In previous study, visual representation competence taxonomy (VRC-T), which is composed of two dimensions, was developed for the purpose of promoting effective visual representation use and research in science education. In this study, elementary school students' visual representation competence for shadow phenomenon was investigated using VRC-T. In terms of visual representation competence, 'interpretation' was the highest score, followed by 'construction' and 'integration'. It also showed that students' visual representation competence was not high even after learning shadow-related units in the regular curriculum. On the other hand, text-based scientific knowledge was not correlated with all categories of visual representation competence. This indicates that there is a need to emphasize visual representation more in science class. Finally, hierarchical relationship among cognitive processes of VRC-T was explored according to ordering theory. If the tolerance level is somewhat loosened, a linear hierarchical relationship was found between the six cognitive processes. This suggests that VRC-T is an analytical framework that can be useful when designing assessment tools, tasks, and science class activities to enhance visual representation competence.

The discovery of the relationship between nutrients and deficiency diseases during the 100 years from the mid-1800s to the mid-1900s was a breakthrough that led to advances in the study of nutrition. The Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) were created as a quantitative standard for avoiding diseases caused by nutrient deficiency. In addition, a reductionism paradigm has become generally accepted among nutrition scholars in health and disease, which focused on the properties of individual nutrients, content in foods, cellular levels, and mechanisms of action. The reductionist paradigm worked very well for the prevention and treatment of malnutrition diseases. However, as the incidence of nutrient deficiencies decreased and that of chronic diseases increased, the nutrition goals have been changed to secure safe and adequate nutrient intake and to reduce chronic disease risks. Accordingly, Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs), a set of nutrient-based reference values, were designed to replace the RDA. The revised Korean DRIs were published for 40 nutrients in 2020. However, there is still room for improvement in the reference intake levels targeted at reducing the risk of chronic disease. The reductionist approach can no longer be practical because chronic diseases are related to the interactions between multi-components in the foods and multi-targets in the body. Therefore, a second innovative leap is needed following the nutrition development breakthrough made over 100 years ago. To this end, the nutrition paradigm must evolve from reductionism to a holism approach. Cutting-edge scientific technologies, such as metabolomics, transcriptomics, microbiomics, and bioinformatics, should also be acceptable in nutrition science based on the knowledge gained from basic nutrition studies.

Objectives: The reproductive health of female workers has been extensively investigated in South Korea and other countries worldwide. However, few studies have discussed the reproductive health of male workers. In this study, we reviewed the recent literature that reports on the effects of occupational exposure on the reproductive health of male workers and the health of their children. Methods: In May 2020 we used the PubMed search engine to search the literature over the last 10 years and chose case-control, cohort, and cross-sectional studies and reviews. We selected epidemiological studies that investigated the association between pre-pregnant occupational exposure and the reproductive health of male workers and the health of their children. We excluded case reports, non-epidemiological studies (animal experiments, cellular-level experiments, and similar articles), and studies that described postnatal occupational exposure. Results: We eventually selected 23 studies. The studies that included exclusively male workers reported that those employed in the agricultural sector or those exposed to pesticides showed lower blood levels of reproductive hormones and a high risk of lympho-hematopoietic system cancer in their children. Male workers exposed to complex organic solvents and organic compounds showed a high risk of poor semen quality, increased time to pregnancy, decreased blood levels of reproductive hormones, and a high risk of lympho-hematopoietic system cancer in their children. Male workers employed in occupations that involved significant social contact, or in the leather and livestock industries, and in occupations with high levels of exposure to lead and organic solvents showed a high risk of malignancies, including lympho-hematopoietic system cancer, neuroblastoma, and central nervous system tumors in their children. Studies that investigated both male and female workers reported that children of male smelters showed a high risk of premature birth, and children of male workers exposed to metals showed a high risk of hypospadias and cryptorchidism. Children of male welders and workers employed in the glass, ceramic, and tile industries showed a high risk of premature birth. Conclusion: The findings of this study will serve as basic data for further research on male workers' reproductive health and provide a scientific basis for the development of strategies to protect the reproductive health of males employed in high-risk occupations. Moreover, the results of this study may provide guidelines to improve the understanding of and knowledge on male workers' reproductive health.

