The automotive industry is in constant pursuit of alternative materials and processes to address the ever changing needs of their customers and the environment. Applications of laser welding have increased steadily in recent years due to its benefits including high speed, high productivity, and high energy density of heat source. This paper investigated the relationship between laser welding parameters and penetration characteristics. The Welding power was fixed at 5kW and welding speeds were varied for the thickness of the workpiece material. Full penetration occurred in the energy per unit area of $21J/mm^2$. The hardness of the weld zone was different for each strength of the workpiece material, however the lowest hardness values were the same in the heat-affected zone.

In this paper, Hybrid Electric Vehicle is directly designed and manufactured for base study of HEV's system and Green Car. Foundation design consists of power train design and the frame design. The power train concept includes motor, engine, generator and battery. And the concept of the frame is the single-seat of this self-made HEV. A frame installed in hybrid system contains suspension, steering wheel, seat, accelerating pedal, brake pedal, clutch handle and various chassis parts with bearings. Electromagnetic clutch is equipped to transmit engine power to drive axle. The control algorism make using LabVIEW to control of an engine and a motor depending on drive condition. A parallel type hybrid system is manufactured to control operation of a motor and an engine depending on vehicle speed.
In this paper, 2 kinds of models about bike frame are simulated with static structural analysis. A bike frame with diamond type is compared with another model that Down tube is eliminated from original diamond frame. About both types of models, Property of a material and conditions of restriction & load are the same. This study shows reinforcement effects of a partial frame by adding down tube and impacts generated by applying a load at the frame such as weak points & high stress parts as well as expected deformation. The structural result of this study indicates that the equivalent stress or total deformation decreases by 57.1% or 36.4%, respectively. Also stress concentration sites are leg connecting parts, front/rear wheels fixed region and Max deformation is generated from Seat tube. In conclusion, A Down tube is highly efficient as reinforcement than frame without non down tube. Furthermore, The safety rises in case of reducing top tube thickness and increasing a reinforcement at leg connecting parts or concentration regions.

This paper is about the frame for an all terrain vehicle(ATV). An all terrain vehicle, also known as an ATV, has a seat designed to comfortably accommodate a rider over a wide variety of rugged terrain. This study developed and evaluated a buffer system to drive safely and reduce impact force on the load. The Frame includes a main frame portion which has one or more support frames. The buffer system with a double cushion system, one or more of the interaction of the shock absorber is constructed. The 3D modeling of ATV frame is built up with the software CATIA. According to the designing requirement, we analyzed the stress and the deformation of the frame.
In this paper a systematic numerical analysis is performed to obtain the bending moment resisting capacity of a top and seat angle connection, which is a type of partially restrained connection, for a CFT composite frame subjected to cyclic loading. This partially restrained composite CFT connections are fabricated using high strength steel connection bar. The three-dimensional nonlinear finite element models are constructed to investigate the rotational stiffness, bending moment capacity, and failure modes. A wide scope of additional structural behaviors explain the different influences of the top and seat angle connection's parameters, such as the different thickness of connection angles and the gage distances of the high strength steel bar. The moment-rotation angle relationships obtained from the finite element analysis are compared with those from Richard's theoretical equation.
The purpose of this study was to develop an electric riding machine for cycle fitting to control riding posture easily, to measure frame size quantitatively, and to overcome disadvantages of the traditional systems. The electric riding machine consisted of actuator, load controller, and display & control unit. The actuator unit by BLDC(BrushLess Direct Current) motor drives the saddle height up and down, the crank forward and backward, the handlebar up and down, and the handlebar forward and backward. The load controller unit controls loads by Eddy current controller with electromagnet and aluminum circular plate. The display & control unit consisted of frame size controller and display panel which shows top tube length(485~663mm), head tube length(85~243mm), seat tube length(481~671mm), and seat tube angle($62.7{\sim}76.4^{\circ}$). The range of frame size control for developed electric riding machine did not have difference compared to traditional commercial systems, but quantitative and precise control with 0.1 mm length and $0.1^{\circ}$ angle was possible through digital measurement. Unlike traditional commercial systems, frame size control was possible during riding through motor driven method, thus fitting duration decreased. It is necessary for further improvement to have feedback from users. It is believed that developed electric riding machine can help to develop domestic fitting system.

In this study, the analysis of radiation noise and chattering noise of vehicle seat recliner was conducted through testing and analysis. First, operating noise was measured by seat back frame and recliner, and chattering noise was confirmed. Next, the transient dynamic analysis was performed, and the result was mapped to the acoustic analysis. Finally, the test and analysis were compared and analyzed. The results are as follow. First, it was found that the peaks appeared in common in the range of 620~650Hz, 1,240~1,290 Hz, and 1,840~1,940 Hz. It was judged that the dynamic characteristics of the recliner system overlapped with the rotation component of the motor to cause amplification of noise and vibration. Next, as a result of imaging the radiation noise analysis, it was judged that the noise radiated in the forward and backward direction has a greater influence than the direction of the rotation axis when the ear position of the person is taken as a reference.

Recently Multidisciplinary Design Optimization Based on Independent Subspaces (MDOIS), an MDO (multidisciplinary design optimization) algorithm, has been proposed. In this research, an MDO problem is defined for design of a belt integrated seat considering crashworthiness, and MDOIS is applied to solve the problem. The crash model consists of an airbag, a belt integrated seat (BIS), an energy absorbing steering system, and a safety belt. It is found that the current design problem has two disciplines - structural nonlin- ear analysis and occupant analysis. The interdisciplinary relationship between the disciplines is identified and is addressed in the system analysis step in MDOIS. Interdisciplinary variables are belt load and stiffness of the seat, which are determined in system analysis step. The belt load is passed to the structural analysis subspace and stiffness of the seat back frame to the occupant analysis subspace. Determined design vari- ables in each subspace are passed to the system analysis step. In this way, the design process iterates until the convergence criterion is satisfied. As a result of the design, the weight of the BIS and Head Injury Crite- rion (HIC) of an occupant are reduced with specified constraints satisfied at the same time. Since the system analysis cannot be formulated in an explicit form in the current example, an optimization problem is formu - lated to solve the system analysis. The results from MDOIS are discussed.

Automotive suspension mat is installed at seat back frame. As the back part of passenger is aupported by suspension mat, it is prevented from the pressure concentration. The tired feeling at driving is minimized and the comfortable feeling is increased. In this study, vibration and fatigue are analyzed with plastic suspension mat modelled by 3 Dimension. By the analysis result, the natural frequency becomes 30 Hz with life of $10^6$ cycle and safety factor of 1.6055. Development time and evaluation cost can be cut down by utilizing this analytical technique.
In this paper a systematic numerical analysis is performed to obtain the hysteresis behavior of partially restrained top and seat angle connections subjected to cyclic loading. This connection includes superelastic shape memory alloy (SMA) angles and rods in order to secure the recentering capacities as well as proper energy dissipation effects of a CFT composite frame. The three-dimensional nonlinear finite element models are constructed to investigate the rotational stiffness, bending moment capacity and failure modes. A wide scope of additional structural behaviors explain the different influences of the connection's parameters, such as the various thickness of connection angles and the gage distance of steel and SMA rods.
