This paper starts by exploring the problems of public education under knowledge based society. It then analyzes the questionnaire about the function of school library media center as a culture space. The results show that school library media center should take a role as repertory appreciation center of various arts, recreation center, and interactive community.

This paper aims to suggest new strategies for operating school library digital resource room by analyzing the current states of 349 school library digital resource room and its educational effects. The project for school library digital resource room provided the foundations for the various informational and educational services : extended information materials, changes in library environment, collecting information through the web sites, providing authentic materials, reading instruction, library assisted instruction (LAI). The suggestions are as follows. 1) The national standards is required for the digital resources room in school libraries. 2) Reading and information literacy instruction should be institutionalized. 3) Library assisted instruction (LAI) should be included in school curriculum. 4) Professionally qualified teacher librarians are required for planning and managing the school library. 5) School library in-service program is needed for all members of the school community.

Culture-independent approaches, based on 16S rDNA sequences, are extensively used in modern microbial ecology. Sequencing of the clone library generated from environmental DNA has advantages over fingerprint-based methods, such as denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis, as it provides precise identification and quantification of the phylotypes present in samples. However, to date, no method exists for comparing multiple bacterial community structures using clone library sequences. In this study, an automated method to achieve this has been developed, by applying pair wise alignment, hierarchical clustering and principle component analysis. The method has been demonstrated to be successful in comparing samples from various environments. The program, named CommCluster, was written in JAVA, and is now freely available, at http://chunlab.snu.ac.kr/commcluster/.

Community colleges are key constituents of higher education in Korea, along with four-year universities. The number of community colleges in Korea also holds significance. However, the main focus of the Master Plan for Library Development decisively lies in university libraries, with little consideration to the poor condition of community college libraries. This study aims to identify problems of community college libraries by conducting a document research on their current standing and, based on that, to present six policy proposals for government support. They are a) to develop library collections based on the school specialty, b) to build theme-oriented libraries, c) to facilitate cooperation between community college libraries, d) to reinforce capacities for library service, e) to improve legal status of community college libraries and develop an evaluation index, f) and to estimate demand and evaluate service quality.

The study aims at providing enhanced policies of school library opening services. It analyzed various issues on primary school libraries in Gangnam-gu, Seoul which have provided opening services for the last 10years, from 2001 to 2011, in cooperation with the Gang-Nam Gu Council. In theoretical aspect, this study discussed legal grounds, types, strengths and weaknesses of school library opening policies. Furthermore, it conducted a survey and interviewed the primary school librarians and users to explore their understanding about school library opening. As a result, it presented alternative strategies of three aspects; human resource, administrative system and finance for improving school library opening services.

The values of a organization generate belief and activate participation of community members. Accordingly, it is necessary to find new core values of the school library in addition to access and assistance which are the library's traditional values. This study analyzed the central keywords in the contents of mission and vision appeared in the International School Library Standards and acquired core values being composed of 5 fields such as education, collaboration, access, cultural awareness and sensitivity, and democratic citizenship. As a result of analyses of missions and visions in America, Australia, UK, and Canada School Library Standards, it seems that life-long learning skills, physical access and social responsibility are common core values. America and UK School Library Standards which were revised recently are underlining technology skills, multiple literacies and integrated information literacy curriculum particularly. Ultimately, these core values will be utilized as the directions and basic materials for the establishment of missions and visions for the school library in Korea.

A status analysis and focus group interviews with librarians, school librarians and experts were conducted to find a new direction for revitalization of 19 public libraries affiliated to the Chungcheongnam-do Office of Education in the context of the advent of a new educational environment following the 4th industrial revolution. Through the research method, the knowledge experience edu library through the library community school was set as the vision of a public library belonging to the Chungnam Office of Education. The direction of public library service as an edu-library was divided into specialization as an educational library, life cycle customized service, knowledge experience-oriented service, and 4th industrial revolution intelligent information society service. Based on the traditional functions of the library, the space that the future public library should have was presented as an experiential learning space. In this study, a specialized direction for strengthening the educational function of libraries belonging to the Chungnam Office of Education was presented, which will contribute to finding ways to cooperate with schools and school libraries, and will provide a basis for preparing directions for libraries belonging to other regional offices of education.

This study has validated the relationship between the field practical training experience and its influence on the career decisions of the Korean female community college students majoring in library and information science. As a result of the study performed, the trainee factors for the field practical training were major related satisfaction (𝛽=.313, p<.01), advance preparation for practical training (𝛽=.235, p<.01), and attitude towards the practical training (𝛽=.195, p<.05) turned out to be the factors which have had a statistically positive (+) effect on the career decisions of the Korean female community college students majoring in library and information science. Furthermore, among the field training institution factors, the training content (𝛽=.268, p<.05) factor, and among the field training school factors, the training professor (𝛽=.185, p<.01) factor were confirmed to have a significant impact on the career decisions of the Korean female college students majoring in library and information science. This study could be used as the useful basic data for the career planning and job placement guidance for the Korean female community college students majoring in library and information science.

Prior to the concrete and practical use of closed schools, this study was designed to identify trends in the use of closed schools, and the possibility and direction of the library's use of closed schools based on the status of closed schools and use cases. As a result of the case analysis, the building of libraries using closed schools can be reborn as libraries with different characteristics from general public libraries, such as providing complex cultural spaces, eco-friendly spaces, and local community places. In addition, based on the results of the study, future direction of library closure is suggested as follows: Provide local economic contribution and local revitalization opportunities, life-friendly and friendly space for local residents, recycling space linked with elderly welfare, care service, urban to rural Immigrants, creation of added value and creation of local business using closed schools, environment-friendly space, recycling as a complex community center, recycled into a space that meets and complements local needs.

This qualitative case study focused on two types of livable, family-friendly communities and their activities. The landscaping, the community library, and the Dongbu Apartment Residents' Committee were examined in relationship to the everyday lives of the community's residents through observation and an in-depth interview. The experiences and thoughts of two representatives and four volunteers were described in detail. This study implies the importance of activity as well as a visible effort to improve quality of life. Further, it implies the necessity of a long-tenn perspective and commitment to developing a livable community base with strategies consistent with integrity and the values of everyday life. Above all, we researchers emphasize the most important factor of the livable community is the third sector; a public space based on everyday life located between a structurally separate work space and family space.
