The Risk Rating System for Noise-induced Hearing Loss in Korean Manufacturing Sites Based on the 2009 Survey on Work Environments

  • Objectives: In Korea, an average of 258 workers claim compensation for their noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) on an annual basis. Indeed, hearing disorder ranks first in the number of diagnoses made by occupational medical check-ups. Against this backdrop, this study analyzed the impact of 19 types of noise-generating machines and equipment on the sound pressure levels in workplaces and NIHL occurrence based on a 2009 national survey on work environments. Methods: Through this analysis, a series of statistical models were built to determine posterior probabilities for each worksite with an aim to present risk ratings for noise levels at work. Results: It was found that air compressors and grinding machines came in first and second, respectively in the number of installed noise-generating machines and equipment. However, there was no direct relationship between workplace noise and NIHL among workers since noise-control equipment and protective gear had been in place. By building a logistic regression model and neural network, statistical models were set to identify the influence of the noise-generating machines and equipment on workplace noise levels and NIHL occurrence. Conclusion: This study offered NIHL prevention measures which are fit for the worksites in each risk grade.

  • 화학재난 발생시 현장대응 요원들은 사건 원인물질의 성상과 잔류오염 농도를 신속 정확하게 파악해야 한다. 또한 화학재난 현장에서의 적절한 대응절차 진행을 위해서는 화학물질의 성상과 오염농도 확인은 필수적이다. 이를 위해 현장에서 사용하는 각 장비의 특징을 알아보고자 한다. 현장대응장비는 모든 화학물질을 확인할 수 없으며, 각 장비별로 물질탐지에 제한적이다. 장비별 물질탐지 범위와 상호보완성을 고려해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 현장 활용장비인 간이탐지 킷과 검지관식 탐지장비, 전자식 탐지장비의 신속한 현장 활용을 위한 대응절차를 마련하여 현장대응에 도움을 주고자 한다.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide the basis for establishing policies and recommendations to the legal system to ensure children's safety related to playground equipment and toys. The present legal system, including national inspections and safety requirements were reviewed both in Korea and other advanced countries. Several issues were found related to accident prevention and improvement of playground and toy safety in Korea. Recommendations were made for the development of educational safety programs for children, parents, teachers, consumers, industry, administrators, and policy makers.

The strategy for customer satisfaction by choosing attractive quality characteristic is not enough for risk reduction in view of producer. This paper presents a method for choosing quality characteristics and risk characteristics by integrating QFD based on quality requirements and AHP based on safety requirements, also shows its application for complex equipment.

Analysis of School Safety Education Utilization with Educational Game Elements

  • In order to create and utilize experiential equipment that can be effectively used in school safety education, this paper uses the Korean Safety Education Association's CPR simulator to utilize the elements of educational games: goals, rules, competition, challenge, fantasy, safety, and fun. When the content that combines game elements with general educational equipment was utilized in school education sites, significant results were obtained on the effectiveness of education with active participation of students.

LCD 제조공정의 이온화 장치에 대한 전리방사선 지역노출특성 분석 (Analysis of Local Exposure Levels of Radiation Emitted from Soft X-ray Ionizers in LCD Manufacturing Processes)

  • Objectives: This study analyzed the local exposure levels of radiation emitted from the equipment with soft X-ray ionizers to investigate the radiation exposure levels in Liquid Crystal Display(LCD) manufacturing processes. Methods: This study measured the local radiation levels for the equipment installed in two LCD manufacturing companies. The equipment were installed at diverse processes and equipped with various number of ionizers. The local radiation levels were measured on the surface of the equipment by using direct reading equipment, and the measurements were converted into annual effective dose by considering the radiation exposure time of workers. Statistical analyses were performed to investigate the radiation exposure characteristics. Results: Annual effective doses for 97.6% of the equipment being measured were less than 1 mSv. However, the range of annual effective doses was 0.004 mSv ~ 2.167 mSv, which indicated a large variation among the equipment. Statistical analyses of the study found that this large variation was raised due to improper shielding of the equipment rather than process and/or equipment characteristics. To pinpoint the cause of this large variation in annual effective dose, this study improved the shielding of the equipment being radiated over 1 mSv and found that their average effective dose was reduced from 1.604 mSv to 0.126 mSv after shielding improvement. Conclusions: Relatively high exposure levels of radiation were observed in some equipment where their shielding were insufficiently thick and/or sealed. This finding implies that the shielding of the equipment is an important engineering countermeasure to control the radiation exposure levels in industries.

