Deployment of Radioactive Waste Disposal Facility with the Introduction of Nuclear Power Plants (NPP) in Kenya

  • This paper describes basic plans for the development of a radioactive waste disposal facility with the introduction of Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) for Kenya. The specific objective of this study was to estimate the total projected waste volumes of low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste (LILW) expected to be generated from the Kenyan nuclear power programme. The facility is expected to accommodate LILW to be generated from operation and decommissioning of nuclear power plants for a period of 50 years. An on-site storage capacity of 700 $m^3$ at nuclear power plant sites and a final disposal repository facility of more than 7,000 $m^3$ capacity were derived by considering Korean nuclear power programme radioactive waste generation data, including Kori, Hanbit, and APR 1400 nuclear reactor data. The repository program is best suited to be introduced roughly 10 years after reactor operation. This study is important as an initial implementation of a national LILW disposal program for Kenya and other newcomer countries interested in nuclear power technology.

  • It is important thing that air quality affects human health. And It is more important thing that Indoor Air Quality more affects human health than Outdoor Air Quality. The cause of that is indoor air pollutants are more absorbed than outdoor air pollutants. By the way, in case of Multi-use facility for example office, department store, school etc., it has a feature that there are more people than any other buildings. therethrough, effects of Indoor Air Quality of Multi-use facility affect more people's health than Indoor Air Quality of any other buildings. However, in multi-use facility, specifically retail store, chemical treated materials are used for interior finishing, showcase finishing and product finishing because esthetic element is more added for detention of customer. Consequently, in place where demands brisk sales, possibility that indoor air is polluted by VOCs is high. This study considered retail store's Indoor Air Quality. as result of experiment, figure of department store's air pollution exceed about 5~20 times in guideline of multi-use facility's Indoor Air Quality in any kind of shop of department store (guideline : $500{\mu}g/m^3$).

  • This study was executed by means of "user participatory design method", as a part of the public facility remodelling project supervised by the Seoul Municipality. This study aimed to complement and improve the methodology through reviewing the whole process of participatory design implementation and examining closely whether the activities, design methods and tools that have been applied at each stage were helpful to reflect the users' demands successfully. Given all of those, it implies; first, it is very meaningful that public facility remodelling project by "user participatory design" leads the ordinary users to have direct opportunity to participate in the public business and to change their perception of the restroom environment in school. Second, it is necessary to integrate the roles of the facilitator and the architect from the beginning stage of the process, which makes it feasible to reflect the users' needs to the final stage. Third, it is required to modify the design tools that enable non-professional participants to understand their tasks and to perform them effectively at the stage of decision making.

지속가능한 학교시설을 위한 실내환경 계획 요소에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Planning of Indoor Environment Factors for Sustainable School Facility)

  • Global environment is getting deteriorated at an alarming rate. Eco-school could be one of the effective solutions to project our environment and a good sample of architecture to economize in total energies, resources and greenhouse gases. In case of our country, the study of eco-school planning is not sufficient compared with other countries, so this paper would be a good study on the indoor environment of the classroom by surveying their opinions and ideas from the group of users in school facility. The result of this study shows that the proper installation of building equipment and nature ventilation system is necessary to provide delightful environment for the students and to save the energy. To ensure that we have adequate saving and protection it is necessary to change the existing appraisal standard.

주거지내 초등학교의 활용을 위한 계획 방향 (Planning and Design Guidelines for the Utilization of Elementary Schools in Urban Housing Blocks)

  • The intent of this study is to investigate the current situations and planning implications of elementary schools in urban housing blocks, and to propose the planning and design guidelines for them. The premise of this research is that an elementary school should function as a communal facility, shared by its community, so called open-school. 32 schools in three new towns were selected as sample cases and they were closely surveyed in terms of their site planning issues in residential blocks, and three sample open-elementary schools were analyzed in a comparative manner for finding their roles and functional fulfillment as a communal facility in the neighborhoods. Based on the findings, several planning principles and design techniques or devices are suggested for the utilization of elementary schools by local residents, mainly making issues of location, relationship to other facilities and open spaces in residential blocks, access, apartment layout, school building and outdoor spaces, and open program.

