This study was conducted to investigate the effects of 10-week dietary education on elementary students in an after-school program in Seoul. Participants were 20 1-2 grade students and 283-6 grade students, and the dietary program consisted of dietary education and activities focused on children's levels of understanding. The results were as follows: Total participant's food habit scores and nutrition knowledge significantly increased (p<0.05) after dietary education. Food habit and nutrition knowledge scores of lower grade participants (grade) increased desirably (p<0.05). Meanwhile higher grade participants' (grade) food habit scores also changed (p<0.05), but their nutrition knowledge scores were changed. Boy's food habit scores significantly changed (p<0.05), whereas girl's food habit scores did not change significantly. Further, female participants' nutrition knowledge scores did not changesignificantly after education. Participants' obesity knowledge scores significantly changed after the education (p<0.05), but their attitudes on obesity increased insignificantly. Lower grade participants' attitudes on obesity significantly and desirably changed (p<0.05), whereas higher grade participants' attitudes on obesity changed insignificantly. Girl's knowledge and attitudes on obesity significantly and desirably changed (p<0.05-0.01). This study revealed the correlation between food habit scores and attitudes on obesity (p<0.01), demonstrating that participants with high food habit scores have advisable attitudes on obesity. The result of this study shows that lower grade participants' food habit scores, nutrition knowledge, and attitudes on obesity changed desirably after dietary education. Therefore, this study promote the development of adequate nutrition education and materials focused on lower grade students and the need for systematic and continuous dietary education programs based on elementary school.

This study aimed to examine the changes in the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), and Roland Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ) scores before and after epidural steroid injection (ESI) in patients with lower back pain, and the correlation between the three scales in patients with reduced scores on these scales. Patients completed the NRS, ODI, and RMDQ before and after receiving ESI. A paired t-test was performed to compare the mean scores obtained before and after ESI. The correlations between the scores were estimated by calculating the difference between the baseline and follow-up scores. Of the 49 patients, 37 completed both questionnaire assessments. Among them, 26 patients (70%) presented a post-ESI decrease in scores obtained on all three scales. The NRS score decreased from 6.81±1.91 points at baseline to 3.66±2.22 points at follow-up (P<0.0001); similarly, the ODI score decreased from 41.65±14.76 to 30.38±16.16 points (P=0.0025); and the RMDQ score decreased from 11.11±5.68 to 7.64±5.74 points (P=0.011). Of the 37 patients who completed the two questionnaires, 26 had reduced NRS, ODI, and RMDQ scores. The intraclass correlation coefficients between the NRS and ODI, NRS and RMDQ, and ODI and RMDQ scores were 0.7943, 0.6615, and 0.7182, respectively. The concordance correlation coefficients between the NRS and ODI, NRS and RMDQ, and ODI and RMDQ scores were 0.6020, 0.4938, and 0.5202, respectively. Among the measurements, the correlation between the NRS and ODI scores was the highest, and a moderate correlation was found between the scores obtained using the other instruments.
The purpose of the study was to examine the relationships between children's emotional regulation, perceived self-competence and behavior problem. The subjects were 357 elementary school students in Busan. The questionnaires on children's emotional regulation, perceived self-competence and behavior problem were used. The results were as follows: (1) According to sex, there were significant differences in children's emotional regulation scores(venting and support pursuit), and according to birth order, there were significant differences in children's perceived self-competence scores and behavior problem scores. (2) There were significant correlations between children's emotional regulation scores and behavior problem scores, and also there were significant correlations between children's perceived self-competence scores and behavior problem scores. (3) Children's perceived self-competence and emotional regulation explained children's anxiety behavior, withdrawal behavior, aggressive behavior, distracted behavior and regressive behavior.
Objectives : This study was to analysis of pain using visual analogue scale questionnaire. Methods : Questionnaire were completed by 101 adult patients of department relation to simple pain in hospitals of Taegu from March 10, to April 10, 2000. The information was used to estimate multiple regression for the pain related factors association. Results : Visual analogue scale scores of mean was 4.29. work modification scores was 5.50. The scores of 1 month below was mild$(45.16\%)$, 6 months above was discomfort$(56.41\%)$. distressing$(72.73\%)$. and excruciating$(100.0\%)$ in association between present pain index and duration(p=0.002). Visual analogue scale scores was significantly associated with frequency of pain and present pain index. Conclusion : Date from this study support a statistically significant association between visual analogue scores scores and two factors found in other research to increase the relation with pain. This findings may have implications for targeting frequency of pain and present pain index.
This study explored an alternative activity for the assessment of young children's literacy in Korea; namely, the evaluation of children's ability to construct meaning independent of decoding skill. The subjects were 78 children 4 to 5 years of age in Seoul. Instruments were the researcher's revised form of the Story Construction from a Picture Book, TRSR (Teachers' Ratings of Students' Reading) designed by van Kraayenoord & Paris (1996), and the revised form of the WLAT (Written Language Awareness Test, Kim, 1995). The assessment scores and oral responses of the children were analyzed by Pearson's r, MANOVA and one-way ANOVA, using repeated measures. The findings showed that (1) the story construction total scores were significantly correlated with WALT scores and the subcategory scores were intercorrelated with each other. (2) The story construction total scores differed by age, and (3) the 2 phase scores were higher than the 1 phase scores.
