Policy Safety Stock Cost Optimization : Xerox Consumable Supply Chain Case Study (정책적 안전재고의 비용 최적화 : 제록스 소모품 유통공급망 사례연구)

  • Inventory, cost, and the level of service are three interrelated key metrics that most supply chain organizations are striving to optimize. One way to achieve this goal is to create a simulation model to conduct sensitivity analysis and optimization on several different supply chain policies that can be implemented in actual operation. In this paper, a case of Xerox global supply chain modeling and analysis to assess several "what if" scenarios for the consumable policy safety stock is presented. The simulation model, combined with analytical cost model and optimization module, is used to optimize the policy safety stock level to achieve the lowest total value chain cost. It was shown quantitatively that the policy safety stock can be reduced, but it is offset by the inbound premium transportation cost to expedite supplies in shortage, and the outbound premium transportation cost to send supplies to customers via express shipment, requiring fine balance.

  • The semiconductor industry, which relies on global supply chains, has recently been facing longer lead time for material procurement due to supply chain uncertainties. Moreover, since increasing customer satisfaction and reducing inventory costs are in a trade-off relationship, it is challenging to determine the appropriate safety stock level under demand and lead time uncertainties. In this paper, we propose a framework for determining safety stock levels by utilizing the optimization method to determine the optimal safety stock level. Additionally, we employ a linear regression method to analyze customer satisfaction scores and inventory costs based on variations in lead time and demand. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed framework, we compared safety stock levels obtained by the regression equations with those of the conventional method. The numerical experiments demonstrated that the proposed method successfully reduces inventory costs while maintaining the same level of customer satisfaction when lead time increases.

  • Given a bill of materials (BOM) tree T labeled by the breadth first search (BFS) order from node 0 to node n and a general network ${\Im}=(V,A)$, where V={1,2,...,m} is the set of production facilities and A is the set of arcs representing transportation links between any of two facilities, we assume that each node of T stands for not only a component. but also a production stage which is a possible stocking point and operates under a periodic review base-stock policy, We also assume that the random demand which can be achieved by a suitable service level only occurs at the root node 0 of T and has a normal distribution $N({\mu},{\sigma}^2)$. Then our integrated model of facility location problems and safety stock optimization problem (FLP&SSOP) is to identify both the facility locations at which partitioned subtrees of T are produced and the optimal assignment of safety stocks so that the sum of production cost, inventory holding cost, and transportation cost is minimized while meeting the pre-specified service level for the final product. In this paper, we first formulate (FLP&SSOP) as a nonlinear integer programming model and show that it can be reformulated as a 0-1 linear integer programming model with an exponential number of decision variables. We then show that the linear programming relaxation of the reformulated model has an integrality property which guarantees that it can be optimally solved by a column generation method.

  • Railroad rolling stock has long service life and a lot of maintenance cost running on rail by wear and vibration. And it is very important to get optimization of maintenance. This paper want to analyze rolling stock maintenance situation of KORAIL and find out its improvement methods. Especially, the purpose of this paper is to adopt the most effective maintenance period and methods to daily inspection which needs many maintenance manpower in rolling stock. Rolling stock has self-diagnosis function using computer system and the quality of rolling stock has much improved these days but current daily inspection repeat for short period routinely and it is very ineffective. Therefore, the paper adopt improved daily inspection period reflecting the characteristics of rolling stock, and want to secure reliability of rolling stock and minimize maintenance cost.

  • At the Rolling-stock, most important thing is thorough maintenance for safety as a mass transit. Recently, many studies of cost down method and acquisition of high reliability have being progressed with considering of safety. Maintenance cost is closely relative to the preventive maintenance. But generally the preventive maintenance is decided in compliance with an experience. So the study of cost down method at the preventive maintenance is difficult. In this study, many results of effectiveness and optimization for the preventive maintenance are checked. Then., it is possible that efficiency preventive maintenance method will be able to suggest.

  • Supply chain optimization is one of the most important components in the optimization of a company's value chain. This paper considers the problem of designing the supply chain for a product that is represented as an assembly bill of material (BOM). In this problem we are required to identify the locations at which different components of the product arc are produced/assembled. The objective is to minimize the overall cost, which comprises production, inventory holding and transportation costs. We assume that production locations are known and that the inventory policy is a base stock policy. We first formulate the problem as a 0-1 nonlinear integer programming model and show that it can be reformulated as a 0-1 linear integer programming model with an exponential number of decision variables.

  • After the KTX operation Korail has been making great effort to reliability settlement through RCM. Also maintenance cycle and method optimization for normal speed rolling stock field are lively same as high-speed rolling stock. In this paper maintenance techniques for new model electric locomotive are introduced. To find the optimal maintenance method, locomotive inspection cycle for advanced country are examined and other electric locomotive inspection cycle are compared. As a result the present time inspection cycle is totally focusing on safety aspect so the economical efficiency is quite low. Through this research optimal maintenance technique will be accomplished in the end of year 2008.

  • Recent cross-country competition and Chinese steel industry because of the emerging steel industry in Korea is a very difficult situation. Therefore, the steel industry in order to overcome this difficult market environment, the quality, cost competitiveness, enhance customer service levels and enhance international competitiveness through is needed. In this study, the purpose of strengthening the competitiveness of steel companies in order and hit the recovery of raw materials have been developed to optimize the model, developed before and after the results were analyzed. In addition, when applied to other products in order to minimize risk and optimize cutting trial stage of development details of the model is presented in detail. Therefore, the developed model was applied to order the recovery of raw materials hits and significantly improved production planning time has been shortened dramatically. In the present study the contents of other products when properly applied and the competitiveness of companies to improve customer service levels are expected to be helpful.

An Experimental Study on Operation Setting Optimization of Circuit Breaker for Improving Safety on DC Railroad Feeder System (직류철도 급전계통의 안전성 향상을 위한 차단기 동작 최적 설정의 실험적 고찰)

  • This paper presents an experimental study on the optimal settings for the selected DC fault relay (50F) to improve the operating performance for the high-speed circuit breaker on DC feeding system which ensure safety within rolling stock maintenance depot. In this study, current supplied to overhead contact wire was calculated on 1 ms interval to analyze the correction values of DC fault selective relay for the operation of current supply cutout. Particularly, standards for the accurate detection of accidents between an electric railway vehicle and the electric power facilities are shown by investigating the optimal correction values for detection of fault current, and the results indicated that it takes about 213 ms for the DC fault selective relay(50F) to fully open. In the future, the correction values of DC fault selective relay suggested in this paper will be used as the reference values of protective relay for the safe operation of DC electric railroad system such as urban railway.
