Coordination of an Amino Alcohol Schiff Base Ligand Toward Cd(II)

  • A potentially tetradentate Schiff base ligand, 2-((2-((pyridin-2-ylmethylene)amino)ethyl)amino)ethan-1-ol (PMAE), and its cadmium(II) complex, [$Cd(PMAE)I_2$] (1), were prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, Raman, $^1H$ and $^{13}C$ NMR spectroscopies and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In the crystal structure of 1, the cadmium atom has a slightly distorted square-pyramidal geometry and a $CdN_3I_2$ environment in which the PMAE acts as an $N_3$-donor. In the crystal packing of the complex, the alcohol and amine groups of the coordinated ligands participate in hydrogen bonding with iodide ions and form $R^2{_2}(14)$ and $R^2{_2}(8)$ hydrogen bond motifs, respectively. In addition to the hydrogen bonds, the crystal network is stabilized by ${\pi}-{\pi}$ stacking interactions between pyridine rings. The thermodynamic stability of the isolated ligand and its cadmium complex along with their charge distribution patterns were studied by DFT and NBO analysis.

  • DMF 용매에서 산소 첨가된 네자리 Schiff base cobalt(III)의 균일 촉매에 의하여 2,6-di-tert-butylphenol의 산화 주생성물인 2,6-ditert-butylbenzoquinone (BQ)일 때에는 O$_2$/Co몰 결합비가 1:1인 superoxo cobalt(III) 착물 곧 [Co(III)(Schiff base)(L)]$O_2$ (Schiff base; SED, SOPD and o-BSDT, L; DMF and Py)들의 활성촉매에 의하여 생긴다. 또, 산화생성물인 3,3',5,5'-tetra-tert-butyldiphenoquinone (DPQ)은 $O_2$/Co의 몰비가 1:2인 $\mu$-peroxo cobalt(III) 착물인 [Co(III)(SND)(L)]$_2$O$_2$ (L; DMF 및 Py)의 활성촉매에 의하여 생성된다. 이들 균일 활성촉매인 superoxo 및 $\mu$-peroxo cobalt(III) 착물들의 확인은 DMF나 DMSO 용매에서는 어렵다. 그러나 pyridine 용매에서는 산소흡착에 의한 PVT 법과 0.1 M TEAP의 지지전해질과 유리질 탄소전극을 사용한 순환 전압전류법으로 1:1 oxygen adduct인 superoxo 착물들은 $O_2$-의 prewave가 없는 3단계 환원과정으로만 일어나는 것으로 확인할 수 있었다.

  • N,N'-oxalylbis(salicylaldehyde hydrazone), N,N'-malonylbis(salicylaldehyde hydrazone), 그리고 N,N'-succinylbis(salicylaldehyde hydrazone)과 Cd(II) 이온과의 착물형성에 따르는 안정도상수를 DMSO 용액에서 폴라로그래피법으로 측정하였다. 안정도상수의 크기는 OBSH < MBSH < SBSH의 순서로 증가하였으며, Cd(II) 이언은 이들 리간드와 매우 안정한 착물을 형성하였다. 안정도 상수를 여러 온도에서 측정하여 엔탈피 및 엔트로피 변화를 측정한 결과, 착물형성에 기여를 하고 있음을 알았다.

  • Co(II)착물들을 세자리 Schiff base-NOIPH, 네자리 Schiff base-$NOTDH_2$$TNBPH_4$ 로부터 합성하였으며, 이 착물들의 산화-환원 과정 mecanism을 지지 전해질로서 0.1 M TBAP를 포함한 DMF용액에서 작업전극으로 유리질 탄소전극을 사용하여 순환 전압-전류법과 펄스 차이 전압-전류법에 의해서 알아 보았다. [Co(II)$(NOIP)_2$]와 [Co(II)(NOTD)$(H_2O)_2$] 착물의 환원은 Co(III)/Co(II)의 반응이 비가역적으로 진행되고 Co(II)/Co(I)의 반응이 준가역적으로 진행되는 일전자의 2단계반응이 확산 지배적으로 일어났다. 반면에 [$Co(II)_2$(TNBP)] 착물의 환원반응은 $Co(II)_2$가 Co(II)/Co(I)로 진행되는 준가역적이며 일전자 일단계의 반응이 확산지배적으로 일어났다.

Synthesis and Crystal Structures of Copper(II) Complexes with Schiff Base Ligands: [Cu2(acpy-mdtc)2(HBA)(ClO4)]·H2O and [Cu2(acpy-phtsc)2(HBA)]·ClO4

  • Two new Cu(II) complexes, $[Cu_2(acpy-mdtc)_2(HBA)(ClO_4)]{\cdot}H_2O$ (1) (acpy-mdtc- = 2-acetylpyridine S-methyldithiocarbamate and $HBA^-$ = benzilic acid anion) and $[Cu_2(acpy-phtsc)_2(HBA)]{\cdot}ClO_4$ (2) (acpy-$phtsc^-$ = 2-acetylpyridine 4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazate) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The X-ray analysis reveals that the structures of 1 and 2 are dinuclear copper(II) complexes bridged by two thiolate sulfur atoms of Schiff base ligand and bidentate bridging $HBA^-$ anion. For 1, each of the two copper atoms has different coordination environments. Cu1 adopts a five-coordinate square-pyramidal with a $N_2OS_2$ donor, while Cu2 exhibits a distorted octahedral geometry in a $N_2O_2S_2$ manner. For 2, two Cu(II) ions all have a five-coordinate square-pyramidal with a $N_2OS_2$ donor. In each complex, the Schiff base ligand is coordinated to copper ions as a tridentate thiol mode.

