위성기상자료를 활용한 황사에 따른 한반도 국민 건강영향평가 (Effects of morbidity in Korean peninsula due to sand dust using satellite aerosol observations)

  • 1990년대 이후 황사의 발생빈도가 꾸준히 증가하고 있으며 이에 따른 사회전반의 피해도 증가하고 있는 실정이다. 최근까지 진행된 황사에 대한 대부분의 선행 연구에서는 지점관측자료를 이용하였는데, 시간적/공간적 변동성이 강한 황사를 정확히 해석하기에는 부족한 상황이었다. 이에 본 연구에서는 위성에어로졸 자료를 이용하여 기존연구의 시공간적인 한계성을 극복하여 황사 발생 기간 동안의 호흡기질환과 안질, 심혈관계질환자 수의 변동양상에 관한 건강영향평가를 진행하였다. 분석결과, 일반적으로 위성에어로졸 수치는 봄철에 높게 나타났으며, 공간적으로 동쪽 지역보다는 서해안과 인근한 서쪽 지역에서 대체적으로 높은 수치를 나타내었다. 황사와 관련성이 높은 질병인 안구질환, 순환계통의 질환, 호흡기계질환과의 상관분석은 비교적 4월에서 7월사이에 높게 나타났는데, 지체기간 3개월에서 0.6 정도의 높은 양의 상관성을 나타내었다. 본 연구를 통하여 위성 에어로졸 자료를 이용하여 기존의 지점자료기반 연구의 한계성을 극복할 수 있음을 시사하였다. 또한, 건강영향 평가에 대한 가능성을 파악함으로서 황사피해에 대비한 의약품의 원활한 공급과 불필요한 의료비 지출예방에 이바지 할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

모래-자갈 혼합토의 강도 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Strength Characteristics of Sand-gravel Mixtures)

  • 작은 입자 사이에 소량의 굵은 입자가 고립된 상태로 존재하는 모래-자갈 혼합토의 강도는 흙에서 대부분을 차지하는 작은 입자 즉 모래나 점토의 역학적 특성에 따라 좌우되지만 소량의 굵은 입자인 자갈에 의해 영향을 받는 경우도 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 이와 같이 모래 지반 내에 흩어져 있는 소량의 굵은 자갈이 흙의 강도에 미치는 영향에 대하여 연구하였다. 시멘트로 고결된 모래에 일정한 비율로 굵은 자갈을 각층 높이의 중간부분에 넣고 다음 층을 쌓아 다지는 방식으로 자갈이 포함된 공시체를 완성하였다. 굵은 자갈의 크기와 개수를 달리하면서 다양한 공시체를 제작하여 2일 동안 양생시킨 다음 일축압축강도를 평가하였다. 한편 내부마찰각을 평가하기 위하여 깨끗한 모래에 포함된 자갈의 개수를 달리하면서 직접전단시험을 실시하였다. 공시체 내에 포함된 자갈의 개수나 크기는 다르지만 중량비가 7%로 동일한 경우, 자갈의 개수가 증가함에 따라 고결모래의 일축압축강도는 약 15% 정도 감소하다가 다시 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 동일한 크기의 자갈이 여러 개 포함된 경우에도 자갈의 개수가 증가할수록 일축압축강도는 감소하다가 다시 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 자갈이 포함된 모래의 내부마찰각은 자갈의 개수가 증가함에 따라 5도 정도 감소하다가 다시 회복되는 경향을 보였다.

