Purpose - This study reviews the achievements of a pilot project for the revitalization of a commercial district performed for three years after its establishment in 2011. The project for the revitalization of the commercial district was performed to create a new local community space in connection with the traditional market and nearby districts. Although it was a pilot project, the project for the revitalization of the commercial district has been performed for almost three years. Therefore, this seems a proper time to conduct an interim evaluation of the project. This study aims to review and evaluate how the government support policy is influential for the revitalization of the commercial district. In other words, this research aims to identify what projects positively affected consumers' intention to revisit the downtown commercial area among the commercial district revitalization projects-promotion events, promotion activities, education, merchants cooperation system, IT projects, cultural events, and residents' communication. Research design, data, and methodology - This study designated seven management improvement projects affecting commercial district revitalization based on preceding studies. The survey of the degree of satisfaction on seven management improvement projects was executed targeting consumers who visited the commercial areas. Additionally, visitors' revisit intentions regarding currently visited commercial areas were also investigated. Therefore, revisit intention was set as a dependent variable and the satisfaction degrees of the respective management improvement projects were set as the independent variables. A total of 1,209 consumers were examined in six districts in the country. Result - Multiple regression analysis results showed that cultural events, education, the merchants' cooperation system, and IT projects brought statistically significant effects to the revisit intentions of consumers. In contrast, promotion events, resident communication projects, and promotion activities did not affect the revisit intentions of consumers. Particularly, the residents' communication project did not show significant influence because of consumers' recognition that it is similar to a cultural event. Conclusion - The following implications for the revitalization of business districts in the urban central area are drawn. From a general perspective, the businesses of culture, education, and cooperative system among seven businesses play positive roles regarding the intention to revisit so that the project is required to be promoted periodically through unique performances differentiated for each district, the merchant training reinforced for professionalism, and the expansion of joint events of merchants. Moreover, the sales promotion project and public relations activity are shown to be not influential to the intention to revisit. Therefore, while short-term sales promotion such as one-time gift events are required, sales promotion and public relation activities to induce revisits by mileage savings and accumulated gift presentation to attract long-term customers are required. The IT business is positively influential to the intention of revisit. Therefore, detailed information on the revitalized commercial district should be provided and additional functions such as discount coupons for continuous utilization should be included in the mobile app and the website.
This study aims to analyze whether facilities linked to the inside and outside of the station affect the revitalization of commercial spaces inside the station where individual rental stores are clustered. Rent, which can replace sales, was set as the determining factor for revitalization. In addition to the variables related to sales, culture, office work/residential, public institutions, and transportation facilities, the independent variables were the number of daily passengers, which is a location factor of the station, and the product sales business, which accounts for the largest number of industries in the commercial space inside the station. As a result of regression analysis, it was proved that rent has an effect on product sales business, linked sales facilities, transportation facilities, and the number of passengers on board. These results indicate that the formation of sales products that can increase purchasing power and the direction of facility linkage that can increase the inflow population into the station are needed to revitalize commercial spaces in the station. In this study, the establishment of a living-friendly SOC for residents' convenience daily life was suggested as a policy management plan for stations with a high vacancy rate due to reduced vitalization.
This study aimed to provide insight into methods for activating management of traditional markets by understanding differences in merchant perception according to whether or not the merchant has participated in management activation education. Analysis of merchants' levels of perception of market activation found that educated merchants had a higher perception of pre-post modernization satisfaction, promotion of traditional market revitalization projects, and post-support changes in sales. In a co-marketing context, educated merchants showed significant differences in onnuri gift certificates, bargain sales, festivals and events, and advertisement promotions. With regards to perception of management performances, educated merchants showed statistically significant higher responses for items such as satisfaction with the current vendor, increased sales, and increased customer awareness. The results in this study may be incorporated into the policy-making processes of the government or local governments in order to revitalize traditional markets, and merchant education for activation of management is deemed to be continuously necessary.
Since the first domestic case of COVID-19 in 2020, social anxiety has caused people to avoid going outside, which has resulted in economic damage to alley commercial districts. However, even in the similar commercial districts, the economic impacts were different depending on the characteristics of the alley districts. This study identifies factors that affect the difference in sales of alleyways after COVID-19 by focusing on alley commercial districts in Seoul. Based on the review of previous studies, a total of 42 variables with six characteristics were constructed, and the principal component analysis was used to reduce the dimensionality of mixed variables. The variables were finally reduced to 12 variables and categorized into seven characteristics. We expect that the results of this study can be used as a basis for analyzing sales differences by standardizing the factors influencing sales in market districts that were previously uncategorized.

This study defines three types of public parking for commercial business, cultural tours, sales and market areas. We compared the Santa Barbara parking system with Korean examples for use in urban revitalization with a proper planning strategy based on district-specific public parking. The results are as follows: 1. The layout and location of public parking entrances need to consider the urban grid and linkages. 2. Public parking should place emphasis on respecting a district's character and user convenience. 3. The success of public parking extends to revitalization of pedestrian paths at target areas.
The The purpose of this study is to have a positive impact on the evaluation of the traditional market revitalization project by discussing the business details and implementation process of the commercial district revitalization project in depth. The research method uses practical methods for traditional market revitalization projects. First, the activation method of the place was examined through the concepts of Oldenburg's 'Third Place' and Carr et al.'s 'Five Demands for Public Space' and the theories related to non-face-to-face transactions were examined. The first study case was the commercial district revitalization project of the Cheongju Global Market Development Project(Seongan-gil Street Shopping Mall and Yukgeori traditional Market), which discussed revitalization of open space, revitalization through reproduction, and revitalization through festivals. The revitalization project through representation is a project to install a symbolic sculpture at the estimated location of the 'Namseokgyo' buried in Yukgeori traditional Market. The revitalization through the festival is the Korea Sale Festa, which is a vibrant business due to increased sales at traditional markets and shopping malls and floating population in open spaces. The second study case was the Cultural Tourism Promotion Project(Hanmin traditional Market), which discussed revitalization through the development of local brands and SNS content. In the conclusion, the relationship between the six projects and commercial district revitalization methods was discussed, and policy recommendations were made, mentioning the importance of reflecting regional characteristics in design planning. We hope that this study will be used to positively evaluate the traditional market revitalization project, showing that stakeholders are working hard to produce positive results within institutional limitations.
