Terminal solid solubility of hydrogen of optimized-Zirlo and its effects on hydride reorientation mechanisms under dry storage conditions

  • TSSD, TSSP, and TSSP2 of hydrogen for optimized-Zirlo (Zirlo™) alloy were measured by DSC in the range of 53-457 wppm. Solvus curves of the TSSs are derived and proposed in this study. The results show that the temperature gap between TSSD and TSSP solvus lines of Zirlo™ are similar to those of other zirconium alloys, but another gap between the TSSD and TSSP2 line differs significantly. In particular, the TSSP2 solvus line becomes closer to the TSSD solvus line than to TSSP unlike Zircaloy-4, so ΔTTSSD-TSSP2 of Zirlo™ decreases with decreasing temperature. This implies that hydride reorientation can take place more significantly in Zirlo™ than in Zircaloy-4, and the limited temperature variation of 65 ℃ during the vacuum drying and the cooling-down process may not be sufficient to prevent the triggering of hydride reorientation in Zirlo™ cladding under long-term dry storage.

  • With the increasing popularity of renewable generation systems and the advancement of power electronics, DC distribution systems have recently received considerable research attention. DC distribution has numerous advantages, including reliability, power quality, and efficiency. Owing to these advantages, DC distribution has been applied to data centers and power quality-sensitive electronic load conditions. Because grounding electrodes in DC are much more susceptible to corrosion than in AC, the IT system defined in IEC Standard 60364 may be a good candidate for an earthing method for DC distribution systems. In addition, IEC Standard 61557 specifies the requirements for insulation monitoring devices (IMD) for protection of the IT system, which continuously monitors the insulation resistances between the power lines and the earth. This paper discusses the development and evaluation of IMD to promote the reliability of distribution systems and increase safety of humans and facilities.

  • Vision-based systems for finding road lanes have to operate robustly under a wide variety of environ-mental conditions including large amount of scene clutters. This paper presents a method for finding the lane boundaries by combining a local line extraction method and dynamic programming as a search tool. The line extractor obtains an initial position estimation of road lane boundaries from the noisy edge fragments.   • The measurements were performed to verify experimentally that the voltage arising on a telecommunication line by a power line is due to the induction phenomena because there has been an opinion that the arising voltage on a telecommunication line is not by induction, but by other causality. The voltage appeared on the telecommunication line by way of an electric field or magnetic field generated by the source apparatus that had been artificially made to provide intentional constant high-voltage or current in ELF, that is, 60 Hz as an emulated commercial power.

  • Fatigue strength evaluation was carried out for the core support structure of a low voltage circuit breaker. The impact load acting on the core support was calculated based on the strains measured during operation. A three-dimensional finite element analysis was performed to determine local peak stresses for fatigue evaluation. Fatigue safety factors were calculated using the modified Goodman, Gerber, Soderberg, and modified Findley lines, considering the magnitude of the residual stress and impact load.

  • Now days, the demands of new type hull lines and optimum design in relation with the EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) regulation and eco-friendly high efficiency vessel design are mandatory clauses in Euro financial crises era. Therefore, in correlation with the above, we tried to find the optimum results and revealed the alterations of supporting structure for liftable car deck latch on PCTC. Generally, PCTC (Pure Car & Truck Carrier) design has been performed by 2 pillar space model F. E analysis without vehicle loads on liftable car deck to evaluate the structural adaptability. So, we applied mentioned vehicle loads on pillar and side transverse web on model to compare with not applied model and performed the ultimate strength analysis of improved design for the safety evaluation.

  • According to separation policy between rail infrastructure and operation, the National Railroad Administration was converted to Korea Railroad Cooperation on Jan, 2005. That makes railway service assessment regarded as essential. About this matter, Section 15 of the Framework Act on Rail Industry Development and section 26 of the Rail Business Act shows that the railway service assessment should be conducted every 2 years. The government can officially announce the result and give orders operation company to improve service level. In the first railway service assessment in 2006, the principal railroad lines and stations were investigated. Rail supply service index and customer satisfaction index are introduced. It includes service items of supply, reliability, convenience, safety and customer satisfaction. This study presents the contents of 2006 rail service assessment. Some points of assessment which should be improved are analyzed as well.

  • Recently the construction of railway sections passing the central area of cities and stations under railway lines are increasing, and then it is urgently required to take the countermeasures against the railway vibration and the second-phase noise radiated from it. The most efficient countermeasure, out of technologies developed up to now, is the floating slab track which is the track system isolated from the sub-structure by springs. In other countries, the source technologies for anti-vibration design and vibration isolator - one of key components - have been developed and many installation experiences have been accumulated. However, in Korea, since the system design technology and technologies for key components are not yet developed, the foreign system are being introduced without any adjustment, and the key component, vibration isolator, depends on imports. In this study, floating slab was divided into three spans, $k_{dynamic}$ use by examining reactions and member forces was to ensure safety.

  • Korean trains pass many mountain areas, so the volume of structures like bridge and tunnel has large part of railway lines. Train speed-up naturally needs a straight line in railway, then structures are increasing, and this influences passenger's comfort and the safety of operation, and it needs more track maintenance. The stiffness of bridge and tunnel is higher than the soil in the roadbed in spite of dynamic difference in vibration and displacement. Differences in stiffness have more dynamic effects and increase the deformation and destruction in the track and roadbed. This study will measure periodically to structure's approaches which have very fast track irregularity and analyze dynamic differences and track irregularity near structure's approaches, so realize the cause of track irregularity of structure's approaches and use basic data for reasonably strengthening method of structure's approaches.

  • A TCS(Train Control System) is the core facility to ensure the safety and efficiency of train operations, it is difficult to have interoperability between the TCS suppliers. To ensure the interoperability between TCSs, there is a need for definition, validation and standardization on the system configuration, the functions of subsystems, the interface between subsystems an the system protocol. In this paper, we analyzed the completeness of the KRTCS(Korean Radio based Train Control System) specification, derived supplements what you need to apply the KRTCS specification to new urban lines.
