them to those obtained from previous experiments found in the literature. The comparison evidenced the capability of the calibrated model to predict the load capacity response of the joint. Results proved the ability of undamaged secondary beams to provide a noticeable improvement to the ductility of reinforced concrete joints, with a very negligible loss in load capacity. However, the effect of secondary beams can become less significant if the beams are damaged due to seismic effects. In addition, the axial load was found to significantly enhance the performance of BCJs, where the increase in axial load magnified the capacity of the joint. However, higher values of axial load resulted in greater initial stiffness of the BCJ.
This paper presents a characteristics of linear induction motor considering airgap variation for railway transit in order to achieve high performance of the vehicle. The operating principle of a LIM(Linear induction motor) is identical to a rotary induction motor. Space-time variant magnetic fields are generated by the primary part across the airgap and induce the electro-motive force(EMF) in the secondary part, a conducting sheet. This EMF generates the eddy currents, which interact with the airgap flux and so produce the thrust force known as Loren's force. Even though the operating principal is exactly same as a rotary motor, the linear motor has a finite length of the primary or secondary parts and it causes static and dynamic end-effect which is the discontinuous airgap flux phenomenon. This end-effect causes the deterioration of the system performance, especially in high-speed operation. Another problem is that construction tolerance restricts the minimum airgap in order to prevent a collision between the primary part and the secondary reaction plate. More over, as the airgap length is getting smaller, the attraction force between the primary part and secondary parts is getting larger dramatically and the attraction force would be another friction against propulsion. Therefore, it is necessary to figure out the characteristics of linear induction motor considering airgap variation in order to achieve high performance of the vehicle. The dynamic model of LIM taking into account end-effects is derived. Then the modified mechanical load equation considering the effect of the attraction and thrust force according to the airgap variation is analyzed. The simulation results are presented to show the effect of the LIM according to the airgap variation.
