  • Flight data from operational quality assurance programs plays a significant role in identifying factors as one of the key data in the development of proactive and preventive aviation safety management technologies based on data. The list of events in the flight quality assurance program recommended by the FAA differs from the list set and managed by airlines themselves and is based on the frequency of occurrence rather than the severity of individual events. In this work, we compared the list of FOQA events presented by the FAA with the list of some domestic airlines. We also investigate the severity priorities of events for airline captains and conduct research on how to improve the operation of the operational quality assurance program.

  • Product liability(PL) is the producer's compensation to customers for damage incurred by product defects. This paper studies on the organizational culture, promotion process, system construction, system level, product safety review, product safety assurance, system operation, and its effectiveness and necessity of recognition for the PL system of small and medium-sized firms in Gangwon-Do province. The results show that the firms have product safety regulations, but the number of firms which its employees understand the regulations is less than the number of firms which do not understand. Also the number of firms which is preparing PL prevention and insurance, and counterplan for accidents seems to be not in large numbers.

  • In the verification and validation procedures regarding the safety-critical software of nuclear power plants for the attainment of the requisite license from the regulatory body, it is difficult to judge the safety and dependability of the development, implementation, and validation activities through a simple reading and review of the documentation. Therefore, these activities, especially safety assurance activities, require systematic evaluation techniques to determine that software faults are acceptable level. In this study, a safety case methodology is applied in an assessment of the level and depth of the results of the development and validation of a manufacturer in its targeting of the bistable processor of a digital reactor protection system, and the evaluation results are analyzed. This study confirms the possibility of an effective supplementation of the existing safety demonstration method through the application of the employed safety case methodology.

  • Quality Assurance Principles must be effectively implemented in developments and in use of safety critical software in nuclear industry. Brief definitions related to computer software and quality assurance were defined and several methods for evaluating software quality were proposed herewith. Independent verification and validation was suggested to assure the quality of safety critical software.

  • Construction incidents, mechanisms and causes in Geotechnical Engineering have been closely reviewed for the safety assurance during design and construction stages. The safety assurance is clearly related to the observational method in which design is reviewed during construction and contingency actions are undertaken successfully to minimise any potential failures. The observational method has been extensively applied for the construction of subways underground structures, dams and many important Civil Engineering projects in the past 20 years. But the number of serious construction incidents are growing for the past several decades. Therefore present development of observational method and improvement techniques are introduced with some case histories.

  • Korea augmentation satellite system (KASS) is the Korean satellite based augmentation system (SBAS) developed by ministry of land, infrastructure, and transport (MOLIT) since 2014. Since KASS is the safety critical system that can affect to the safety of airplane, the software of KASS is developed according to the DO178B software level induced from safety analysis. In case of KASS control station (KCS), most of the software of KCS get assigned software level E in DO178B. In that case, ECSS-Q-ST-80C category D is assigned as a software product assurance standard. In this paper, the software related standard ECSS-E-ST-40C, ECSS-Q-HB-80-04A are analyzed to satisfy ECSS-Q-ST-80C and as a result the software product assurance activities regarding software life cycle and the software quality model, metric is proposed for the product assurance of the KCS software.

  • Automated vehicles (AVs) are coming to our roadways. In practice, there are still several challenges that can impede the AV sensors are polluted on various road conditions. In this paper, we propose a strategy for V2E performance assurance technology using Kano model. We are developing the vehicle sensor cleaning system about the three types of commonly used sensors: camera, radar, and LiDAR. Surveys were carried out in 30 AV's experts on quality characteristics about V2E performance assurance technology. As a result, the Kano model developed to verify a major requirement of autonomous vehicle's sensor cleaning system. It is expected that the Kano model will be actively used to verify the importance of V2E development strategy.
