  • The behavior of declawed emus in a farm environment has not been described despite its importance in the husbandry and welfare of the emu. This study examined whether declawing of emus causes chronic pain resulting in permanent changes in the locomotor and general behavior of declawed yearling emus compared to emus not declawed. One group of 40 emus were declawed on the day of hatch by removing the distal phalangeal joint using a Lyon beak-trimming machine. Another group of 40 emus not declawed were the controls. Declawed emus one year of age were allocated to a paddock $250m{\times}125m$, while the control group was placed in an adjoining paddock of the same dimensions. One hour video records of individual emus from each treatment were made from 08:00 and 17:00 h over 2 periods; firstly when food and water was available and secondly during a period when food and water was not available after being withdrawn overnight. Inactive, ingestive, posture change, grooming, aggressive and locomotor behaviors were monitored from the videotape. There was no behavioral evidence to indicate loss of locomotor ability of declawed emus or to suggest declawed emus were suffering from severe chronic pain as indicated by declawed emus engaging in significantly more bouts (p<0.05) and time of searching (p<0.05). Declawed emus also engaged in less stereotype pacing (p<0.05) indicating they were under less stress and not as frustrated as control birds which engaged in more step pushing behavior (p<0.05). Modelling analysis showed that pecking behavior in birds was most closely related to foraging behavior. Birds subject to pecking attacks demonstrated higher levels of stereotype behavior presumably as a method to cope with stress. The behavioral evidence in this study would indicate that declawing does not compromise the locomotor ability of emus and has the benefit of improving the social structure in the groups by reducing stereotype behavior and aggression.

  • Humans have been shown to engage in multitasking behavior when searching for information on two or more topics or searching an information system at the same time. When processing multiple information tasks, priorities must be established as there are cognitive and physical limitations in processing multiple information tasks at once. The level of cognitive attention involved in multitasking behavior can vary depending on the complexity and importance of the information task. The objectives of this study are to understand: (a) the relationship between attention and information task prioritization behavior when people interact with information retrieval systems to find information for multiple tasks; (b) The effect of the degree of attention on information task prioritization behavior when people interact with an IR system to find information for multiple tasks. A review of the relevant literature shows that when people interact with information retrieval systems to find information for multiple tasks, their level of attention affects how they prioritize multiple information tasks. It should be noticed that people pay more attention to things they find interesting or important. Human-centered system design based on a conceptual understanding of multitasking is discussed.

  • The tunnel stability concerned with safety is very important in coal production process. The tunnel supports made by the GI beam has been used in domestic coal mine tunnels, and the GI beam was connected with another by the fish plate. It is necessary to analysis for the bending problems of the fish plate due to the rock pressure in some domestic mine tunnels. Therefore, this study proposes the application possibility of the optimization algorithms for the problem searching a load condition that bring about bending problem in tunnels. Consequently, in order to investigate the load conditions, desirability function as one of the optimization methods to study the bending behavior of tunnel supports was applied.

  • As in our $20^{th}$ century, the dramatic advance of the science and medical technologies has led the advance of living standards. Even though the elderly people are increasing, the underwear for elderly women is not so various. As getting older, women's body shape is changing. But the most of underwear in the market are designed for the twenties whose body shape and proportion is generally stable. Besides, as the color and material of underwear are designed for young women, the elderly women have a poor choice of the underwear. The results of this study are listed in the following: (a) analyzing the current status of the underwear market for elderly women (b) searching what elderly take inconvenience in underwear, and (c) wearing test for search what elderly take inconvenience in brassier.

  • The importance of users on library catalogs cannot be overemphasized. However little is verified about how well the users' needs have been met. The purpose of this research is to explore the characteristics and differences between user groups on library catalogs, and to draw implications for follow-up research. To the end, this research classified the users into four groups: elementary students, middle and high school students, college students, and the general public. Investigated are unique features and differences in searching behavior on library catalogs between the four groups. The data was collected through a survey with 544 users, and analyzed for both frequency test and Chi-square test. The major research results shows that there were statistically meaningful differences between the four groups. Also discussed are several suggestions for more in-depth research.

  • This paper proposes how the recurrent neural network controller for a Khepera mobile robot with an obstacle avoiding ability can be determined by co-adaptation of the evolution and learning, The proposed co-adaptation scheme consists of two folds: a population of NN controllers are evolved by the genetic algorithm so that the degree of obstacle avoidance might be reduced through the global searching and each NN controller is trained by CRBP learning so that the running behavior is adapted to its outer environment through the local searching. Experimental results shows that the NN controller coadapted by evolution and learning outperforms its non-learning equivalent evolved by only genetic algorithm in both the ability of obstacle avoidance and the convergence speed reaching to the required running behavior.

  • In an advanced computer and information network technologies, users are rapidly approaching environment in which information will be created, delivered, managed and stored, using vastly different methods to traditional pap r based systems. Information seeking behavior contains not only physical access, but also cognitive process in which reading, viewing, analyzing, reasoning etc. The most Important factor determining the usability of electronic documents is cognitive process. But, currently Navigation tools for using electronic documents depend on physical searching without considering cognitive process. Therefore, this study examined feasibility of using overal cognitive process in developing navigation tools. Six cognitive process style have been analyzed to find common skill of information seeking process. Also this study suggests skills that needs to introduce to functions of navigation tool, such as searching, filtering, visualization, traversal, content structure.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate information source of the choice of select dental medical institution and the relationship between socioeconomic characteristics and information searching pattern. This study was conducted for residents adults and teens living in Gwangju and rural communities of Jellanam-do province including. The study shows that 61.0 % of the information of selecting dental medical institutes had been introduced by the acquaintance and the rest of the information(37.0%) had been gotten from the internet. The purpose of this study is to develop an information search method that can influence the choice of medical consumers in dental clinics, and to establish a new dental clinic management strategy based on this research. Plus, we want to develop an information search source that can have a convergence effect on the selection of medical consumers in dental medical institutions.

  • With the aid of the increasing interests of Context-aware Augmented Reality Agent (AR Agent), various researches of AR Agent have been performed to explore the possibility of the agent as novel interface and the entity responding autonomously by user's input. However, in previous works, AR Agents are lack of specific method for using various contextual information. To revolve around those problems, we propose the Behavior Generation System for Context-aware AR Agent using layered architecture. Based on Belief-Desire-Intention (BDI) model and Hierarchical Task Network (HTN) searching, the sequence of agent behavior has been selected in behavior planning layer. Then, the agent evaluates appropriateness of behaviors using previous behavior and the type of input before activation. This behavior generation system can be applied for edutainment, game, and assistant agent, which need intuitive and effective behaviors to convey information. Through this research, we expect that the Context-aware AR Agent could support for not only information delivery, but also the capability of effective communication for user.
