Objective : To report one case where Subdural Hematoma(SDH) in operation indication was treated by Scalp Acupuncture therapy. Methods : The changes in clinical symptoms of headache, dizziness, nausea, vommitting were described when this patient was treated with scalp acupuncture therapy and with herb medication. Results : Symptoms (headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting. etc) at admission decayed gradually with Scalp Acupuncture therapy. The patients could walk alone at discharge. Conclusion : Though she had been in op. indication, the patient's health improved by herbmedications of Dodamcheseup($d{\breve{a}}ot{\acute{a}}nchu{\acute{u}}shi$)-Tang etc. and by Scalp Acupuncture therapy.

Objective : The purpose of this report is to examine the effects of Scalp Acupuncture therapy in the H.I.V.D patients. Methods : We investigated 30 patients suffering from low back pain with sciatica which were admitted to Cheonan O. M. hospital from Aug. 1, 2001 to Jan. 31. 2002. 30 patients had a diagnosis of herniated lumbar intervertebral disc by Lumbar-C.T or Lumbar-M.R.I. we treated 30 patients by Scalp Acupuncture therapy. Results : 1. We operated Scalp Acupuncture on the foot-motion sensory area(족운동감각구), the sensory area(감각구) 2. In the result of treatment due to clinical symptoms, leg radiating pain was more effective than any other clinical symptoms. 3. The efficacy of Scalp Acupuncture therapy was 83.3%(when we set a standard things more than fair) and 63.3%(when we set a standard things more than good). Conclusions: The Scalp Acupuncture therapy is effective of H.I.V.D patients, but we thought that it needed to prove effects of Scalp Acupuncture therapy for efficient application by more clinical reports.

Objectives : This study was to compare effects of scalp acupuncture with usual acupuncture on peripheral facial palsy in comparison with usual acupuncture only. Methods : We investigated 40 cases of patients with peripheral facial palsy, and devided patients into two groups: We treated one group by scalp acupuncture with usual acupuncture and did the other group by usual acupuncture only. To evaluate the effectiveness of treatment applied for two groups, we used Gross Grading System of House-Brackmann(H-B grade), Yanagihara's Unweighed Grading System(Y system). Results : 1. In H-B grade group B(common acupuncture therapy and scalp acupuncture)'s score was reduced than group A(common acupuncture therapy), but there was no statistical significance. 2. In Y-system group B was higher than group A, but there was no statistical significance. Conclusions : There was no stastical significance between two groups : treated by scalp acupuncture with usual acupuncture and usual acupuncture therapy only, on peripheral facial palsy.

Objectives : The study was designed to evaluate the effects of scalp acupuncture treatment on patients with insomnia in China. Methods : A journal search was performed using China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI) from 1994 to 2011. Key words used within the search were 'insomnia' and 'scalp acupuncture'. Results : 19 studies were selected. 9 RCTs and 2 case control studies showed that scalp acupuncture therapy reported better results than routine acupuncture, western medicine, and herbal medicine therapy. 8 case reports described a significant improvement in patients with insomnia by scalp acupuncture. Conclusions : There have been many studies regarding scalp acupuncture on patients with insomnia in China and these studies can be applied to clinical practices within Korea.

Objective : This study is for taking data for the clinical application of scalp acupunture(頭針). Methods : I made 29 patients an object of this study. They were diagnosed as Stroke and hospitalized in Dong-shin Univ. Korean Traditional Medicine Hospital from March, 2001 to May, 2001. They were divided into two groups. One was an experimental group, treated by 2 methods - common acupunture therapy and scalp acupunture(jung-sup jeon who-sa-sun(頂攝前 後斜線). The other was an control group, treated only by common acupunture therapy. Results : In an experimental group, there were 8 excellent cases(57.14%) and 6 good cases(42.86%). In an control group, there were 3 excellent cases(20%), 10 good cases(66.6%) and 2 improved cases(13.33%). There was no significant difference in variable of effects according to treatments. Conclusions : I thought that it needed to prove effects of scalp acupunture(頭鍼) for efficient application by more clinical data from now.