Synthesis and Spectral Characterization of Antifungal Sensitive Schiff Base Transition Metal Complexes

  • New $N_2O_2$ donor type Schiff base has been designed and synthesized by condensing acetoacetanilido-4-aminoantipyrine with 2-aminobenzoic acid in ethanol. Solid metal complexes of the Schiff base with Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Mn(II), Zn(II), VO(IV), Hg(II) and Cd(II) metal ions were synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, magnetic susceptibility, molar conduction, fast atom bombardment (FAB) mass, IR, UV-Vis, and $^1H$ NMR spectral studies. The data show that the complexes have the composition of ML type. The UV-Vis. and magnetic susceptibility data of the complexes suggest a square-planar geometry around the central metal ion except VO(IV) complex which has square-pyramidal geometry. The in vitro antifungal activities of the compounds were tested against fungi such as Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Rhizopus stolonifer, Candida albicans, Rhizoctonia bataicola and Trichoderma harizanum. All the metal complexes showed stronger antifungal activities than the free ligand. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of the metal complexes were found in the range of $10{\sim}31{\mu}g/ml$.

Synthesis, Characterization and Spectrophotometric Studies of Seven Novel Antibacterial Hydrophilic Iron(II) Schiff Base Amino Acid Complexes

  • A series of new Iron(II) Schiff base amino acid complexes derived from the condensation of amino acid and sodium 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde-5-sulfonate have been synthesized. The complexes were characterized by elemental, electronic, IR spectral analyses and conductance measurements. The stability and solubility of the prepared complexes were determined. Two spectral methods used to determine the stoichiometry of the prepared complexes which exhibited divalent tridentate coordination and formed chelates of octahedral structures. The antibacterial activity of the prepared complexes has been tested against Bacillus cereus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Micrococcus bacteria. The effect of HCl on investigated complexes studied spectrophotometrically.

Experimental and Theoretical Study on Corrosion Inhibition of Mild Steel in Oilfield Formation Water Using Some Schiff Base Metal Complexes

  • First, in this study, the inhibition efficiencies of metal complexes with Cu(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) of STSC ligand for corrosion control of mild steel in oilfield formation water were investigated. The IEs for a mixture of 500 ppm STSC and 5 ppm metal ion ($Cu^{+2}$, $Ni^{+2}$, $Zn^{+2}$) were found to be 88.77, 87.96 and 85.13 %, respectively. The results were obtained from the electrochemical techniques such as open circuit potential, linear and tafel polarization methods. The polarization studies have showed that all used Schiff base metal complexes are anodic inhibitors. The protective film has been analyzed by FTIR technique. Also, to detect the presence of the iron-inhibitor complex, UV-Visible spectral analysis technique was used. The inhibitive effect was attributed to the formation of insoluble complex adsorbed on the mild steel surface and the adsorption process follows Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The surface morphology has been analyzed by SEM. Secondly, the computational studies of the ligand and its metal complexes were performed using DFT (B3LYP) method with the $6-311G^{{\ast}{\ast}}$ basis set. Finally, it is found that the experimental results were closely related to theoretical ones.

여러자리 질소-산소계 시프염기 리간드와 전이금속착물의 합성 및 전기화학적 특성 (Synthesis and Properties of Polydentate Schiff Base Ligands having $N_nO_2$ (n=3~5) Donor Atoms and Bromine Substituent and their Transition Metal Complexes)

  • 브롬 치환기를 가지는 여러자리 시프염기인 5-Br-BSDT(bis(5-bromosalicylaldehyde)diethy- lenetriamine), 5-Br-BSTT(bis(5-bromosalicylaldehyde)triethylenetetramine)와 5-Br-BSTP(bis(5-bromosalicylaldehyde)tetraethylenepentamine)를 합성하여 DMSO 용매에서 이들 리간드들과 구리(II), 니켈(II) 및 아연(II) 등의 전이금속과의 안정도 상수값을 폴라로그래피를 이용하여 구하였다. 이때 금속과 리간드는 1 : 1착물을 형성하였고, 안정도 상수값은 금속으로서는 Cu(II)>Ni(II)>Zn(II) 순서로, 리간드로서는 5-Br-BSTP>5-Br-BSTT>5-Br-BSDT 순서로 나타남으로서 주개 원자수의 증가에 의존한다는 사실을 알았다. 엔탈피와 엔트로피는 모두 음의 값을 나타내었는데 흡열반응으로서 금속이온과 리간드가 매우 강하게 결합하고 있음을 알 수 있고 극성을 가지는 금속착물이 생성되어 용매인 DMSO와 아주 강한 상호작용을 함으로써 큰 음의 엔트로피 값을 가진 것으로 생각된다.
