Single-Dose Intramuscular Toxicity Test Using No-Pain Pharmacopuncture in Sprague-Dawley Rats

  • Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the potential toxicity of a recently developed and clinically used No-Pain pharmacopuncture (NPP) solution. We also assessed the lethal dose of the NPP agent following a single intramuscular injection in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. Methods: Animals were divided into two groups: the NPP test material group and the normal saline control group. A single intramuscular injection of the NPP agent (1.0 mL/animal) was administered to rats of the NPP test material group. The control group rats received the same volume of normal saline. Both female and male rats were included in each group. All rats were monitored for clinical signs and body weight changes for 14 days after administration of the test substance or saline. At the end of the observation period, a gross necropsy was conducted and localized tolerance at the injection site was analyzed. Results: No mortality was observed in the NPP test material and control groups. Moreover, no test substance-related effects were observed on clinical signs, body weight, necropsy findings, and localized tolerance at the injection site. Conclusion: The approximate lethal dose of the NPP agent is greater than 1.0 mL/animal under the conditions used in this study. Additional toxicity evaluations and clinical studies are needed to confirm the safety of NPP use in clinical practice.

  • Fluidic valve is adopted in APR1400 to control passively the flow rate of cooling water from the safety injection tank. It is necessary to establish independent evaluation guideline for the flow characteristics of fluidic valve in order to secure safety. Three dimensional numerical model for fluidic valve is developed and numerical results are compared with experimental data obtained at KAERI in order to verify numerical simulation. Also influence of the grid number and the turbulence model were investigated. In addition, variation of flow rate is investigated at various elapsed times after valve operating, and flow characteristics are analyzed at low and high flow rate conditions, respectively.

A Numerical Study on the Effect of DVI Nozzle Location on the Thermal Mixing in RVDC

  • Direct safety injection into the reactor vessel downcomer annulus(DVI) is a fundamental feature of the KNGR(Korean Next Generation Reactor) four-train safety injection system. The numerical analysis of thermal mixing of ECC(Emergency Core Cooling) water through DVI with the water in the RVDC(Reactor Vessel Downcomer) annulus has been performed, in order to study the impact of nozzle location on the pressurized thermal shock and safety analysis. The results of this study show that the thermal mixing due to the natural circulation induced by the limiting accident conditions is sufficient to prevent temperature in the RVDC from dropping to the level of concern for PTS. When the DVI nozzle is located right above the cold leg, the temperature distribution at the outlet of flow field is most uniform. The tool used for numerical analysis is CFDS-FLOW3D.

최적계산코드를 이용한 대형 냉각재상실사고시 유량조절기 성능평가에 관한 연구 (Computational Study for the Performance of Fludic Device during LBLOCA using TRAC-M)

  • 한국형 신형원자로1400(APR1400)은 3983MWt급의 2×4 루프 개량형 가압경수로(PWR)로서 대형 냉각재상실사고 발생시 안전주입수의 원자로용기 직접주입(DVI) 방식을 채택하고 있으며, 안전주입수탱크(SIT) 내부에 유량조절기(Fluidic Device, FD)를 장착하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 신형원자로 1400의 안전주입계통에 새로이 적용된 주요 특징 중 하나인 유량조절기에 대하여 최적안전해석코드인 TRAC-M/F90, 3.782버전을 이용한 성능평가 및 민감도 분석을 수행하였다. 연구결과 유량조절기가 안전주입수의 원자로 유입을 적절하게 조절하고 있음을 확인하였으며, 안전주입수탱크 내부의 압축질소체적 감소가 안전 주입수체적 감소에 비하여 노심의 급냉 완료 시점을 빠르게 하였다. 또한 안전주입계통의 전체 저항계수(K factor)가 최소 또는 최대일 때 노심의 급냉 완료 시점은 평균값인 경우보다 다소 늦어졌으나, 피복재 최고온도(PCT)는 상대적으로 큰 차이가 발생하지 않았다.

수치모델을 활용한 지하수 인공함양 대상지의 적정 주입량 및 주입효율 예비 평가 (Preliminary Evaluation of the Optimal Injection Rate and Injection Efficiency of Groundwater Artificial Recharge Site Using Numerical Model)

  • 본연구에서는 가뭄이 빈번히 발생하는 지류 상류 지역에서 농번기에 부족한 물을 확보하기 위하여 평상시 잉여의 물을 지하 대수층에 주입하는 인공함양 방식을 설계함에 앞서 적정 주입량 및 주입효율을 수치모델을 활용하여 평가하고자 하였다. 인공함양 수치모델 대상지역은 홍성군 갈산면 운곡리 일대를 대상으로 하였으며 다양한 공당 주입량 조건과 대수층의 수리적 특성을 고려하여 모델링을 수행한 결과, 연구지역의 공당 적정주입량은 50.0 ㎥/day/공로 평가되었으며 주입효율은 총 주입용량 대비 33.2~81.2%로 예측되었다. 특히, 주입효율은 주입시간이 짧을수록 비선형으로 증가하는 양상을 보였으며 잔류 저류용량은 총 주입용량이 많을수록 증가하여 물부족 시 사용 가능량이 많아지므로 보다 유리할 것으로 보였다. 향후 보다 정확한 함양효율 평가를 위해 현장 실증시험 결과를 활용하여 모델을 검증하고 이를 통해 주입 및 취수에 대한 적정 시나리오를 구축한다면 보다 효율적인 인공함양 시스템의 운영이 가능할 것이다.

