  • This paper presents the results of four long-term experiments carried out to investigate the time-dependent behaviour of composite floor slabs with particular attention devoted to the development of non-uniform shrinkage through the slab thickness. This is produced by the presence of the steel deck which prevents moisture egress to occur from the underside of the slab. To observe the influence of different drying conditions on the development of shrinkage, the four 3.3 m long specimens consisted of two composite slabs cast on Stramit Condeck $HP^{(R)}$ steel deck and two reinforced concrete slabs, with the latter ones having both faces exposed for drying. During the long-term tests, the samples were maintained in a simply-supported configuration subjected to their own self-weight, creep and shrinkage for four months. Separate concrete samples were prepared and used to measure the development of shrinkage through the slab thickness over time for different drying conditions. A theoretical model was used to predict the time-dependent behaviour of the composite and reinforced concrete slabs. This approach was able to account for the occurrence of non-uniform shrinkage and comparisons between numerical results and experimental measurements showed good agreement. This work highlights the importance of considering the shrinkage gradient in predicting shrinkage deformations of composite slabs. Further comparisons with experimental results are required to properly validate the adequacy of the proposed approach for its use in routine design.

  • The subgrade reaction modulus of a large mat foundation was investigated by using a numerical analysis and a field case study. The emphasis was on quantifying the appropriate method for determining the subgrade reaction modulus for the design of a flexible mat foundation. A series of 3D non-linear FE analyses are conducted with special attention given to the subgrade reaction modulus under various conditions, such as the mat width, mat shape, mat thickness, and soil condition. It is shown that the distribution of the subgrade reaction modulus is non-uniform and that the modulus of subgrade reaction at both the corners and edges should be stiffer than that at the center. Based on the results obtained, a simple modification factor for the subgrade reaction modulus is proposed depending on the relative positions within the foundation in weathered soil and rocks.

  • This paper dealt with the LED optical illumination system design for the Masthead navigation light to replace halogen lamps. We made Fresnel lens satisfy luminous intensity distribution of "Convention on the International Regulation for Preventing Collisions at Sea(COLREG)". The optical system is designed by classifying three parts: light source, lens, and cut off plate. The source of light has been made to have the uniform horizontal and vertical light distribution by placing 6 LEDs at intervals of $54^{\circ}$, and as the cylindrical Fresnel lens, the lens has been designed to achieve the uniform horizontal and vertical light distribution in the range of plain light. Finally, the cover has been designed to block the light from the outside of plain light and ultimately met the standards for light distribution of navigation lights. In addition, the validity of design has been verified with manufacturing a trial product.

  • Functional requirements and design parameters were not clarified in the early design process. Design axiom shows some difficulty for larger system designs, such as the butterfly valve, which is basically carried out by an incremental and iterative process. A numerical analysis was carried out on fluid flows in a butterfly valve, by using ANSYS-FLOTRAN. Characteristics of the butterfly flows at different valve disk opening angles, with a uniform incoming velocity, were investigated. The entire analysis is decomposed to satisfy the independence axiom. This paper resolves the problems associated with the establishment of a systematic design process.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the wearing sensation and satisfaction of high school girls' winter uniform jackets according to the fabrics and the shapes. The fabrics were divided into four parts of stretch and non-stretch woven fabrics. The shapes were divided into two parts of tight and general types. The results were as followings: 1. In the aspect of the appearance evaluation for the uniform jackets, silhouette and length item showed significant differences in fabric and shape. The non-stretch woven fabric and tight type was more satisfying than the stretch fabric and general type because its silhouette and length were shorter and fitter than the stretch one and general type. The jackets of non-stretch woven fabric of tight type were evaluated as the thinnest in the silhouette and were evaluated as the shortest in the length. Conversely, the jackets of stretch woven fabric of general type were evaluated as the thickest and longest. 2. As for the wearing sensation of school uniform jacket, all test items showed significant differences in fabric and shape. The stretch fabric and general type was more satisfying than the non-stretch woven fabric and tight type because the jacket of stretch fabric and general type was felt more comfortable in activities, and wearing. Accordingly, the appearance evaluation for uniforms' jacket is in sharp contrast with that of wearing sensation.

  • The contact surfaces between mold and target should be in parallel for a proper imprinting process. However, large size of contacting area makes it difficult for both mating surfaces (mold and target planes) to be in all uniform contact with the expected precision level in terms of thickness and position. This is caused by the waviness of mold and target although it is very small relative to the area scale. The gripping force for both mold and target by the vacuum chuck is other major effect to interrupt the uniform contact, which must be avoided in imprinting mechanism. In this study, the cause of non-conformal contact mechanism between mold and target is investigated with the consideration of deformation due to the vacuum gripping for the size $470{\times}370\;mm^2$ LCD panel.

  • Economic investigation is one of the main issues regarding the design and production of small-scale structures. This paper concerns the creation, implementation, and economic aspects of the cross-section profile of small-scale structures regarding the dynamic response of the free and forced vibration behavior of spinning nanoscale beams based on big data analysis. According to the financial analysis, the three practical non-uniform functions of cross-sections are compared to the uniform beam in the same weight and the equal material used. The previous studies reported that the uniform beams are more stable and contain a better frequency response based on the mechanical analysis. Still, concerning the economic investigation, which means the considered structures should have equal length and have the same weight in the aspect of material used, the conclusion can be different from the mechanical aspect. Consequently, in the current paper, the dynamic response along with computer technology as well as the big data analysis of the free and forced vibration of the nanobeam regarding the economic shape of the cross-section is scrutinized.

  • Butyl rubber is used as an adhesive and it is mainly used in the form of sheets. The goal of this study is to design an extrusion die for the butyl rubber sheets using computer simulation. The extrusion die for the butylrubber sheets consists of manifold area and land area. In the manifold area, flows are spread from the entrance of the extrusion die to the land area. In the land area, flows become stable to the flow direction and uniform sheet can be obtained. Island area is being installed in the land area to get uniform flow. Four parameters, angle of manifold, length of manifold, length of land and island, were examined in the computer simulation. The optimum geometry of the extrusion die is derived which has a uniform flow in the width direction of the die.

  • In adaptive fuzzy control, fuzzy systems are used to approximate the unknown plant nonlinearities. However, because of the approximating error introduced into the feedback loop, it is difficult to guarantee the stability of the adaptive control algorithm. This paper presents a robust control algorithm against the reconstruction error and uniform boundedness of the all signals is estabilished in the Lyapunov sense.
