  • In this paper, the application of power Quality monitoring based on Sampled Value(SV) which is introduced in the IEC61850 International Standard for substation communication are discussed. Firstly, while Merging Unit(MU) is designed as a process level device transmitting sensor data, the practical problems such as time delay compensation and optical fiber communication are encountered. Secondly, the Sampled Value message which is proper to a power quality monitoring system is presented. Because the power quality monitoring system requests less time-critical service compared to protection and control applications, the Sampled Value service message structure is introduced to improve efficiency. Lastly, the power quality monitoring server having various power quality analysis functions is suggested to verify the performance of Merging Unit With the diverse experiments, it is proved that the process bus distributed solution is flexible and economic for the power quality monitoring.

  • Recently, IEC61850 supports the standardized communication technique in both station bus and process bus, and presents the substation automation model. In this paper, we propose the required techniques to develop the Merging Unit (MU), which is one of the important data acquisition equipment in substation automation, under IEC61850 communication protocol. Especially, we also propose the precision time synchronization technique using GPS(Global Positioning System) for the MU. IEC61850-9-2 SV (Sampled Value) service is applied to the MU which is designed using microprocessor. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed MU, the playback program, which can reconstruct the transmitted sampled value data on the basis of time information, is developed and the performance of the IEC61850 SV service for MU is verified experimentally.

  • Low-value fish is the most commonly used feed in Asian fish farms despite the fact that its application is controversial in regard to the sustainability and biosecurity of aquaculture. In this study, the causal agent of a disease outbreak at a Korean rockfish Sebastes schlegeli farm was investigated to determine whether the low-value fish used at the farm was the source. Infected Korean rockfish and Pacific sand eel used as feed were sampled from the farm, and bacterial cultures recovered from the internal organs of all sampled rockfish were isolated as pure cultures and later identified as Vibrio harveyi. The causal agent of the disease was also isolated from the kidneys of some of the sampled Pacific sand eels. This study provides additional evidence that the low-value fish used as feed at fish farms can be a key source of infectious diseases.

  • A novel and simple algorithm for accurate calculation of RMS voltage is proposed in a digitally controlled grid-tie inverter system. Given that the actual frequency of grid voltage is continuously changing, the constant sampling frequency cannot be a multiple number of the fundamental frequency. Therefore, the RMS of grid voltage contains periodic oscillations due to the differences in the phase angle of sampled data during calculation. The proposed algorithm precisely calculates and updates the initial phase angle of the first sampled voltage in a half-cycle period using phase-locked loop, which is commonly utilized for phase angle detection in grid-tie inverter systems. The accuracy and dynamic performance of the proposed algorithm are compared with those of other algorithms through various simulations and experiments.

  • The construction of asymptotic confidence intervals is considered for the difference of binomial proportions in two doubly sampled data subject to false-positive error. The coverage behaviors of several likelihood based confidence intervals and a Bayesian confidence interval are examined. It is shown that a hierarchical Bayesian approach gives a confidence interval with good frequentist properties. Confidence interval based on the Rao score is also shown to have good performance in terms of coverage probability. However, the Wald confidence interval covers true value less often than nominal level.

  • The z-transform method is a basic mathematical tool in analyzing and designing sampled-data control systems. However, since the z-transform method relates only the sampling-instants signals, another mathematical tool is necessary to describe the continous signals between the sampling instants. For this purpose the delayed and the modi fled z-transform methods were developed. The definition of the modi fled z-transform includes a sample in the interval [-T,0] of the original signal in its series expression, where the signal value is always zero for any physical system. From this reason one step skew of the time index always appears in its application formulas. This introduces an unnecessary operation and a gap in linking the mathematical formula and its physical interpretation. Considering the conceptual difficulty and application inconvenience, a method of using the advanced z-transform in analysis of sampled-data control systems is developed as a replacement of the modi fled z-transform. With one formulation of the advanced z-transform, now it is possible to relate both the signals of the sampling instants and those in between without any complication and conceptual difficulty.

  • The Genetic diversity and relationship of native Siri (Bos indicus) cattle populations of Bhutan were evaluated using 20 microsatellite markers. A total of 120 Siri cattle were sampled and were grouped into four populations according to their geographical locations which were named Siri West, Siri South, Siri Central and Siri East cattle. For each, 30 individuals were sampled. In addition, 30 samples each of Indian Jaba (B. indicus), Tibetan Goleng (B. taurus), Nepal Hill cattle (B. indicus), Holstein Friesian (B.taurus) and Mithun (B. frontalis) were typed. The mean number of alleles per loci (MNA) and observed heterozygosity (Ho) were high in the Siri populations ($MNA=7.2{\pm}0.3$ to $8.9{\pm}0.5$ and $Ho=0.67{\pm}0.04$ to $0.73{\pm}0.03$). The smallest coefficient of genetic differentiation and genetic distance ($F_{ST}=0.015$ and $D_A=0.073$) were obtained between Siri West and Siri Central populations. Siri East population is genetically distinct from the other Siri populations being close to the Indian Jaba ($F_{ST}=0.024$ and $D_A=0.084$). A high bootstrap value of 96% supported the close relationship of Siri South, Siri Central and Siri West, while the relationship between Siri East and Jaba was also supported by a high bootstrap value (82%). Data from principal component analysis and individual assignment test were in concordance with the inference from genetic distance and differentiation. In conclusion we identified two separate Siri cattle populations in Bhutan at the genetic level. One population included Siri cattle sampled from the West, Central and South of the country and the other Siri cattle was sampled from the East of the country. We suggest that Siri cattle conservation program in Bhutan should focus on the former population as it has received less genetic influence from other cattle breeds.

  • The standard application area of over-sampled discrete wavelet transform is noise removal technology for digital images. Comparing dual density discrete wavelet transform with dual tree discrete wavelet transform, we have almost similar characteristics. In this paper, several discrete wavelet transforms are accomplished on digital image existing with noise, noises are removed with threshold processing algorithm on subband, performance evaluation experiments of the reconstructed images are accomplished. If we decide appropriate threshold value, the effect noise removal is possible. In this paper, we can certified that the suggested algorithm of 3-direction separable processing with 2 dimension dual density discrete wavelet transform is superior to several experiment results.

  • In order to investigate the Phenomenon of Acid Precipitation, pH value and Anions of Fluroide, chloride, nitrite, phosphate, bromide, nitrate and sulfate were measured from the acid precipitations sampled around 7 districts over seoul area during period of 9 months from January till September, in 1985. From the distribution of pH value gatnered, acid precipitations were noticed during period from January till Aprill, and from as of April 22nd, situation gradually recovered. The average pH value till April showed comparatively low, ranging 4.0-5.0. The pH value of 4.5-5.6 in average over whole year reaches to similar level of those in Japan. Anion analysis revealed that the main factor of pH value in Seoul district attribute mainly to the sulfate ion and nitrate ion. Moreover, these Phenomena of acid precipitation in Seoul area appeared to concentrate on certain districts, and they are slowly moving toward other directions due to such factors as wind-velocity and directions.