The purpose of this study was to compare what meanings of earth science pre-service teachers and primary pre-service teachers about science books and reading through science disciplinary reading and how their thoughts on science education are reflected in the science disciplinary reading process. For the study, 24 third-year students majoring in earth science education and 25 second-year students majoring in primary education were selected as subjects for the study at a teacher training college located in the central part of Korea. As a result of the study, first, earth science pre-service teachers used disciplinary reading a lot to acquire knowledge of science content, but primary pre-service teachers used it for the purpose of using it in class, scientific interest, and curiosity solution. Second, earth science pre-service teachers and primary pre-service teachers showed differences in their thinking in using science related books for science education. While earth science pre-service teachers rarely described the use of science books in their classes, primary pre-service teachers actively described science classes. Third, from the perspective of science disciplinary reading, primary pre-service teachers were more actively emphasizing the meaning of disciplinary reading compared to earth science pre-service teachers. In light of the research results that the reading activity in science has a lot of effect, it is thought that a wide range of research on science disciplinary reading should be conducted as a teaching strategy in school field classes.
The purpose of this study was to explore the changes of right people for society on the period from liberation in 1945 to democracy in the late 1990s. Those periods classified into 'Transitional Era', Industrial Era and 'Democracy Era' based on historical events significantly influenced the changes of value system of Korean people or Korean society. In this study, not only main values and right people for society but also the way of changing value system in those periods were suggested by investigating factors of politics, economy and society. The results are as follows : Main values and right people for society on each period were as follows : In Transitional Era, main values were manners and social norms, and right people for this period were practical intellectuals pursuing the principle of action-oriented truth-and- knowledge-seeking. In Industrial Era, main values were sincerity, diligence, self-help and collaboration, and right people for this period were skilled man having occupational ability which was essential for economic development. In Democracy Era, main values were sincerity, participation, equality and coexistence, and right people for this period were scientific talented man who can make the survival of the country and prosperity in the crisis of the slowdown in economic growth A discussion of right people for each era, proposed that emphasis on the pragmatic and practical type of person in those days required, On the other hand, emphasized that were considered important of Community value.
We apply The classics of the Orient as a way of solving the problems calling for immediate solution in the changes of these times by reconstructing a wisdom from the Oriental literature which are complementary cooperation and great capacity on the basis of convenient scientific knowledge and thought of the Western. In this context, I would like to search the inflection and application about The classics of the Orient throughout the leaders all ages and countries who make use of "Sunzibingfa", the art of war by Sunzi. So, It is charged with a mission in translation of the oriental thoughts and values how to make a shining example its way in the current of time. In this aim to introduce the classics of the Orient. We can see the classics publication which is translated by many scholars. I recommended "Sunzibingfa" among the classics in this my thesis. Because I want to look into how to use of this book which has the thoughts by the leaders all ages and countries. Under this intention, I will introduce three leaders who are famous for using the book "Sunzibingfa" in "Sanguozhi(三國志)"-Records of Three Kingdoms, Caocao(曹操), Zhugeliang(諸葛亮) and Simayi(司馬懿) in ancient times and Luiz Felipe Scolari and Liddel hart, one is famous for using the book as the coach of the Republic of Portugal soccer team the 2006 World Cup Soccer and the other is a strategist of England in these modern days. We can see how to use this "Sunzibingfa" in their places and circumstances. Therefore We can have a chance how to use The classics of the Orient. This is my purpose to write this thesis.

