The COMS, Korea's first geostationary multipurpose satellite program will accommodate 3 kind of payloads; Ka-Band communication transponder, GOCI (Geostationary Ocean Color Imager), and MI (Meteorological Imager). MI raw data will be transferred to ground station via L-band link. The ground station will perform image data processing for raw data, generate them into the LRIT/HRIT format, the user dissemination data recommended by the CGMS. The LRIT/HRIT are disseminated via satellite to user stations. This paper shows the COMS LRIT data generation procedure based on COMS LRIT specification and its verification results using the LRIT user station.
CubeSats classified as pico-class satellite require a ground station to track the satellite, transmit a command, and receive an on-orbit data such as SOH (State-of-Health) and mission data according to the operation plan. For this, ground station system has to be properly designed to perform a communication to with the satellite with enough up- and down-link budgets. In this study, a conceptual design of the ground station has been performed for the CubeSat named as STEP Cube Lab. (Cube Laboratory for Space Technology Experimental Project). The paper includes a ground station hardware interface design, link budget analysis and a ground station software realization. In addition, the operation plan of the ground station has been established considering the STEP Cube Lab. mission requirements.
In this paper, we present a simple ground receiving station as an educational method for a satellite system. Our system is produced similarly to the existing fixed ground station in terms of function by using satellite communication technology and related software commonly used in the amateur radio field. In addition, we conducted operation test to receive signals from operating satellites and confirmed the possibility of using them as a way to educate satellite systems, such as understanding ground station systems through satellite reception experience and satellite state information acquisition, and further designing satellite systems.

Science and Technology Satellite-3 (STSAT-3) is a 150 kg class micro satellite based with the national space program. The STSAT-3 system consists of a space segment, ground segment, launch service segment, and various external interfaces including additional ground stations to support launch and early operation phases. The major ground segment is the ground station at the Satellite Technology Research Center, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology site. The ground station provides the capability to monitor and control STSAT-3, conduct STSAT-3 mission planning, and receive, process, and distribute STSAT-3 payload data to satisfy the overall missions of STSAT-3. The ground station consists of the mission control element and the data receiving element. This ground station is designed with the concept of low cost and high efficiency. In this paper, the requirements and design of the ground station that has been developed are examined.
Satellite images from Earth-orbit satellites are widely utilized in both the public sector and commercial industry. To achieve a high-quality satellite image service, satellite operation focuses on accurately transmitting images and information of space to users. In particular, the delivery time from ground system to user is the core factor of the quality of a ground station service. Thus, much development is underway to specifically shorten the time required for distribution to users. In this paper, we introduce an interface design of a ground station to shorten the delivery time from order to distribution, related to the archiving order of satellite images.
The CubeSats is classified as a pico-class satellite which requires a ground station to track the satellite, transmit commands, and receive an on-orbit data such as SOH (State-of-Health) and mission data according to the operation plan. Remote sensing division of satellite technology research center (SaTReC) , Korea advanced institute of science and technology (KAIST) has developed a ground receiving and processing system for high resolution satellite images. The developed system will be adapted and operated to receive, process and distributes images acquired from of the second Korean Multi-purpose Satellite (KOMPSAT-2), which will be launched in 2004. This project had initiated to develop and Koreanize the state-of-the-art technologies for the ground receiving system for high resolution remote sensing images, which range from direct ingestion of image data to the distribution of products through precise image correction. During four years development from Dec. 1998 until Aug. 2002, the system had been verified in various ways including real operation of custom-made systems such as a prototype system for SPOT and a commercialized system for KOMPSAT-1. Currently the system is under customization for installation at KOMPSAT-2 ground station. In this paper, we present accomplished work and future work.

In general, most incomplete communication link setup between satellite and ground station right after separation from launcher come from less accurate orbital vector ground station uses to track the satellite because only predicted orbital state vector is available during first few orbits. This paper describes the developed procedure for successful initial acquisition for KOMPSAT-2 using scanning functions ofK13 antenna system with predicted orbital information. Azimuth scan, raster scan, spiral scan functions were tested with KOMPSA Tl under intentionally degraded orbital information for antenna operation. Through tests, spiral scan function was decided to be best search scan among 3 scans. Developed procedure can assure the successful acquisition only if azimuth offset and time offset value are within +/-2deg and +/-30sec, respectively.
After launch of Low Earth Orbit(LEO) satellite, Initial Activation Checkout(IAC) and Calibration and Validation(Cal & Val) procedure are performed prior to enter normal operation phase. During normal operation phase, most of the time is allocated for mission operation except following up measures to anomaly and orbit maintenance. Since mission operation capability is key indicator for success of LEO satellite program and consistent with promotion purpose of LEO satellite program, reliability should be ensured by conducting through test. In order to ensure reliability by examining the role of LEO satellite and ground station during ground test phase, realistic test scenario that is similar to actual operation conditions should be created, and test that aims to verify full mission cycle should be performed by transmitting created command and receiving image and telemetry data. This paper describes the test design and result. Consideration items for test design are described in detail and result of designed test items are summarized.

This paper describes the design of the Ka-band Antenna/RF system, which was developed for the experiment of the high-speed satellite communications with geostationary satellite. The design issues described here are the ka-band characteristics for having an optimum performance. and the system characteristic for having a reliable and an extensional operation.