Individuation and ego identity formation was studied in 297 university students in North Cholla Province. They completed the Korean Late Adolescent Individuation Questionnaire, and the revised version of the Objective Measure of Ego Identity Status. One-way ANOVA revealed differences in identity status as a function of individuation categories except in moratorium status. Individuated(??) students yielded the highest identity achievement scores and the lowest diffusion scores. Ambiguous students yielded the highest diffusion scores. Less individuated(??) students had the highest foreclosure scores while pseudo-autonomous students had the lowest foreclosure scores.
This study aims at investigating the linguistic and educational factors affecting TOEFL scores, focusing on three OECD countries, Korea, Japan, and Finland. The data comprise document analysis on curriculums, websites, and literature. The findings reveal that the number of Korean test-takers and their TOEFL scores gradually increased year by year. Finnish test-takers consistently gained greatly high scores, and Japanese examinees showed the lowest scores. The languages Korean, Japanese, and Finnish are all far distant from English and receive little support on historical grounds from the Indo-European family tree. In Finland, however, Swedish which belongs to Indo-European languages is still used as an official language with Finnish. Korea and Finland adopt English education from Year 3 in primary school, whereas English is not an official subject in primary school at present in Japan. Finnish students are taught a foreign language in addition to English from primary school. These seem to support the result of the high TOEFL scores of Finnish test-takers. This study concludes that social context which includes linguistic and educational environments are the main factors which affect TOEFL scores.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate how the psychological and mental tendencies manifested in the Sasang Constitution are reflected in an objective personality test, MMPI-2. Methods: The survey was conducted on 101 Korean medical students to investigate the relationship between the Sasang Constitution and MMPI-2. Results: Soeumin showed higher scores in the Hs, Pt, RC1 and RC3 than Taeumin and showed higher scores in the D, Si, RC2, R, MAC-R and INTR than Soyangin. Soeumin showed higher scores in the ANX, OBS, and HEA and showed lower scores in the Es and GM than other Constitutions. Soyangin showed the higher scores in the AGGR than Soeumin and showed the higher scores in the RC9 than other Constitutions. Soyangin showed the lower scores in the SOD and Taeumin showed the lower scores in the ASP than other Constitution (p<.05). Conclusions: MMPI-2 contains items that distinguish the characteristics of Soeumin, Soyangin, and Taeumin and it is therefore useful to employ it to obtain basic data for analyzing oriental psychopathology.
An attemption was made to estimate the effect of menopause on the mental health of climacteric women. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) were questioned to 278 premenopausal women and 302 postmenopausal women. Data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance in each variable of menopause, age, educational level, religion and partnership of husband, and two-way analysis of variance in two variables of menopause and one of other variables. The results were summarized as follows. 1. Menopause increased the scores of validity, psychopathic deviate, hypomania and paranoia scale, but conversely decreased the score of masculinity-femininity scale. 2. The older the climacteric women were, the lower scores of masculinity-femininity scale were observed. 3. The older the premenopausal women were, the higher scores of depression, hysteria, psychopathic deviate, psychasthenia and schizophrenia scale were observed, on the contrary, all scores of the postmenopausal women were decreased by the increment of their ages. 4. The higher the educational level of climacteric women were, the higher scores of correction and masculinity-femininity scale were observed, but the scores of hypochondriasis, hysteria, schizophrenia and social introversion scale were decreased by the increment of their educational level. 5. The scores of hypomania scale were higher in women of Buddhism than other religions. 6. The scores of validity, paranoia, psychasthenia, schizophrenia and social introversion scale were higher in widows than women with husband.
The purpose of this study was to develop criterion scores for the Korean version of the Maternal Behavior Q-set. The Maternal Behavior Q-set was developed as a means of describing maternal behavior at home. This Q-set consists of 90 items which are sorted to reflect the degree of similarity with mother's observed behavior. A mother's sensitives score is the correlation between this description of her behavior with the criterion scores of Maternal sensitivity. The criterion scores of Maternal sensitivity were developed by 10 judges who are cognizant in attachmet theory and maternal behavior in natural contexts. The correlation among each of the 10 judge's maternal sensitivity scores was grater than .72. The maternal sensitivity criterion scores developed for Korean mothers correlated highly with the criterion scores for North American mothers. And the interobservers' correlation of the sensitivity scores ranged between. .47∼.93. According to the items in the Maternal Behavior Q-set judged to be most like and most unlike the prototypically sensitive mothers, "When baby is distressed, mother is able to quickly and accurately identify the source" proved to be the most sensitive maternal behavior item. "Mother seldom speaks to the baby directly" was the least sensitive maternal behavior item.
