  • The method of flame hole dynamics is demonstrated as a mean to simulate turbulent flame extinction. The core of the flame hole dynamics involves derivation of a random walk mapping for the flame holes, created by local quenching, between the burning and quenched states provided that the dynamic characteristics of flame edges is known. Then, the random walk mapping is projected to a background turbulent field. The numerical simulations are carried out with the further simplifications of flame string and unconditioned scalar dissipation rate. The simulation results show how the chance of partial quenching is influenced by the crossover scalar dissipation rate. Finally, a list of improvements, necessary to achieve more realistic turbulent flame quenching simulation, are discussed.

  • Error resilience for image coding is an important component of multimedia communication system. Error resilience schemes address loss recovery from the compression perspective. Multiple description coding (MDC) is one of the error resilience techniques promising for robust video transmission. It is the way to achieve tradeoff description such as scalar quantization, correlating transform and the quantized frame expansion. In this paper, we consider Multiple Description Scalar Quantization (MDSQ) to wavelet domain. Conventional MDSQ schemes considered description with equal weights in each sub-bands. But, we can see that the each sub-bands is unequal contribution to whole image quality. Therefore, we experiment the multiple design MDSQ table to make probability of zero index high, which gives high efficiency in arithmetic symbol coder. We also compare our proposed method with the conventional methods and show improved performance in terms of redundancy-rate-distortion.

  • A review of probability density function(PDF) methodology and direct numerical simulation for the purpose of modeling turbulent combustion are presented in this study where particular attention is focused on the modeling problem of turbulent molecular mixing term appearing in PDF transport equation. Existing mixing models results were compared to those evaluated by direct numerical simulation in a turbulent premixed medium with finite rate chemistry in which the initial scalar field is composed of pockets of partially burnt gases to simulate autoignition. Two traditional mixing models, the least mean square estimations(LMSE) and Curl#s model are examined to see their prediction capability as well as their modeling approach. Test calculations report that the stochastically based Curl#s approach, though qualitatively demonstrates some unphysical behaviors, predicts scalar evolutions which are found to be in good agreement with statistical data of direct numerical simulation.

  • Optical flow is important not only for determining velocity and trajectory of the object but also for image segmentation and 3D information. The gradient-based method is mostly used to compute optical flow form image sequences, but it accomanies smoothing effect of velocity vectors. In this paper, an enhanced algorithm for computing optical flow using scalar edge to restrict is also applied to reduce errors both around motion boundary and in the occlusion region.

  • In this paper we study the effects of transmission noise on fixed-length coded wavelet coefficients. We use a posteriori detectors which include inter-bitplane information and determine which transmitted codeword was most likely corrupted into a received erroneous codeword We present a simple method of recovering from these errors once detected and demonstrate our restoration methodology on scalar-quantized wavelet coefficients that have been transmitted across a binary symmetric channel.

  • This paper has proposed a method to analyze a 30 KVA superconducting generator using 3-dimensional FEM program. 3 kinds of 3D formulation methods are employed such as scalar potential in core region, reduced scalar potential in air region and T-${\omega}$ formulation in stator coil region. As results of the simulation, various parameters of the generator have been analyzed like air gap flux density, induced voltage, inductance, etc.

  • The most time-consuming back-bone operation in an elliptic curve cryptosystem is scalar multiplication. In this paper, we propose a method of inducing a GF operation named point quadruple operation to be used in the quad-and-add algorithm, whith was achieved by refining the traditional double-and-add algorithm. Induced expression of the algorithm was verified and proven by C program in a real model of calculation. The point quadruple operation can be used in fast and efficient implementation of scalar multiplication operation.

  • The G-Euler process has been proposed to overcome the difficulties of the calculation of the exponential function of the Jacobian. It is an explicit method that uses the exponential function of the scalar skew-symmetric matrix. We define the moving shapes of true solutions and the moving shapes of numerical solutions. It is discussed whether the moving shape of the numerical solution matches the moving shape of the true solution. The match rates of these two kinds of moving shapes are sequentially calculated by the G-Euler process without using the true solution. It is shown that the closer the minimum match rate is to 100%, the more closely the numerical solutions follow the true solutions to the end. The minimum match rate indicates the reliability of the numerical solution calculated by the G-Euler process. The graphs of the Lorenz system in Perko [1] are different from those drawn by the G-Euler process. By the way, there is no basis for claiming that the Perko's graphs are reliable.

  • An adaptive scalar DCT-Wiener filtering method that can be applied to the problem of restoring an image degraded by white Gaussian noise is presented. In this method, the power spectrum needed to Winer filering is adaptively estimated in block-wise according to the lical properties in transform domain. In addition, overlapping method for reducing the block artifact is considered. Experimental results show that the adaptive Wiener filter by the proposed method yields performance improvement and better image quality over the nonadaptive one and the spatial Lee filter.