치과기공사의 안전교육 실태 및 상해발생 조사연구 -서울·경기 지역을 중심으로 (Study of the safety education condition and injury occurrence in dental technicians- in Seoul and Gyeonggi)

  • Purpose: It is intended to raise awareness of importance of protective equipment and necessity of safety education by examining the actual condition of measures to deal with accident, occurrence of injury, whether safety education is received or not, the actual condition of wearing protective equipment, and working environment of dental lab and dental technician. Methods: A self-administered survey was conducted for a total of 150 dental technologists. A chi-squared test and independent-samples t-test was carried out by using SPSS WIN Program (version 12.0) in order to analyze the actual condition of safety education according to work experience and position and whether injury occurred according to whether to wear protective equipment. Significance level was 0.05. Results: With regard to whether injury occurred according to whether safety education was received, there was 'receiving the safety education-injured (71.8%)', 'not receiving the safety education-injured (79.7%)', 'receiving the safety education-not injured (28.2%)', and 'not receiving the safety education-not injured (20.3%)'. The statistical results of injury occurrence according to safety education were not significant. With regard to whether to be injured according work experience, there was 'less than 10 years-injured (68.4%)', 'less than 10 years- not injured (31.6%)', '10 years or above-injured (89.1%)', and '10 years or above-not injured (10.9%)'. The statistical results of injury occurrence according to work experience were significant (p<0.001). Conclusion: Dental lab and specialized agencies should continue to be interested in periodic safety training, recommending wearing protective equipment and personal protective equipment support and so on.

소형 차선도색 자동화 장비의 성능 평가에 관한 연구 (Performance Evaluation of the Small Automatic Line Marking Equipment)

  • 차선의 야간 시인성 향상을 위하여 차선도색 자동화 장비에 대한 개발 필요성이 대두되고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 차선도색 장비의 성능을 생산성, 안전성 및 품질과 같은 다양한 측면에서 평가할 수 있는 방법론을 제시하고, 현장실험을 바탕으로 수동식 장비와 자동식 장비의 성능을 종합적으로 비교 및 분석하고자 한다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 차선도색 장비의 성능을 생산성, 안전성 및 품질 측면에서 분석할 수 있는 방법론을 제시하였다. 생산성 측면에서 차선도색 자동화 장비는 기존 수동식 장비와 비교하여 156.3%의 생산성 달성비율을 얻을 수 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 전문가 자문 및 문헌고찰을 바탕으로, 차선도색 단위작업의 안전성 요인 12개와 품질 요인 10개를 도출하였다. AHP 기법을 활용하여 안전성 및 품질 요인별 중요도를 산정하였다. 안전성 및 품질 측면에서 자동화 장비 개발로 인한 성능평가 결과, 안전성 향상률 49.8%와 품질 향상률 47.2%를 기대할 수 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구에서 제시한 성능평가 방법론을 통하여 차선도색 장비에 대한 객관적이고 정량적인 개발 타당성 및 기대효과 제시가 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

유도루프식 열차제어시스템 안전무결성등급 할당 (An Allocation of Safety Integrity Level to Inductive Loop type Train Control System)

  • 논문은 유도 루프식 열차제어시스템에 대하여 준 정량적 안전무결성 등급(Safety Integrity Level : SIL)할당 방법을 적용하여 안전무결성 등급을 할당한 결과이다. 유도 루프식 열차제어시스템은 ATS장치, 지상ATP장치, 차상ATP장치, 지상ATO장치, 차상ATO 지상장치 하드웨어 및 소프트웨어로 구성되어 있으며, 안전무결성 등급 할당은 각 서브시스템에 대한 안전무결성 등급을 의미한다. 준 정량적 방법의 세 원칙에 근거하여, 열차제어시스템을 구성하고 있는 서브시스템에 대한 안전무결성 등급을 할당하였다.
