  • In the three axis control of satellite by using reaction wheel and gyro, a Gyro carries out measuring of the attitude angie and the attitude angular velocity. The Gyro is operated by the electronic part and the mechanic actuator. The digital part of the electronic part is consisted of the FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array), which is one of the methods for designing VLSI (Very Large Scale Integrated Circuit), and the mechanic actuator processes the input/output data by the dynamic model. In the research of the mixed mode of Gyro, the simulation is accomplished by SABER of the mixed mode simulator and the results for the practical implementation of the satellite ACS (Attitude Control System) interfaced with the data processing are proposed.

  • The mode transition from cone-jet to dripping in colloid thruster operation has been analytically investigated. The transition has been predicted by the dynamic behavior of a liquid drop at the tip of the cone-jet. Conservation laws are applied to determine the upward motion of the drop, and an instability model of electrified jets is used to determine the jet breakup. Finally, for the first time, the analysis enables prediction of the transition in terms of the Weber number and electric Bond number. The predictions are in good agreement with experimental data.

  • Breakup models are evaluated using the experimental drop trajectory ill this study. The experimental conditions corespond to Weber # 56, 260, 463. Computations are carried out using a modified KIVA-II program with 2 different breakup submodel(TAB and Wave breakup model) and dynamic drag model which the drag coefficient changes dynamically with distortion parameter. Results show that computation with wave breakup model represents the experimental drop trajectory better than that with TAB submodel. And result with wave breakup model shows similar breakup pattern to experimental breakup process. It is thought that in wave breakup model the small drops are shed from the parent drop throughout parcel lifetime such thai this modelling represents the real breakup process well.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the short term rainfall forecast skill using neural network model that can deal with the non-linear behavior between satellite data and ground observation, and minimize the flood damage. To overcome the geographical limitation of Korean peninsula and get the long forecast lead time of 3 to 6 hour, the developed rainfall forecast model took satellite imageries and wide range AWS data. The architecture of neural network model is a multi-layer neural network which consists of one input layer, one hidden layer, and one output layer. Neural network is trained using a momentum back propagation algorithm. Flood was estimated using rainfall forecasts. We developed a dynamic flood inundation model which is associated with 1-dimensional flood routing model. Therefore the model can forecast flood aspect in a protected lowland by levee failure of river. In the case of multiple levee breaks at main stream and tributaries, the developed flood inundation model can estimate flood level in a river and inundation level and area in a protected lowland simultaneously.

  • This research is concerned with the dynamic modeling of the multi-purpose satellite with deployable solar arrays equipped with strain energy hinges(SEH). To this end, we proposed the use of the equivalent torsional spring for the SEH and derived the equations of motion assuming that the satellite and solar arrays are being rigid. We also considered the effect of the support string for the ground experiment model, which has been observed as a critical factor affecting the deployment in the ground experiments. From the numerical simulation results, it is found that solar arrays are deployed in a similar pattern but the hub motions are different because of the support strings. It was concluded that the non-gravity deployment of the solar arrays can be approximately simulated by the ground experimental facility. The effects of the support string are also investigated by varying the length of the string. It was found that the current length of the string is adequate for the ground experiment. Ground experimental results will follow.

  • On board satellite magnetometer measures all possible magnetic components, such as the core and crustal components from the inner Earth, and magnetospheric, ionospheric and' its coupled components from the outer Earth. Due to its dipole and non-dipole features, separation of the respective component from the measurements is most difficult unless the comprehensive knowledge of each field characteristics and the consequent modeling methods are solidly constructed. Especially, regional long wavelength magnetic signals of the crust are strongly masked by the main field and dynamic external field and hence difficult to isolate in the satellite measurements. In particular, the un-modeled effects of the strong auroral external fields and the complicated behavior of the core field near the geomagnetic poles conspire to greatly reduce the crustal magnetic signal-to-noise ratio in the polar region relative to the rest of the Earth. We can, however, use spectral correlation theory to filter the static lithospheric and core field components from the dynamic external field effects that are closely related to the geomagnetic storms affecting ionospheric current disturbances. To help isolate regional lithospheric anomalies from core field components, the correlations between CHAMP magnetic anomalies and the pseudo-magnetic effects inferred from satellite gravity-derived crustal thickness variations can also be exploited, Isolation of long wavelengths resulted from the respective source is the key to understand and improve the models of the external magnetic components as well as of the lower crustal structures. We expect to model the external field variations that might also be affected by a sudden upheaval like tsunami by using our algorithm after isolating any internal field components.

  • A forward-facing aerospike attached to a payload fairing of a satellite launch vehicle significantly alters its flowfield and decreases the aerodynamic drag in transonic and low supersonic speeds. The present payload fairing is an axisymmetric configuration and consists of a blunt-nosed body along with a conical section, payload shroud, boat tail and followed by a booster. The main purpose of the present numerical simulations is to evaluate flowfield and assess the performance of aerodynamic drag coefficient with and without aerospike attached to a payload fairing of a typical satellite launch vehicle in freestream Mach number range 0.8 ≤ M ≤ 3.0 and freestream Reynolds number range 33.35 × 106/m ≤ Re ≤ 46.75 × 106/m whichincludes the maximum aerodynamic drag and maximum dynamic conditions during ascent flight trajectory of the satellite launch vehicle. A numerical simulation has been carried out to solve time-dependent compressible turbulent axisymmetric Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. The closure of the system of equations is achieved using the Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model. The aerodynamic drag reduction mechanism is analysed employing numerical results such as velocity vector plots, density and Mach contours in conjunction with the experimental flow visualization pictures. The variations of wall pressure coefficient over the payload fairing with and without aerospike are exhibiting different kind of flowfield characteristics in the transonic and low supersonic speeds. The numerically computed results are compared with schlieren pictures, oil flow patterns and measured wall pressure distributions and exhibit good agreement between them.

  • The component mode synthesis method allows the elastic deformation of each component in the flexible multibody system by a sum of modes and modal coordinates. This paper focuses on the selection of boundary conditions and deformation modes for redundantly constrained flexible components in mechanical system dynamics. The result of a flexible body dynamic analysis with only normal modes is used to identify proper boundary conditions of a static modes and a desired set of static modes which will be used in the final model. A simple four bar mechanism is used to explain the procedure and a space satellite with solar panels is analyzed using the proposed method.

  • The increasing number of users of mobile communication systems and the corresponding need for increased system capacity require the use of a modulation scheme which is both power and spectrally efficient. In this paper, we numerically calculate the BER performance of DS/CDMA-BPSK system in different fading channel (Rayleigh, Rician, Shadow Rician). Also, we calculate BER performance and the channel capacity of DS/CDMA-BPSK system which is constant or nearly constant envelopes in 3-state fading channel model. The Shadow Rician fading model described in this paper apply the parameters of the Canadian Mobile Satellite (MSAT). And we assume that the 3-state fading channel model is consist of Rayleigh fading state, Rician fading state, and shadow Rician fading state. This model can be used as a basis for the simulation of the land mobile satellite channel. The dynamic 3-state fading channel model is considered corresponding to different environments and the transitions between these environments. From the numerically calculate results, the DS/CDMA-BPSK system with MUI-20, PG-511 can not achieve the BER performance ($P_b\leq10^{-5}$). And the channel capacity did not meet the system requirement. Also, we know that the BER performance is depend m the occupancy probability of radio channel and the degree of shadow. From the results, we how that during shadowed time intervals it is necessary to use some form of error control coding and receiver diversity in order to support reliable data communication.
