  • Fire inside light railway transit(LRT) was simulated for various fire scenarios using CFD analysis in order to assess the safety of passengers. Considered in the present paper are the effects of locations of fire, a fire size, an operation of ventilation system and an opening time of door on evolution of temperature and smoke concentration inside the LRT. For fire simulation, fire cells releasing heat and smoke corresponding to fire size were positioned at the location of fire. From the results, it is seen that the ventilation system and the opening time of door were the most important factors on temperature and smoke concentration inside the LRT

  • PSD is automatically opened and closed when subway train arrive on the station. This system was designed to control electric automatic system. These doors will provide passenger safety, energy saving and a good environment in subway. The monitoring and control systems of PSD are configured so that they can be operated in automatic mode in connection with ATO through the composite control panel in the station control room. The objective of this paper is to obtain high reliability that is essential for monitoring and control systems of PSD. The power supply is based on protection circuit using DC power bridge from two UPS. Also, stable communication system consists of CAN communication line redundancy and RF cross protection algorithm. Monitoring state display results show the validity of the proposed high reliability monitoring and control systems of PSD.

  • In this paper, design and construction process for the standardized electric motor car according to standard specification is described. Aluminum extrusion profiles and power and control system made domestically are used in the electric motor car. Also, plug-sliding door system for noise reduction and automatic train control system are developed and applied. Through the development of the electric motor car, most electric and control systems can be substituted by domestic standard systems, and safety and reliability of electric motor cars can be secured.

  • Plug-in type door is installed in recently designed tube. It is world wide trend to fulfill the customer's demand. But, plug-in door need widely gap between doorway and platform and it is raise an serious accident. Therefore, newly designed train must have safety device like a sliding step to prevent incident. This paper present about development process for sliding step. Trend of sliding step, development plan, course, technical description, and etc. will be included in this paper.

  • The service running of driverless rail vehicle has been required by various social and commercial issue. Currently, the new domestic line between Bu-san and Gim-hae is plan to be provided the LRV(Light Rail Vehicle) with driverless operation firstly in domestic service. These driverless vehicle have some major properties to make it lower the operating and maintenance cost, however on the other side, it unavoidably raise some potential hazard to make it lower the passenger safety because it is hard to take care immediately in emergency state during vehicle running. Therefore it is highly requested that we should consider various conditions at design stage to manufacture and operate the safest vehicle. Therefore, in this paper, we will survey the design concept of vehicle interior facilities based on the previous experience, (1) The difference of interior facilities between normal and driverless vehicle, (2) design and operational concept of passenger side door function to find out best application for domestic line driverless vehicle.

측면충돌모의시험 방법 개발과 응용 (Development of Side Impact Crash Simulation Methodology and Its Applications)

  • Occupant protection in the side impact of a car became one of the most important issues of car crashworthiness due to high injury level in a side impact crash. An accurate simulation of the side impact crash is an essential tool for the reduction of development time and cost for side impact safety system. This paper describes a new test methodology that can accurately generate the crash pulses of a vehicle and a door in a very cost-effective manner, and then evaluates the injury values of the dummy for the various sled pulses. This test methodology is simple and easy to approach because the door velocity is controlled by the hydraulic actuator and brake and the seat velocity is only adjusted by the friction force of the hydraulic brake. The superiority of the proposed test methodology is proven by the evaluation of dummy's injury values according to the change of the pressure of the hydraulic brake and by the application as a tool for the development of side airbag.

Detecting Doors Edges in Diverse Environments for Visually Disabled People

  • It is a challenge for visually impaired people to access unfamiliar environments independently, hence the quality of life is reduced, and safety of life is compromised. An accurate and reliable door detection system comprising of way finding and indoor navigation can be beneficial for a large number of autonomous and mobile applications for visually impaired people. This paper illustrates an image-based door detection scheme for visually impaired people using stable features (edges and corners) including color averaging and image resizing. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme shows a significant improvement when compared with existing scheme.

Survey of Radiation Shielding Design Goals and Workload Based on Radiation Safety Report: Tomotherapy Vault

  • The purpose of this study was to perform a survey of the radiation shielding design goals (P) and workload (W) based on the radiation safety reports concerned with structural shielding design for the IMRT treatment technique in Tomotherapy vaults. The values of the P and W factors as well as of a verified concrete thickness of the ceiling, bottom, sidewalls (sidewall-1 and sidewall-2), and door have been obtained from radiation safety reports for a total of 16 out of 20 vaults. The recommended and most widely used report for P values was the NCRP No. 151 report, which stated that the P factor in controlled and uncontrolled areas was 0.1 and 0.02 mSv/week, respectively. The range of the W factor was 600~14,720 Gy/week. The absorbed dose delivered per patient was 2~3 Gy. The maximum number of patients treated per day was 10~70. The quality assurance (QA) dose was 100~1,000 Gy/week. Fifteen values of the IMRT factor (F) were mostly used but a maximum of 20 values was also used. The concrete thickness for primary structures including the ceiling, bottom, sidewalls, and door was sufficient for radiation shielding. The P and W factors affect the calculation of the structural shielding design, and several parameters, such as the absorbed dose, patients, QA dose, days and F factor can be varied according to the type of shielding structure. To ensure the safety of the radiation shielding, it is necessary to use the NCRP No. 151 report for the standard recommendation values.

성능위주설계에서 화재위험성 예측 과정의 문제점 및 개선방안 (The Problems and Improvements of Process to Predict Fire Risk of a Building in Performance Based Design)

  • Performance based design(PBD) is the method to make a fire safety design against them after predicting the factors of fire risk in a building. Therefore, predicting fire risk in a building is very important process in PBD. For predicting fire risk of a building, an engineer of PBD must consider various factors such as ignition location, ignition point, ignition source, first ignited item, second ignited item, flash over, the state of door and fire suppression system. But, it is difficult to trust fire safety capacity of the design because the process in Korea' PBD is unprofessional and unreasonable. This paper had surveyed some cases of PBD that had been made in Korea to find the problems of the process to predict fire risk. And it have proposed the improvements of process to predict fire risk of a building.

전철 고상홈 승강장안전시스템 개발시험 (A Study of Safety System for High Platform)

  • The subway station platform is designed in high platform for quick getting in/out which is against ordinary train platform. Out of 370 Metropolitan subway station platforms, subway stations which have cured platform are about 38%. In these cases, as the distance between subway and platform would become longer, handicapped people's wheelchairs, baby carriers and old and feeble people can feel uncomfortable when they are getting in and out Also, passengers often fall into track because of the height difference between high platform and track. And if passengers go down on track to pick up something fallen, they sometime fail to climb up and happen to hit against subway. To solve out these kind of inconveniences and prevent accidents, we have developed subway station high platform safety system and finished tests. This safety system is consisted of safety block, screened door and safety wall. This study explained the composition and function of this system and presented the test result to identify its performance.