Due to the development in industrial technology, changes in consumer behavior and aggravating competition within the industry, it is growing only harder every day to build up a strong brand power. Besides, a brand is supposed to age as time goes by, following a brand life cycle, as it is not a solid, immutable asset but something of a living creature. Therefore, self-renovation and revitalization efforts are needed, in order to incessantly confirm the self existence through the relationship with the consumer. In sum, revitalization operation is needed to renew a brand that has grown trite in the passage of time or due to the change in market condition, so as to bring it back anew to the consumers. This study did not stop at measuring the effect of a design renewal as a short-term assignment, but focused on the long-term brand management following the brand life cycle and aimed to define the effective timing and method of revitalization by comprehending the analysis results of consumer consciousness by analyzing the successful cases of brand revitalization and selecting the research analysis targets. As a result, this study proved that a properly-timed brand revitalization efforts in order to cope in advance with predictable changes in environment, can significantly prevent any drop of brand equity from occurring and then extend the brand life cycle. Also, this study could find that a brand revitalization is not a mere concept of a strategy for a short-term sales increase, but should be a long-term strategy to manage a brand, which must be practiced continuously in the time when the brand life cycle curve starts to fall. This research could also confirm that a superficial design renewal, which changes only the packaging of a brand, peformed in short-term haste, is not of help at all.
Among Japan's agriculture, forestry, fisheries and regional revitalization plans established in June 2018, the key matters related to aquaculture include ① a new perspective on the sponge use system for the development of aquaculture and coastal fisheries, ② a comprehensive strategy for growth and industrialization of aquaculture, and ③ expansion of suitable aquaculture areas. There are four countermeasures including ④ research and development trends. In accordance with these key points, the Japanese government established a comprehensive strategy for aquaculture growth and industrialization by strategically setting aquaculture items in consideration of domestic and international demand, establishing a comprehensive strategy from production to sales and export, and then working in earnest to promote the aquaculture industry. This study analyzes environmental changes surrounding aquaculture in Japan and trends in fish farming and marine products, and summarizes the key points of the June 2018 Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Regional Revitalization Plan to suggest measures that can be utilized in Korea's aquaculture policy.
The average age of CEOs of the small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs) in Korea is 58.8, and discussions are actively underway regarding the support towards the succession companies. Government authorities are also operating a system to support the succession companies, and recently global support is also being demanded. In order to have justification over the support for succession companies, the fact that it greatly contributes to the revitalization of the national economy and the regional economy must be acknowledged in advance. This study analyzed the degree of corporate succession revitalization of the national and regional economy through statistical and empirical analysis. With the purpose to secure the reliability of the analysis, the study has referred to the database of the "Integrated Management System for Small Business Recruitment Project" and the Korea Enterprise Data (KED), which can be the most differentiated aspect compared to the existing research of the past. According to the analysis, it shows that the old companies' performance is significantly higher than the general companies in terms of sales, number of employees, assets, and operating profits⋯etc. The management performance of the old companies (which lasted over 30 years) more than doubles the performance of the start-ups (with less than 10 years of experience) in sales, triples the number of employees, doubles the assets, and more than doubles the operating profit. Thus, it is seen that the contribution to the overall economy is significant. Additionally, as a result of the empirical analysis of the relationship between the regional old companies and the regional economic revitalization, the non-metropolitan area shows better performance than the metropolitan area in terms of the number of employees, assets, borrowings, and rent, which entails policy implications of the polarization between the metropolitan and non-metropolitan areas. In other words, it is found that old companies make a significant contribution to revitalizing the local economy, suggesting that further policies regarding corporate succession are required to support the old companies in the future.
Purpose : Promoting startups has increased in importance in labor market policies since the economic crisis. In Korea, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups is also seeking to revitalize youth startups and traditional markets by moving young stores into idle spaces in traditional markets through 'Project to Support the Activation of Youth Mall'. Research into startups in traditional markets is very limited. Therefore, this study looks at the differences between the management performance of young merchants and senior merchants, and looks at the impact of the business period. Research design, data and methodology : It was divided into youth startup and senior startup based on the age of 40 and startup and nonstartup. Based on these criteria, the company intends to compare and analyze sales and margin rates by setting the sales and margin rates with the management performance of the startup and senior startups. In particular, to look at the feasibility of government funded projects for young merchants, the company will look at the changes in sales and margin rates of young merchants and senior merchants over the period of operation. In this study, the analysis was based on the raw data of the Statistics of traditional market in 2017, and the ANCOVA was used. Results : First of all, the sales volume of stores operated by young merchants, was higher than those operated by senior merchants. Next, the margin ratio does not differ from that of stores that are for young people and those. These findings suggest that the profit structure of stores in traditional markets is similar between young merchants and senior merchants. Third, if you look at the performance of new startups based on one year of business period in more detail, it turns out that young startups have improved in sales and margin rates since startups, while senior startups have no difference. Conclusions : While it means that management performance can be improved through support for young startups, it suggests that there is a limit to supporting senior startups. Therefore, this research indicates that the government support projects centered on youth can contribute to the revitalization of traditional markets.
