Study on Solutions to the Heavy Work of Safety Managers at Construction Sites (건설현장 안전관리자의 과중한 서류업무 해소방안 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a way to solve the excessive paperwork of safety managers in domestic construction sites, and to suggest a work efficiency plan that can shorten the time required to prevent safety accidents. First, a function to automatically generate a safety document and find the necessary data is applied using the RPA program. The second is document creation using mobile devices. After safety training, use the Moleil app to keep the training log. Third, to prevent omission of essential safety and health documents, the automatic warning function is activated according to the RPA submission time and sent to the person in charge by e-mail or text. Fourth, the function to find the latest data with high accuracy and speed through 'Google Cloud Search', a search function, was applied.

Effects on the Vehicle Running Speed Analysis according to the Speed Reduction Road Facilities (속도저감형 시설이 차량 주행 속도에 미치는 영향 분석)

  • It has been applied several ways in order to prevent traffic accidents and speed management on the road which is one of very important factors to prevent accidents. In this study, it is analyzed whether the facility such as the flashing and crosswalk, speed cameras and intermittent warning signs affect on a driving deceleration or not. It has been shown that the flashing and crosswalk and speed cameras except intermittent warning signs play a role of reducing the driving speed. The result showed that these traffic safety facilities help to improve the average speed as well as velocity distribution which was derived by the speed deviation even if there were the difference between facilities. Speed limit display does not affect the deceleration of the driver. Therefore, it was founded in this research that there were the driving speed reduction effect due to the facilities on the road. In order to control the driving speed on the road, it is necessary to install facilities with appropriate location and spacing on the road. In addition, place that turns out suppressed speeding through speed management also are required adequate facilities such as speed cameras.

  • The objective of this study is to develop a methodology for evaluating the effectiveness of in-vehicle pedestrian warning systems. Driving Simulator-based experiments were conducted to collect data to represent driver's responsive behavior. The braking frequency, lane change duration, and collision speed were used as measure of effectiveness (MOE) to evaluate the effectiveness. Collision speed data obtained from the simulation experiments were further used to predict pedestrian injury severity. Results demonstrated the effectiveness of warning information systems by reducing the pedestrian injury severity. It is expected that the proposed evaluation methodology and outcomes will be useful in developing various vehicular technologies and relevant policies to enhance pedestrian safety.

Vision-based Real-time Vehicle Detection and Tracking Algorithm for Forward Collision Warning (전방 추돌 경보를 위한 영상 기반 실시간 차량 검출 및 추적 알고리즘)

  • The cause of the majority of vehicle accidents is a safety issue due to the driver's inattention, such as drowsy driving. A forward collision warning system (FCWS) can significantly reduce the number and severity of accidents by detecting the risk of collision with vehicles in front and providing an advanced warning signal to the driver. This paper describes a low power embedded system based FCWS for safety. The algorithm computes time to collision (TTC) through detection, tracking, distance calculation for the vehicle ahead and current vehicle speed information with a single camera. Additionally, in order to operate in real time even in a low-performance embedded system, an optimization technique in the program with high and low levels will be introduced. The system has been tested through the driving video of the vehicle in the embedded system. As a result of using the optimization technique, the execution time was about 170 times faster than that when using the previous non-optimized process.

Evaluation of the Signal Word Cognition using Quantification Methods (수량화 분석을 이용한 신호단어의 인식도 평가)

  • Signal words such as DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION, etc. have been used in order to transmit a potential hazard easily and quickly. But they were applied to a number of the sites without consistency. Thus, this study took Quantification Method and Cluster Analysis in order to judge the signal words corresponding to the urgency of situations, and to analyze whether signal words are used properly or not. According to the result of Quantification Method II signal words were most affected by Understanding, Severity and Likelihood in both student group and industrial worker group. And in Quantification Method III CAUTION corresponded to Immediacy and Understanding whereas NOTICE did to Receptivity, WARNING, DEADLY and DANCER did to Likelihood, Dangerousness and Severity. Finally, Cluster Analysis showed that CAUTION and NOTICE were recognized as similar words.