The purpose of this study is to explore the teaching and learning experiences to improve the positive experiences about science (PES) of scientifically-gifted elementary school students. For this study, 36 students in grades 5~6 at a gifted science education institutes in Seoul were selected and conducted pre-test and post-test for 'Test for Indicators of Positive Experiences about Science (TIPES).' After the weekly science classes of the institutions were over, individual in-depth interviews were also conducted with some students to explore the teaching and learning experiences for improving their PES. The analysis of the results reveals that the science classes for scientifically-gifted students have been shown to improve PES of scientifically-gifted elementary school students. The teaching and learning experiences to improve their PES included eight teaching and learning experiences that appeared in general elementary school students of previous study such as 'practice-centered exploratory activities,' 'student-led class,' 'positive and professional feedback,' 'construction of knowledge through exploration,' 'class considering student's interest and aptitude,' 'use of materials related to real life,' 'smooth communication and collaboration in group activities,' and 'appropriate difficulty in learning content.' There were also six teaching and learning experiences that newly emerged from science-gifted students: 'Learning experience through the strategies for improving scientific creativity,' 'inquiry experience as a little scientist,' 'advanced or accelerated learning experience,' 'learning experience with excellent students,' 'experience helping other students,' and 'experience with high or low achievement'. Based on these results, the practical implications for improving the student's PES are suggested.

This study aimed to analyze the conception of an extra-solar planet perceived by university students. To conduct this, we developed an extra-solar planet education program and questionnaires which help to figure out changes between before and after the program, and then applied them to the targeted students. The results of the study are as follows. First, as to the conception of an extra-solar planet, participants understood it merely as a planet outside the solar system before they got training. However, they expanded it to the one revolving around a star that appears outside the solar system based on keywords after the training. Second, they gave brief responses regarding exploration strategies (e.g., observing the extra-solar planet by using the Doppler effect, dietary phenomenon, and gravitational lens) based on indirect experiences they encountered in the media. The responses indicated their lack of concept of the extra-solar planet exploration methods. However, their recognition of the extra-solar planet observation became concrete while students learned about the exploration of the extra-solar planet. Third, they were expanding the importance of the exoplanet observation simply beyond the discovery of extraterrestrial life to the creative process and research methods, including the solar system and the development of humanity. Fourth, they recognized that exoplanet education is necessary for curriculum as it will be able to bring about students' interest and curiosity as well as scientific knowledge if contents related to the extra-solar planet appear in the earth science curriculum.

In this study, we analyzed the types of rebuttals in the argument structure of learning contents in lesson plans constructed by Earth science preservice teachers, and then we explored examples of how they responded to resolving the rebuttal. As a result of analyzing preservice teachers' assignments, discussions, and interviews collected during a total of 20 hours of classes and group discussions for 5 weeks, all 5 types of rebuttals suggested by Verheij (2005) were identified. Through the data analysis, a total of 18 rebuttal cases derived, and these cases were classified into 3 types according to how preservice teachers solve the rebuttals in class. The conclusions and implications based on the results are as follows: First, this study provided empirical data that the thinking process of validating core elements of argumentation and processes of argumentation is actively taking place in preservice teachers' lesson planning using the argument structure, and expanded the scope of application of argumentation in science education research. Second, the argument structure of learning contents should be used to help teachers to come up with strategies to induce students' curiosity and devotion to learn science contents. Third, preservice teachers should have the opportunity to think about the nature of science, including the variability and uncertainty of scientific knowledge when they discover rebuttals and develop solutions to them. Based on these conclusions, implications and suggestions for science education and further research were suggested.
This study conducted a big data analysis on news to identify the agenda of media literacy, which has been socially discussed, and on which relevant policy directions will be proposed. To this end 1,336 articles from January 1, 2019 to September 30, 2020 were collected and a topic modeling analysis was conducted according to four periods. Five topics for each period were derived through the analysis, and implications based on the results are as follows. First, the government should implement a nation-level systematic approach to media literacy education according to life cycle stages to generate economic and cultural value. Second, local communities and schools should provide systematic support and education guidance activities to ensure a sustainable ecosystem for media literacy and prevent an educational gap and loss in learning. Third, efforts should be made in various aspects to minimize the side effects resulting from constantly providing media literacy education; furthermore a culture of desirable media application should be established. Finally, a research environment for scientific research on media literacy, active exchange of experience and value obtained in the field, and long-term accumulation of research results should be encouraged to develop a robust knowledge exchange culture.
