  • Many construction projects involve a plethora of safety-related problems that can cause loss of productivity, diminished revenue, time overruns, and legal challenges. Incorporating data collection and analytics methods can help overcome the root causes of many such problems. However, in a dynamic construction workplace collecting data from a large number of resources is not a trivial task and can be costly, while many contractors lack the motivation to incorporate technology in their activities. In this research, an Android-based mobile application, Preemptive Construction Site Safety (PCS2) is developed and tested for real-time location tracking, trajectory prediction, and prevention of potential collisions between workers and site hazards. PCS2 uses ubiquitous mobile technology (smartphones) for positional data collection, and a robust trajectory prediction technique that couples hidden Markov model (HMM) with risk-taking behavior modeling. The effectiveness of PCS2 is evaluated in field experiments where impending collisions are predicted and safety alerts are generated with enough lead time for the user. With further improvement in interface design and underlying mathematical models, PCS2 will have practical benefits in large scale multi-agent construction worksites by significantly reducing the likelihood of proximity-related accidents between workers and equipment.

  • The manual handling of people (MHP) is known to be associated with high incidence of musculoskeletal disorders for aged care staff. Environment-related MHP interventions, such as appropriate seated heights to aid sit-to-stand transfers, can reduce staff injury while improving the patient's mobility. Promoting patient mobility within the manual handling interaction is an endorsed MHP risk control intervention strategy. This article provides a narrative review of the types of MHP environmental controls that can improve mobility, as well as the extent to which these environmental controls are considered in MHP risk management and assessment tools. Although a range of possible environmental interventions exist, current tools only consider these in a limited manner. Development of an assessment tool that more comprehensively covers environmental strategies in MHP risk management could help reduce staff injury and improve resident mobility through auditing existing practices and guiding the design of new and refurbished aged care facilities.

  • This study investigates the virtual reality (VR) simulation to train construction workers for modular construction. Recently, the construction industry has been experiencing a growing demand for modular construction due to a shortage of labors and an increasing social need for safety. While the demand for modular construction has been increasing, construction labors suffer a basic knowledge regarding modular construction. The users of the simulation, developed by Unity program and Oculus Quest 2, experience the removal of hazardous elements at the location whether the modular unit suspended by a crane is lowered, the lowering and assembly of units through crane operation, and the fall from the roof which is the most frequent accidents in modular construction. The simulation was tested by 15 subjects. The effectiveness of the education was measured through a survey on self-efficacy, perceived usefulness, usability, and presence. It was found that the VR training is suitable for educating on the modular construction activities and safety issues related to them. This study also found that perceived usefulness is the factor that has the greatest impact on self-efficacy. This study can contribute to resolving the labor education issues for the deployment of modular construction.

  • Since the mankind started its space mission, the number of artificial space objects has been increasing exponentially. It contains not just the space machines which are in use but the machines which are out of order. Meantime, those dead machines are being a serious danger, a real threat to human's lives and property because of it could re-enter into the earth's atmosphere and fall to the ground causing mega-disaster. As the number of space activities gets growing so far, the re-entry of the space objects will be a lot more happened in the future. Therefore, not just natural space object like asteroids but the artificial space object like artificial satellite and space station can cause the disaster by falling to the ground. To protect our nation and our property, the government has set up the space disaster management center in Korea astronomy and Space science Institute. In this study, we surveyed public's recognition of the space object's re-entry situation and analyzed it to contribute building national space disaster management policy.

  • With ever-change and increasingly competitive business environments, firms strive to employ a variety of marketing strategies and execution in order to survive in the market. Such effects would be paid off in the right way only when management of the firms perform marketing activities focusing on long term effectiveness, which would drive company profits up and keep them for long. Demands of customers are being changed and varied. And in this circumstance, it become a main issue of management that the company should produce and sell products according to the customer demands. With these trends, each company has been concentrating effects on generalization of product development technique and distinction of service lot customer In this result with the advantage of mass marketing and database marketing have been drawing attentions from company. Also the internet connected around the world completely diminished the limit of time and distance and company have enveloped keen competition out of each nation and continent in the world market. To fulfill these demands of customer, they need a concept of eCRM(Web based Customer Relationship Management), and go from selling products and services, or gathering customer requests, up to the phase of solving customer's problem by real time or Previous action. With the help of Internet, the frequency and speed of the problem solving has improved greatly.

  • modern logistics are required to carry out functions such as timely adjustment and swift adaptation to changing patterns, and this leads to the emphasis on forming logistics parks. Logistics parks make profits using the efficiency of time and space. Such logistics parks play an important role in a corporation creating operating profits as well as acting as a method of alternative investment for individuals. Logistics parks no longer simply store materials, but have become a place that plays an important role in various areas of corporate and individual activities, and thus the analysis of the selection of the location of logistics parks and the related characteristics is extremely important. There are many existing studies on the selection of locations of logistics parks but work on the factors related to location selection by industry seem lacking. As such, in the course of this study we have used preceeding studies to draft a questionnaire on which selection factors affect the selection of logistics park location in different industries and conducted empirical analysis of the questionnaire results to uncover the factors that affect the selection of the locations of logistics parks in different industries.

  • This study aimed at working out a practical plan in order that National Quality Award may be helpful to develop enterprises. In line with this aim, this study investigated the cases of foreign countries that evaluate the quality managements of enterprises on the basis of the standard model, and the aftereffect of winning the award, and its influence on management performance. Investigation was focused on the companies that won Quality National Award as a result of quality innovation activities and met with good results since then and finally won Korea Quality Grand Prix 3 years after winning the award, and questionnaire was performed to the directors of the competent authorities. The questionnaire was sent by e-mail, and its questions were made with a help from the advisers of National Quality Award. Questions were mostly focused on four parts, the general states of enterprises, the operation system of National Quality Award, the after effect of winning the award, and management performance shown after winning the award.

  • Aeronautical frequency band is to be internationally protected for aviation safety. Recently, with a rapid growth of an international air traffic, aeronautical frequency band is getting saturated, and thus may causes the interference in the congested frequency band. In this paper, an efficient aeronautical frequency allotment and management policies are proposed for resolving the existing problems in the aeronautical frequency band. The key activities include the review of the aeronautical frequency management and interference mitigation policies in a few important foreign countries such as United States and Japan. This policy study will be contributed for the future air safety in the aeronautical frequency management point of view.

  • Purpose: This study provides an overview of the Product Liability Act which was revised in 2017 and took effect in 2018. It analyzes the effects of the revised Act on corporate management from internal and external perspectives to present coping strategies so that companies can synthetically respond to such effects. Methods: In order to achieve the purpose of this study, experts like companies, academia, governmental institutions, and consultants were invited, and Delphi techniques were applied to derive means, standard deviations, and Content Validity Ratio. Results: In this study, based on two expert questionnaire surveys, strengths and weaknesses of the internal environment of companies and opportunities and threats of the external environment were derived, followed by provision of S/O, W/O, S/T, and W/T strategies. Conclusion: To fundamentally remove the causes of accidents on their products, the relevant companies should strengthen the activities to increase product safety. They shall cooperate with suppliers to arrange the measures to speedily secure safety of consumers.