A Study on the Image DB Construction for the Multi-function Front Looking Camera System Development (다기능 전방 카메라 개발을 위한 영상 DB 구축 방법에 관한 연구)

  • This paper addresses the effective and quantitative image DB construction for the development of front looking camera systems. The automotive industry has expanded the capability of front camera solutions that will help ADAS(Advanced Driver Assistance System) applications targeting Euro NCAP function requirements. These safety functions include AEB(Autonomous Emergency Braking), TSR(Traffic Signal Recognition), LDW(Lane Departure Warning) and FCW(Forward Collision Warning). In order to guarantee real road safety performance, the driving image DB logged under various real road conditions should be used to train core object classifiers and verify the function performance of the camera system. However, the driving image DB would entail an invalid and time consuming task without proper guidelines. The standard working procedures and design factors required for each step to build an effective image DB for reliable automotive front looking camera systems are proposed.

  • Provision of in-vehicle warning information is of keen interest since it can be effectively used to prevent traffic accident on the road. This study evaluates the effectiveness of information provision modalities based on kansei engineering. Various warning information scenarios using different modalities are devised for the evaluation. Statistical data analysis techniques including factor analysis, correlation analysis, and the general linear model are used to assess the user's affect for information modalities. The evaluation result shows that the provision of visual information consisted of 'text and pictogram' leads to higher understandability. The combination of beep sound and voice message' was identified as a more effective modality for auditory warning. In addition, the red color for the blinking warning signal was preferred by users.

  • Aircraft-warning lights are lights that are used to inform pilots in flight about the presence of buildings or dangerous objects. Currently, the light sources of most aircraft-warning lights have been replaced by light-emitting diodes (LEDs). However, the aircraft-warning lights that are installed do not meet the optical performance standards and may cause airplane collisions. Therefore, the use of such light poses a risk to aviation safety. In order to solve this problem, we designed a Fresnel lens with the same luminous intensity distribution ovef $360^{\circ}$ direction; thus, we collimated the light beam from the LED light source with a narrow beam divergence angle in the form of an array of aspheric pieces. After that, we designed and simulated an aircraft-warning-light optical system with a center luminous intensity of 20,000 cd and a vertical divergence angle of $3^{\circ}$ or more by optimizing the lens' tilt and the distance between the LED and the Fresnel lens.

  • There is monitored amount operation variables and controlled by operating conditions and loads at many facilities using gas also chemical plants. The process fault which can be indicated by operators, is occurred when the abnormal state was accumulated continuously owing to physical failure, external disturbance or human error. This is studied a Early Warning System which is to estimate process status by real-time monitoring operation variables and to early warning before it will be occurred process fault.

Design of a Smart Safety Vest Incorporated With Metal Detector Kits for Enhanced Personal Protection

  • Background: Personal protective equipment (PPE) has been designed in such a way to reduce accident rates. Unfortunately, existing PPE is rather ineffective as it is not able to provide warning signals when hazard is around. The integration of intelligent systems is envisaged to increase the efficiency of existing PPE. Methods: This project designed a safety vest incorporated with metal detectors which can provide immediate warning to the field workers when there is metal hazard around. This product has greater freedom of design via smart manufacturing as it involves the assembly of few commercially available parts into a single entity. Briefly, the metal detector is a do it yourself (DIY) kit, and the safety vest is purchasable from any local market. The DIY kit was connected to a copper coil and being sewed into the safety vest. Results: The metal detector induces beeping sound when there is metal hazard around. A total of 121 engineering students were introduced to the prototype before being requested to answer a survey associated with the design. Respondents have rated >3.00/5.00 for the design simplicity, ease of usage, and light weight. Meanwhile, respondents suggested that the design should be further improved by increasing the metal detection range. Conclusion: It is envisaged that the introduction of this smart safety vest will allow the workers to carry out their duties securely by reducing the accident rates. Particularly, such design is expected to reduce workplace accident especially during night time at construction sites where the visibility is low.
