  • Objective : The purpose of this technical research is to determine decline of episodic memory by normal aging focucing on object, spatial location, and temporal order memory. Methods : We allocated seventy-seven of healthy adults from twenty to eighty years old, and performed computer-based cognitive tasks which were consisted of the object, spatial location, and temporal order memory. We used OpenSesame(OpenSesame Inc, OR), put ten pictures people normally see in their daily life, and evaluated those aspects through asking the objects types, object spatial locations, and picture temporal orders from 10 sheets of the picture. Results : Object and spatial location memory were not affected by normal aging whereas, temporal order memory significantly decreased with normal aging. Specifically, temporal order memory for in their age of forty was significantly decreased compared with their age of twenty and object memory at their age of eighty was relatively high compared to spatial location and temporal order memory. We found out that temporal order memory worse fastest and object memory lasted longest. Conclusion : In this study, we confirmed characteristics of declines of episodic memory consisting of object, spatial location, and temporal order memory. Notably, we could specifically identify declines of spatial location and temporal order memory with normal aging previous studies investigated on a limited basis using conventional neuropsychological assessments. These findings would be helpful to screen impairment in episodic memory by normal aging and provide an evidence that cognitive intervention for healthy older adults needs to include spatial and temporal aspect of memory.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the accessibility of the Cakewalk TTS-1 for the screen reader users. An evaluation was performed by testing the accessibility of a editing virtual instrument that is a part of MIDI production based on the NCS(National Competency Standards) by using the TTS-1 and the Sense Reader. The results of this study are as follows. The TTS-1 itself can't provide enough accessibility for the screen users to do an above task. But the screen reader users can perform the above tasks if they use extended access functions like Sense Reader's Mouse Pointer function, Position Memory function and MIDI Control Signal function. Even if they use the extended access function, there are functions that is difficult to access. To solve this problem, several suggestions are proposed.

  • Rapid technological advancements and widespread adoption of smart phones in recent years provide students with new opportunities for getting knowledge and making researches in innovation century. As the penetration of smart phone devices in education increases, there is a large growth in the use of these devices especially among the youth. In spite of increasing importance of smart devices in education, the significant features of these technology devices for general learning have not been experientially addressed. In this study we are going to investigate the comparison of smart phone devices and find the necessary conditions for using mobile devices as an educational tool by a conjoint method. There will be five attributes: screen size, batter type, mobile OS, memory capacity and price. By surveying we got the results which showed us the respondents' desire of using specific smart phone; thus, we defined that screen size attribute is the most important device characteristic.

  • A data structure representing 3-D objects was designed for the personal computer. It is very simple to be used in the personal computers which have small memory and low speed. A homogeneous transformation for developing 3-D objects was derived. Each developing procedure consists of five transformations : one translational-three rotational-one translational. Developing a solid is a creative work. So the results of developing vary with the order of surfaces to be developed. One method to reduce the length of seam was considered. The programs used in this study were written in Pascal and Assembly and a modeller that generates 3-D primitives was included. This program is an interactive dual-screen system. While all the menus in Korean are displayed at the monochrome monitor, the development figures with projective views are drawn at the color monitor. The program has wide applications for plate works.

  • Objectives : Chronic alcohol consumption has been known to result in various neurocognitive deficits. Many neuropsychological studies revealed that the major disturbances occurred in the executive function, learning and short-term memory, visuospatial performance function, perceptuo-motor skills, and abstraction and problem solving abilities. This study was done to identify which cognitive areas might be mainly affected. Methods : The cognitive disturbance was evaluated using the Korean Version of the Mini Mental State Examination(MMSEK) and the 7 Minute Screen(7MS) in male inpatients with alcohol dependence(N=3 : as well as in age and education level matched healthy male controls(N=30). Four individual tests of the 7MS were consisted of the Benton Temporal Orientation Test, the Enhanced Cued Recall, the Clock Drawing and the Category Fluency. Results : 1) The average scores of four individual test of the 7MS for the alcoholics were $2.77{\pm}4.38$ for the Benton Temporal Orientation Test, $13.90{\pm}2.02$ for the Memory Test(the Cued Recall $6.77{\pm}1.94$, the Uncued Recall $7.10{\pm}2.45$), $5.84{\pm}1.86$ for the Clock Drawing, and $12.58{\pm}3.29$ for the Category Fluency. Except the Benton Temporal Orientation Test, there were statistically significant differences between test scores of alcoholics and those of controls(p<0.01). 2) The alcoholics who had MMSE-K score <24 were 9.68%. The average(${\pm}S.D.$) score of the MMSE-K for the patient group($27.23{\pm}2.62$) was significantly(p<0.001) lower than that of the healthy controls($29.20{\pm}1.24$). There were no statistically significant differences between four individual test scores of the 7MS of alcoholics with the MMSE-K score <24(N=3) and those of alcoholics with the MMSE-K score ${\geq}24$(N=28). 3) Four individual test scores of the 7MS seemed to have statistically significant association with such variables as MMSE-K, duration of alcohol drinking, blood magnesium concentration, liver function and thyroid function. Conclusion : Mild deficits of cognitive areas such as orientation, memory, visuospatial abilities and verbal fluency could be found in alcohol dependence.

  • Imaging studies using MRI, PET, and/or MEG have been primary evaluation methods to quantitatively assess cognitive function. Recent advances in computational technology and information technology may allow a novel evaluation methodology to quantitate cognitive function more cost-effectively. In this study, we developed a software package composed of a series of tests to evaluate cognitive ability combined with a user-friendly touch screen input device. This cognitive assessment tool can quantitate concentration, numeric memory, associative memory, topological memory, visual and muscular reaction, and acoustic reaction over a relatively short testing time. We performed an empirical study on eighty normal subjects aged 20 and 59 years old using the developed evaluation methods. Age-related cognitive deterioration after 40 years old was confirmed. There was no difference in cognitive ability between male and female in the same age group. This study demonstrates the feasibility of a simple but effective evaluation software tool to quantitatively assess cognitive ability. This methodology may provide improved accessibility and reduced costs to perform cognitive function studies to compare between various subject groups.

  • The recent developments of audio/video technology in the ubiquitous media have resulted in a variety of formal feature such as screen sizes for media and the new viewing environment can alter television viewers' experience of mediated communication. So the concern about formal feature of media itself is increasing in the recent media effects studies. From this point of view, this study is conducted to test the effect of the different monitor size of DMB Phone(2'1"), PMP(4'3") and PC monitor(19') on the viewers' memory and emotion of content by experimental research. The results showed that the effect by monitor size on the view's memory and emotion is significant. And watching moving image on a bigger monitor resulted in better memory of visual message elements contained in the content and more favorable emotion of the content.

  • It is required for multi-users to share massive mapping data effectively that distributed data model in the Client-Server environment is developed for the replication consistency. The existing model is not effective to the long transaction just like a mapping system, since it does not account lot consistency between GUI screen and database replications even though it emphasizes on the replication consistency. The performance of concurrency control is very important for those long transactions, especially the mapping systems. This model is to support consistency between GUI screen and replicas using display locks. It suggests consistency model improving process performance by modifying memory consistency model and optimistic concurrency control for mapping data's characteristics.
