  • Objectives ; Sasang Constitional Medicine is a part of Korean traditional Medicine, and classify human constitution into four types. Scalp and hair is a part of skin. Skin is one of constitutional charasteristic element. So we researched a correlation between Sasang constitutions and Korean adult scalp and hair condition. This is a basic study to find constitution can be a important factor to care scalp and hair. Methods ; We examined Sasang constitutions and scalp and hair condition of 80 human who aged from 20-50. Scalp disease, dandruff was observed by video micro scope and sebum tape diagnosis. Thickness of hair was measured by Laser Scan Micrometer(LSM-3100). Itching sense and life habit was also investigated. Constitution diagnosis and scalp, hair diagnosis was investigated seperately as a blind test and the data was statistically analyzed with chi-square test, correlation analysis, one-way analysis of varience. Results ; 1. In Sasang Constitution, Taeumin group had significant tendency of oilily scalp. 70% of Taeumin group had oilily scalp. 2. The group of dry or oilily scalp had more itching sense and more sensativity of scalp compaired to neuter scalp group. 3. There was no correlation between height, weight, thickness of hair, itching sense, scalp disease and Sasang constitution. 4. There was correlation between loss of hair and drinking alcohol, obesity, curly hair, soft scalp. Conclusions ; Korean adult scalp and hair condition had correlation with Sasang constitution.

  • The scalp is skin tissue for skull-protection and roots for hair growth. Therefore continuous monitoring of scalp condition is essential for hair management. However, the equipments for existent are inconvenient to use because of focus tremor and external factors(Hair Gel, Wax, accessories and so on). Furthermore there is a problem to use an expensive optical devices like CCD (Charge Coupled Device) camera or lens of 200 - 1000 magnification. It causes a difficulty of using those equipment. We design the special electrode(length 5.65mm, diameter 0.8mm of needle shape) and the impedance system(1kHz, 78uA). Tn this paper, we can measure scalp impedance with our system. Moreover, we find the possibility of classifying scalp condition with measured impedance values. For the classification of scalp condition, we used ARAMO-TS as an imaging system. In conclusion, the problem of existent devices could be improved using these method. It also has a benefit of continuous monitoring of scalp condition.

  • Objectives : Seborrheic dermatitis is common abnormal skin condition characterized by flaking and itch. In seborrheic dermatitis, the flakes are greasy and yellowish. Inflammation is also observed. Through this paper we can understand the process of seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp and confirm the scalp changes in the treatment process. The purpose of this study was to report the clinical effects of herbal medicine on Seborrheic dermatitis Methods : We employed oriental medical treatments; herbal-medication (Hyeongbangpaedoksangamibang), infant acupuncture, moxibustion and blood therapy. We treated her three times a week. She took medicine three times a day after a meal. During taking medicine, we let her avoid fatty food, flour based food. Her father took a picture the patient's head parts and we compared the symptom with previous symptom. With the picture, we evaluated the patient's scalp condition. Results : After taking treatment, the scalp condition of the patient was much improved. At first, yellowish to reddish scaly pimples appear along the hairline and itching was severe. There were thick and black crusts on the scalp, red, greasy skin covered with flaky white or yellow scales. After that the crusts were fell off and the itching was disappeared during the treatment period. And then the hair loss was occurred. After a year of treatment, scalp condition and hair were back to normal. Conclusion : Herbal medicine (Hyeongbangpaedoksangamibang) with oriental medical treatments was effective in the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp and it helped to improve regenerating the scalp condition.

The necessity of health treatment of scalp hair which was damaged by frequent permanent hair wave and hair coloring is on the rise. This study will present how to control and treat the scalp hair and will check how we feel about the necessity of scalp hair treatment. This study finally shows that people think their scalp hair conditions are not normal and chemically treated hair in spite of their natural hair. However, most people think that the scalp hair treatment is very useful to their hair and this result enables us to predict the future market of the scalp hair treatment business will be growing day by day. • Total scalp avulsion is rare but a devastating injury. This condition burdens the patient with disfigured cosmetic appearance and permanent psychosocial trauma. Throughout history, this condition has been favored in women working with mechanics since the long hair function as a vector appliance for oblique pull of the hair into a stationary torque. We present our experience of the replantation of the total avulsed scalp in male, first to be reported in Korea. Warm ischemic time was exceeding 16 hours along with severe crushed condition of the detached margin, a relatively satisfactory result was obtained.

  • Angiosarcoma of the brain, either primary or metastatic is extremely rare. Moreover, angiosarcoma metastazing to the brain is also highly unlike to occur when comparing with metastases to the other organs. Thus, an ideal treatment strategy has not been established. A 67-year-old man with past surgical history of a scalp angiosarcoma underwent surgical resection of intracranial invasion. Because of wide scalp flap excision and resultant poor vascularity of the scalp flap, additional radiation was not provided. Because adjuvant therapy is impossible due to poor scalp condition, more careful but ample resection of the primary lesion is essential to conduct initial operation.

  • Hairless scalp areas can occur due to trauma, tumors, or congenital disease. This aesthetically unpleasing condition can lead to psychosocial distress, and thin skin flaps may be prone to scarring. Treating the hairless scalp by simple excision is challenging because of skin tension. Tissue expanders are a good option for hairless scalp resurfacing. However, a single expansion may be inadequate to cover the entire defect. This report describes good results obtained using a serial resurfacing method involving re-expansion of the flap with a tissue expander to treat two patients with large lesions: one due to aplasia cutis congenital and another who underwent dermatofibrosarcoma protuberance resection. The results suggest that scalp resurfacing by serial tissue expansion using a tissue expander can be used for extensive lesions.

  • The scalp is the thickest skin in the body and protects the intracranial structures. The coverage of a large scalp defect is a difficult surgical procedure, the full details of which must be considered prior to the procedure, such as defect size and depth, and various factors related to the patient's general condition. Although a free flap is the recommended surgical procedure to cover large scalp defects, it is a high-risk operation that is not appropriate for all patients. As such, other surgical options must be explored. We present the case of a patient with an ulcer on the scalp after wide excision and split-thickness skin graft for squamous cell cancer. We successfully performed a reverse temporalis muscle flap for this patient.