  • This study is to investigate the possibility of legislation that is the foundation of school complexation project and the architectural planning for the target facility as stipulated by related law. Since 2000, many schools have been established and operated in the whole of Korea, mainly in Seoul. However, on the frontline, there is still a lot of difficulty in carrying out the project due to the legal possibility related to the school complexation and the lack of understanding about the facility for school complexation as stipulated by the law. The purpose of this study is to present the possibility of the school complexation project based on related laws and to clarify the classifications of school complexation facilities which are stipulated by the related law, and to propose the foundation for the future school complexation project. The contents of this study were investigated through the literature survey on the theoretical review and related laws of school complexation, and various laws related to school complexation were classified based on this, and the possibility of school complexification prescribed by each law was analyzed. In addition, by classifying facilities subject to school complexation prescribed by the Act and analyzing the detailed standards stipulated in relevant laws for each facility, we propose the facilities that can be combined with school facilities, and utilize the data of this study.

저온저장고의 뉴로-퍼지 제어시스템 개발 (Development of Neuro-Fuzzy System for Cold Storage Facility)

  • This study was conducted to develop precision control system fur cold storage facility that could offer safe storage environment for green grocery. For that reason of neuro-fuzzy control system with learning ability algorithm and single chip neuro-fuzzy micro controller was developed for cold storage facility. Dynamic characteristics and hunting of neuro-fuzzy control system were far superior to on-off and fuzzy control system. Dynamic characteristics of temperature were faster than on-off control system by 1,555 seconds(123% faster) and fuzzy control system by 460 seconds(36.4% faster). When system was arrived at steady state. hunting was ${\pm}$0.5$^{\circ}C$ in on-off control system, ${\pm}$0.4$^{\circ}C$ in fuzzy control system, and ${\pm}$0.3$^{\circ}C$ in neuro-fuzzy control system. Hunting of humidity and wind velocity was also controlled precisely by 70 to 72.5% and 1m/s For storage experiment with onion, characteristics of neuro-fuzzy control system were tested. Dynamic characteristics of neuro-fuzzy control system made cold storage facility conducted precooling ability and minimized hunting.

주세페 테라니의 산텔리아 유치원 계획에 관한 연구 - 근대 교육시설의 가변성 및 개방성을 중심으로 - (A Study on the Giuseppe Terragni's Sant'Elia Nursery School - Focused on the Flexibility and Openness in the Modern Educitional Facility -)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the 'Sant'Elia Nursery School' constructed in 1937 at Como, Italy. Giuseppe Terragni(1904-1943) is, as it well known, one of the representative architects in the period of Italian rationalism architecture. In particular, his 'Casa del Fascio(1928~1936)' is evaluated as a representative work of this period. The research is based on the original drawings and letters, mostly produced by G. Terragni himself. Through the analyze on the design process, the research tries to reveal Terragni's design method and strategy, especially in the educational facility project. There are at least four deferent phases in the Terragni's design process; in each phase, there are fundamental changes such as a structural grid system, relationships between skin and columns or spatial sequences. Establishment of a new guideline on the educational facility in 1925 is also an another important issue. There was a political need, during the period of Mussolini's regime, to find a model of educational facilities. So, this project reflects not only the Terragni's design process but also the good example of educational facility in the early Twenty Century in Europe.

초·중등학교시설의 노후도 평가 방법 (An Evaluation Method of Deterioration Level of Elementary, Middle, and High School)

  • 시설물의 유지관리란 시설의 구조적, 기능적, 미적성능을 보전하는 것이다. 이를 통하여 시설물을 이용하는 사람들의 일상적인 편의와 안전을 확보할 수 있도록 하여야 한다. 그러나 준공당시의 시설물은 시간이 지남에 따라 노후화되고 초기의 기능을 확보하는데 어려움을 갖게 된다. 현재 시 도교육청은 학교시설물의 유지관리를 비롯한 점검 및 관리를 형식적으로 수행하고 있어 재난발생위험에 적기대응이 곤란하고, 학교 시설에 대한 안전대책의 수립이 지연되는 등 관리가 부실한 실정이다. 또한 교육환경개선비가 배분기준과 달리 산정되는 등 비합리적으로 결정되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 수많은 초 중등학교 시설물에 적용할 수 있는 동일하고 단순한 정량적 지표와 방법을 개발하여 객관적으로 학교 시설물의 노후도를 판단할 수 있는 방안을 제안하고 사례 연구를 통하여 검증하였다.