The purpose of this study is to report the case of a patient with idiopathic Parkinson's disease treated with scalp acupuncture and Chuna manual therapy. A total of 10 sessions of scalp acupuncture and Chuna manual therapy were performed. At the beginning of the treatment, the Korean version of modified Barthel index (K-MBI) was 25 points, and the range of motion (ROM) of both knee joints was 150° in passive flexion, while active movement was impossible. In addition, both knee joints were flexed and contracted at -40° on the right and -30° on the left. Over the course of treatment, the ROM of both knee joints improved to -20° on the right and -10° on the left. The patient was even able to maintain a standing position and was allowed to walk approximately 10 steps with support. Temporary improvement was observed as a result of applying scalp acupuncture treatment and Chuna manual therapy to a patient whose symptoms were gradually worsening.

Objectives : To report one case of semi-coma patient was treated by scalp acupuncture with electric stimulation. Methods : Patient (state of semi-coma) was treated by scalp acupuncture with electric stimulation, herbal medication and physical therapy. The improvement of patient was measured every other week by Glasgow Coma Scale(GCS), Modified Bathel Index(MBI), National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale(NIHSS). Results : We observed the patient decrease in NIHSS score and increase in GCS and MBI. Symptoms of patient such as semi-coma were improved following the treatment. Conclusions : It is suggested that oriental medical treatment; scalp acupuncture with electric stimulation, herbal medication and physical therapy were effective in semi-coma caused by traumatic brain injury.

Objective : This study is designed in order to evaluate the therapeutic effect of Scalp Acupuncture and Do-ma Acupuncture related with Governer Vessel(Dok) and Bladder Meridian(Chok-taeyang) on acute low back pain Methods : We investigated 10 patients suffering from acute low back pain were treated from Mach. 1st 2005 to Jun. 30th 2005. 10 patients, were diagnosed only straightened curvature on lateral view of lumbar spine X-ray and get Scalp acupunture related with Governer Vessel(Dok) and Bladder Meridian(Chok-taeyang) and Do-ma acupuncture. Pain rating score(PRS) was used to assess the pain for its intensity, frequency, duration, and aggravating factors. And visual analog scale(VAS) was used, too. Results : Both Scalp acupunture related with Governer Vessel(Dok) and Bladder Meridian(Chok-taeyang) and Do-ma acupuncture therapy showed good effect on acute low back pain. It was proved by the difference between PRS and VAS checked before treatment and what checked after treatment. In the evaluation of treatment effect, Exellent was 2(20%), Good was 5(50%), Moderate was 3(30%), Poor was 0(0%). Conclusion : The therapeutic effect of Scalp Acupuncture and Do-ma Acupuncture on acute low back pain can be recommended as a useful therapy to treat acute low back pain.

Objective : To report seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp which is treated by Bee-venom Acupuncture therapy. Methods : Under the assumption that Be-venom Therapy may be effective for treatment seborrheic dermatitis, Bee-venom acupuncture was injected subcutaneously into the lesion including Gv24(神庭), Gv23(上星), Gv22, Gv20(白會), B4(曲差), B5(五處), B6(承光), S8(頭維), etc. Results : The symptoms including erythematous plaque, scale, itching were resolved clearly except a little scale by Bee-venom acupuncture Therapy. Conclusions : Bee-venom acupuncture Therapy is effective in the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis. if more clinical trials like this are proved to be effective in seborrheic dermatitis, we can expect that Bee-venom acupuncture Therapy is used to treatment of seborrheic dermatitis as good method.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to obtain some knowledge about the scalp acupuncture treatment on Parkinson's disease for the future practice and the research from the clinical studies in China. Methods : The literatures were searched using the database-China Academic Journals(CAJ) (2006-2011). Clinical studies of scalp acupuncture for Parkinson's disease-Randomized controlled trial(RCT), case control study, case series, case report- were included. Results : Of 65 articles, 12 Clinical studies met our inclusion criteria. Three case series reported a significant improvement in the patients with Parkinson's disease by scalp acupuncture, and 9 RCTs reported a significant effectiveness of scalp acupuncture as a monotherapy or as a combination therapy with Madopa Tablet(Levodopa + Benserazide HCl) treatment. Conclusions : The results of this study could be used for the future study about scalp acupuncture for Parkinson's disease.