Ground Speed Control of a Direct Injection Sprayer

  • A Direct injection -mixing total -flow -control sprayer was developed and evaluated . The system provided precise application rates and minimized operator exposure to chemicals as well as providing a possibility for recycling container so f unused chemicals that can causes environmental contamination. Chemicals were metered and injected proportionally to the diluent flow rate to provide constant concentrations. The main diluent flow was varied in response to changes in travel speed. Experimental variables of the sprayer were the control interval, the sensitivity of flow regulating valve, the tolerance of control object and the sensitivity of the injection pump system. The optimal performance of the flow control system was with an average response time of 8.5 sec at an absolute steady state of error of 0.067 L/min (0.8% of flow rate). The average response time of the injection rate was -0.53 sec and the coefficient of variation (CV) of concentration was 3.2%.

족부족관절 질환에서 주사 치료는 얼마나 효과가 있는가? (How Effective Is the Injection Therapy in Foot and Ankle Disorder?)

  • Evidence-based papers on the treatment of some chronic tendinopathy or ligament lesions using an injection in foot and ankle disorders have been reported, but there are few reports on the treatment of acute ankle ligament injury. On the other hand, some papers have reported a faster return to play for injection therapy that combines RICE (Rest, Icing, Compression, and Elevation) treatment and rehabilitation. Injection therapy can be used as an additional treatment for ankle ligament injury. Rather than having narrow-minded thinking about these treatments, it is important to make efforts to verify the safety and precautions of treatment and recognize them as a category of normal treatment. Continuous analysis and monitoring of these treatments can satisfy patients whose needs are changing rapidly.

유방암 수술 후 동일측 유착관절낭염에 대한 관절강내 주사 치료의 안전성 및 효과 (Safety and Effectiveness of Intra-articular Injection on the Ipsilateral Adhesive Capsulitis after Breast Cancer Surgery)

  • Objective: To confirm the safety of Intra-articular (IA) injection on the ipsilateral adhesive capsulitis (AC) after breast cancer surgery. Methods: Between January 2017 and May 2020, we retrospectively studied 29 patients after breast cancer surgery who underwent IA injection in the glenohumeral joint for AC in aseptic procedure. Results: There were no side effects or complications such as lymphedema or cellulitis in the patients. There was a significant improvement in pain score and range of motion (ROM) at the 1st, 3rd, and 6th months visits compared to the baseline (p<0.05). The presence or absence of axillary lymph node dissection and radiation therapy had no significant difference in improvement of ROM. But, in rotator cuff syndrome (RCS) group, there was a significant difference in improvement of shoulder IR in patients without RCS. Conclusion: IA Injection on the ipsilateral AC after breast cancer surgery was safe and even effective to improve pain and shoulder ROM. Ipsilateral IA injection can be a good treatment for breast cancer surgery patients suffering from AC.

노심보충수탱크의 직접접촉응축에 대한 MARS의 계산능력평가 (ASSESSMENT OF MARS FOR DIRECT CONTACT CONDENSATION IN THE CORE MAKE-UP TANK)

  • This study aimed at assessing the analysis capability of thermal-hydraulic computer code, MARS for the behaviors of the core make-up tank (CMT). The sensitivity study on the nodalization to simulate the CMT was conducted, and the MARS calculations were compared with KAIST experimental data and RELAP5/MOD3.3 calculations. The 12-node model was fixed through a nodalization study to investigate the effect of the number of nodes in the CMT (2-, 4-, 8-, 12-, 16-node). The sensitivity studies on various parameters, such as water subcooling of the CMT, steam pressure, and natural circulation flow were done. MARS calculations were reasonable in the injection time and the effects of several parameters on the CMT behaviors even though the mesh-dependency should be properly treated for reactor applications.

EXPERIMENTAL SIMULATION OF A DIRECT VESSEL INJECTION LINE BREAK OF THE APR1400 WITH THE ATLAS

  • The first-ever integral effect test for simulating a guillotine break of a DVI (Direct Vessel Injection) line of the APR1400 was carried out with the ATLAS (Advanced Thermal-hydraulic Test Loop for Accident Simulation) from the same prototypic pressure and temperature conditions as those of the APR1400. The major thermal hydraulic behaviors during a DVI line break accident were identified and investigated experimentally. A method for estimating the break flow based on a balance between the change in RCS inventory and the injection flow is proposed to overcome a direct break low measurement deficiency. A post-test calculation was performed with a best-estimate safety analysis code MARS 3.1 to examine its prediction capability and to identify any code deficiencies for the thermal hydraulic phenomena occurring during the DVI line break accidents. On the whole, the prediction of the MARS code shows a good agreement with the measured data. However, the code predicted a higher core level than did the data just before a loop seal clearing occurs, leading to no increase in the peak cladding temperature. The code also produced a more rapid decrease in the downcomer water level than was predicted by the data. These observable disagreements are thought to be caused by uncertainties in predicting countercurrent flow or condensation phenomena in a downcomer region. The present integral effect test data will be used to support the present conservative safety analysis methodology and to develop a new best-estimate safety analysis methodology for DVI line break accidents of the APR1400.
