  • This paper discusses comparative analysis of the effects of surge protection devices (SPD) upon the power line communication channels. The quality of the data transmission channel is measured based on the data rate for the various channel parameters which include channel length and application method of the lightning protection device. The performance measurements are also carried out for various lengths of the communication channel. Experiment results show that specific combination of SPDs applied in the network causes severe degradation of the channel quality which is associated with the combination of grade levels and channel lengths.

  • Due to the complexity of underwater acoustic channel, signal estimation in underwater acoustic communication field is considerably affected from time-varying multipath fading channels. On this reason, the original signals should have many long training signals to estimate the channel and the purposed signals, and the bit rate of signals having information may have small rate. In order to avoid this loss of efficiency in underwater communication, this paper employed a blind channel identification method which don't use training signals. Simulations have predicted performance of the employed method in multipath environment and an aquatic plant experiment has verified the simulation results.

  • This paper reviewed the relationship between internal marketing(management support, education, pay system, internal communication, employment security) and food safety climate(prevention, superior attitude, work condition), and the moderating effect of employment type(permanent or temporary employees) in food service company. Based on the responses from 304 responses, the results of hierarchical multiple regression analysis showed that 4 factors(management support, education, internal communication, employment security) effect positively on food safety climate(prevention, superior attitude, work condition). The positive effect of internal communication on superior attitude and work condition appeared to be more positive in permanent employees than in temporary employees. And the results of t-test analysis showed that permanent employees perceived more positively all internal marketing factors(management support, education, pay system, internal communication, employment security) and food safety climate(precaution, superior attitude, work condition) than temporary employees.

  • In this study, potential Communication Satellite Application Services (CSASs) that are suitable for our communication environment have been identified through a detailed analysis of the CSASs offered in advanced countries. The existing demand forecast based on the defined CSAS category has been improved, and the transponder assignment policy has also been recommended. Managerial problems rather than technical ones for KOREASAT project have mainly been addressed and tackled in this study. For the successful implementation of the domestic communication satellite system, these two problems should be solved simultaneously. Therefore, future research that includes technical as well as managerial issues is expected to come out soon.

  • In order to optimize the configurations of Ka-band transponder subsystem, the tradeoff design has been performed iterately with emphasis on the improving performances of the payload system as well as effectiveness of Satellite Communication (SATCOM) system operation. It is necessary to allocate performance to the transponder equipments and to keep providing the main services. It begins with analyzing the requirements and allocating performance parameters by establishing budgets for electrical and mechanical characteristics. In this paper, introduction of SATCOM system and finally optimized Ka-band transponder configuration that is to be used for preliminary design will be mainly presented.

  • Most work on cooperative diversity has assumed that the cooperating group (source and partners) and the associated average channel conditions between terminals (source, partners, and destination) are predetermined. In practical situations, however, it is important to develop the efficient algorithms for assigning the terminals with good inter-user channels for cooperating groups. In this paper, we propose the partner assignment algorithm for cooperative diversity in mobile communication systems. The proposed partner assignment algorithm is investigated by using the path loss model for mobile communication systems. Numerical results show that the proposed partner assignment algorithm provides the comparable probability of cooperative transmission to the partner assignment algorithm using exhaustive search. The probability of cooperative transmission increases with the number of users, which gives potential benefits of practical implementation to user cooperation in mobile communication systems.

  • Frame synchronization is an critical factor for an effective operation of OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) based communication systems. In this paper, we present and analyze an efficient frame synchronization method based on m-sequence for OFDM-based mobile multimedia communication systems. The cyclic extension preceding OFDM frames is of decisive importance for this method. The m-sequence is added directly to cyclic extension signal in the time domain. By utilizing the autocorrelation characteristics of m-sequence, efficient frame synchronization can be achieved. And we also consider frequency offset estimation simultaneously. The proposed frame synchronization method can be applied to the OFDM-based mobile multimedia communication systems.

  • This paper presents a CPW-fed antenna with three slots. The proposed antenna can operate at 1.9~2.1 GHz and 2.9~3.3 GHz which are generated by the two rectangular slots, and 4.5~11.6 GHz which is generated by the main patch. The semicircle-slot is used as a band-notched filter to stop at a desired band (5.150~5.825 GHz) limited by IEEE 802.11a or HIPERLAN/2 applications. The currents concentrate around corresponding slots at the desired band. The proposed antenna is very small in size, with overall dimensions of $27{\times}32{\times}1\;mm^3$ etched onto an FR4-printed circuit board (PCB).

  • In this paper, we propose a block-based selective orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) decode-and-forward relaying scheme for 4G mobile communication systems. In the scheme, an OFDM symbol is divided into blocks and one relay is selected for each block. Theoretical outage performance and error performance are analyzed and evaluated. A unified outage expression is given for our scheme and the other two schemes and the lower bound of the bit error rate of the three schemes is also obtained. The effect of the coherence bandwidth on the proposed scheme is also investigated. Monte Carlo simulations are carried out to validate our analysis. The scheme can obtain a good tradeoff between complexity and performance and can be used in future 4G mobile communication systems.

  • Since the day the Internet became a common and reliable mechanism for communication and data transfer, security officers and enthusiasts rallied to enforce security standards on data transported over the globe. Whenever a user tries communicating with another recipient on the Internet, vital information is sent over different networks until the information is dropped, intercepted, or normally reaches the recipient. Critical information traversing networks is usually encrypted. In order to conceal the sender's identity, different implementations have proven successful - one of which is the invention of anonymous networks. This paper thoroughly investigates one of the most common and existing techniques used during data communication for avoiding traffic analysis as well as assuring data integrity - the onion router (TOR). The paper also scrupulously presents the benefits and drawbacks of TOR.