입도분포 특성을 기반으로 한 고창 연안의 과거 퇴적환경 분석 (Analysis of Paleo Sedimentary Environment of Gochang Coast Using Grain Size Distribution Characteristics)

  • This study aimed to identify different sedimentary environments of Gochang coast according to geomorphic conditions of each bore hole. To achieve the aim, this study utilized the classification of sedimentary environmental conditions of surface sediment, which was based on grain size distribution characteristics.In other words, three sedimentary environmental conditions ofsandy flat + sand beach, coastal sand dune and weathered bedrock soil, which were distinguished based on grain size distribution characteristics of mean-sorting for surface sediments, were applied to the sediments of bore holes. Four sedimentary environments could be identified in Gochang coast. First, the lake sedimentary environment originated from terrestrial sediments seems to have been dominated by weathered bedrock soil that the surface flow has deposited in a coastal wetland or a boundary, which is affected by the sea. Second, the lake sedimentary environment that is little affected by coastal sand dunes is located at the center of a valley, which is connected to the land, and the dune slack of Saban-ri. The surface flow of weather bedrock soil is the main source of deposits. However, there seems to have been a temporary influence of the sea. Third, the lake sedimentary environment that is strongly affected by coastal sand dunes is located at the dune slack of Yeongjeong-ri. This environment shows traces of a change from a coastal sand dune into the dune slack. Finally, the coastalsand dune sedimentary environment, which wasinvestigated by boring the current coastal sand dune, shows a temporary influence of the land but seems to have maintained the overall stability. Consequently, this study demonstrated that the grain size distribution characteristics of the present surface sediments could be effectively applied to identify the sedimentary environments of the paleo bore hole sediments. In addition, the paleo change of sedimentary environment could also be identified in many places of Gochang coast. If the results of this study are combined with the age dating and geochemical analysis in future works, the paleo environmental change in Gochang coast will be restored more precisely.

마이크로파에 의한 휘발성 유기토양오염물질 제거에 관한 연구 (Microwave Remediation of Soils Contaminated by Volatile Organic Chemicals)

  • This study has been focused on the applicability of microwave treatment of soil contaminated by volitile organic chemicals. Substrates studied were sand and sandy soil. These substrates were impregnated with toluene, tetrachloroethylene, o-xylene and p-dichlorobenzene. The microwave treatment was conducted in a modified domestic microwave oven: 2450 MHz, 700 W. The sandy soil temperature added water went up rapidly to about 130$\circ$C for 4 minutes. And then, the temperature appeared to plateau out. A series of tests were performed to depict the effectiveness of microwave treatment technique to organic contaminants from soils. Removal efficiencies in sandy soil and sand were increased with increasing water content and exposure time. Microwave radiation penetrates the soil and heats water throughout the matrix. Therefore, addition of a certain amount of water to the contaminated soil can efficiently enhance the ability of the soil to absorb microwave energy and promote the evaporation of the volitile contaminants. And the vapour pressure of impregnated organic contaminants becomes lower. the removal efficiency becomes poor.

  • The oyster shell is lightweight and exhibits strength characteristics similar to sand. In this study, mortar specimens were fabricated by crushing them and processed to 5mm or less of the fine aggregate standard, and examined the fire resistance of the mortar according to changes in particle size distribution. In this experiment, seven particle size distribution conditions were tested. In addition, the mixing ratio was fixed at 1: 3, and the experiment was conducted in terms of the volume ratio because the densities of sand and oyster shells were different.

  • Construction work in island areas requires the materials to be transported by ship and plane, and it causes an increase in the construction costs. In addition, the construction work near marine zones may produce the marine pollution due to the harmful substances in the cement. Recently, nature-friendly construction materials are increasingly used, and there is a need to select and develop appropriate construction materials. In this study, the compressive strength, tensile strength, flow and chloride content of the mortar mixed with cement and muddy tidal flat were measured to reduce the amount of cement by applying the natural materials, muddy tidal flat and marine sand, and the results were provided as the basic construction material data.

Physical modelling of soil liquefaction in a novel micro shaking table

  • The physical models are useful to understand the soil behaviour. Hence, these tools allow validating analytical theories and numerical data. This paper addresses the design, construction and implementation of a physical model able to simulate the soil liquefaction under different cyclic actions. The model was instrumented with a piezoelectric actuator and a set of transducers to measure the porewater pressures, displacements and accelerations of the system. The soil liquefaction was assessed in three different grain size particles of a natural sand by applying a sinusoidal signal, which incorporated three amplitudes and the fundamental frequencies of three different earthquakes occurred in Colombia. In addition, such frequencies were scaled in a micro shaking table device for 1, 50 and 80 g. Tests allowed identifying the liquefaction susceptibility at various frequency and displacement amplitude combinations. Experimental evidence validated that the liquefaction susceptibility is higher in the fine-grained sands than coarse-grained sands, and showed that the acceleration of the actuator controls the phenomena trigging in the model instead of the displacement amplitude.

  • Since natural sand is being depleted, research is being conducted to use glass similar to sand as an aggregate. When non-reusable waste glass is crushed and used as fine aggregate, it is known that alkali of cement and silica of glass react to cause an alkali aggregate reaction. The purpose of this study is to provide basic data by studying the strength according to color to use waste glass as fine aggregate. When 10% was replaced, both flexural and compressive strength showed strength values similar to those of Plain. When replaced by 20% and 30%, the 7-day intensity was higher than that of Plain. In addition, colorless glass was found to have the highest strength among glass colors. More research is expected to be needed to become a fine aggregate of waste glass.

굳지 않은 경량골재 콘크리트의 공기량, 유동성 및 블리딩 특성 (Air Content, Workability and Bleeding Characteristics of Fresh Lightweight Aggregate Concrete)

  • 굳지 않은 경량골재 콘크리트의 다양한 특성에 대한 경량굵은골재 최대크기와 천연모래 치환율의 영향을 평가하기 위해 15배합의 경량골재 콘크리트가 배합되었다. 또한 굳지 않은 경량골재 콘크리트의 유동특성에 영향을 줄 수 있는 경량골재의 내부구조와 공극의 분포 및 시간에 따른 흡수 특성 등이 측정되었다. 실험 결과 경량골재 콘크리트의 초기 슬럼프는 천연 모래 치환율이 증가할수록 감소하였으며, 전경량 콘크리트의 슬럼프는 배합 후 30~60분 사이에 초기 슬럼프의 80%가 감소하였다. 경량골재 콘크리트의 공기량과 블리딩 량은 경량굵은골재 최대크기와 천연 모래 치환율에 중요한 영향을 받았다. 경험식인 ACI 211과 콘크리트표준시방서는 경량골재 콘크리트의 공기량을 과소평가 하였으며, 천연 모래 치환율의 감소할수록 그 과소평가 정도는 증가하였다. 이 연구에 의해 제안된 경량골재 콘크리트의 공기량과 블리딩율에 대한 예측모델은 실험 결과와 잘 일치하였다.

모래 공급과 인공 홍수가 양양댐 하류하천의 부착조류에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Sand Supply and Artificial Floods on Periphyton in the Downstream of a Dam (Yangyang Dam, Korea))

  • Dam construction in a river can change its hydrological pattern and trap sediments, which results in ecological changes in the downstream. It is a common phenomenon in the downstream of dams to have decreased sediment flow and increased periphyton. Artificial floods and sediment application are suggested as mitigation practices in order to simulate natural process of flood; transporting sediment and sloughing periphyton off. In this study the effects of artificial floods on periphyton were examined by applying sand artificially and discharging water from a dam (Yangyang Dam, Korea). The study area has been suffering from turbidity problems caused by shore erosion of the dam. The accumulation of inorganic sediments and increase of periphyton on the river bottom are the major factors of habitat deterioration in the downstream reaches. Artificial flood and artificial addition of sand was performed in summer and the effects were measured. Piles of applied sands were washed off easily by discharge and it enhanced the periphyton sloughing effect. The removal efficiency of periphyton was 50 ~ 80% within the 2 km reach from the dam. In conclusion artificial floods and sand application can be a good mitigation measure for the habitat rehabilitation after a dam construction in streams.
