  • Revision work on the Codex Classification of Foods and Animal Feeds was undertaken in 2007 and presently, revisions for most food groups have been completed. For vegetables, the work was conducted during 2014-2017, and the final draft revision was adopted by the $40^{th}$ Codex Alimentarius Commission (2017). Here, the revised classification of vegetable commodities is introduced in order to be utilized in various food-related fields, in particular, food safety regulation. The revised classification is briefly summarized as follows: Codex classified vegetables into 10 groups (Group 009-018): bulb vegetables (Group 009), Brassica vegetables (except Brassica leafy vegetables) (Group 010), fruiting vegetables, Cucurbits (Group 011), fruiting vegetables, other than Cucurbits (Group 012), leafy vegetables (including Brassica leafy vegetables) (Group 013), legume vegetables (Group 014), pulses (Group 015), root and tuber vegetables (Group 016), stalk and stem vegetables (Group 017) and edible fungi (Group 018). The groups are further divided into a total of 33 subgroups. In the Classification, 430 different commodity codes are assigned to vegetable commodities. Meanwhile, Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) does not include potatoes, beans and mushrooms within a vegetable group. In addition, the MFDS divides one vegetable group into six subgroups including flowerhead Brassicas, leafy vegetables, stalk and stem vegetables, root and tuber vegetables, fruiting vegetables, Cucurbits, and fruiting vegetables other than Cucurbits. Therefore, care is needed in using the Codex Classification.

  • The pulmonary system is a highly complex system that can only be understood by integrating its functional and structural aspects. Hence, in vivo animal models are generally used for pathological studies of pulmonary diseases and the evaluation of inhalation toxicity. However, to reduce the number of animals used in experimentation and with the consideration of animal welfare, alternative methods have been extensively developed. Notably, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) have agreed to prohibit animal testing after 2030. Therefore, the latest advances in biotechnology are revolutionizing the approach to developing in vitro inhalation models. For example, lung organ-on-a-chip (OoC) and organoid models have been intensively studied alongside advancements in three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting and microfluidic systems. These modeling systems can more precisely imitate the complex biological environment compared to traditional in vivo animal experiments. This review paper addresses multiple aspects of the recent in vitro modeling systems of lung OoC and organoids. It includes discussions on the use of endothelial cells, epithelial cells, and fibroblasts composed of lung alveoli generated from pluripotent stem cells or cancer cells. Moreover, it covers lung air-liquid interface (ALI) systems, transwell membrane materials, and in silico models using artificial intelligence (AI) for the establishment and evaluation of in vitro pulmonary systems.

  • The extracellular matrix, which provides the structural and biochemical support of surrounding cells, is a cell physiological modulator that controls cell division and differentiation. In the bio sector, the company produces Scapold, a three-dimensional support for tissue engineering, and cultivates stem cells in the produced Scapold to be transplanted into animals to assess tissue regeneration. This depends on components such as collagen in the tissue. Therefore, it is very important to identify the inclusion rate and distribution of components in the tissue, and the data are obtained by analyzing the color of the dyed tissue image. The process from image collection to analysis is costly, and the data collected and analyzed are managed in different formats by different research institutions. Therefore, data integration management and analysis results search are not being performed. In this paper, we establish a database that can manage relevant bigdata in an integrated manner, and propose a bio-image integrated management and retrieval system that can be searched based on color, an important analytical measure in this field of study.

  • Modern statistics is used in many fields; however many users face difficulties in understanding statistical concepts. On the other hand, elementary school curriculum covers stem and leaf plot, pie chart, charts for proportional data as well as descriptive statistics including the mean. We find that an "intuitive" statistical package focused on 5-8 graders for statistical education will help future statistics users understand statistical concepts at earlier stages of their lives.

  • Disaggregation model has recently become a major technique in the field of synthetic generation and the model is possibly one of the most widely acepted tools in stochastic hydrology. The application of disaggregation model is evaluated with the streamflow data at the Waegwan and Hyunpung stage gaugin station on the main stem of the Nakdong River. The disaggregation process of annual streamflow data and the method of parameter estimation for the model is reviewed and the statistical analysis of the generated monthly streamflows such as a computation of moment estimation of covariance and correlogram analysis is made. The results, disaggregated monthly streamflow, obtained by Disaggregation Basic Model for single site are compared with the historical streamflow data and also with the other model, Thomas-Fiering Model. The generated monthly streamflow data by two models have been investigated and verified by comparision of mean and standard deviation between the historical and generated data.

  • Sox protein family, a transcription factor, has been found in whole animal kingdom, and contains a sequence-specific DNA binding domain called high mobility group domain (HMG). The Sox protein family based on the amino acid sequence of HMG domain was classified into 10 groups. Each group of Sox family shows significant conservation from nematode to human. The HMG domain affect to various developmental cell differentiation through binding to enhancer and regulating other transcription factors. Recently, many molecular biologists focus their research on the illustration of Sox-related disease, evolution and phylogeny. Especially, stem cell research with Sox gene family is indispensable field for understanding of their biological functions. The understanding of Sox genes may contribute to understand their role in human genetic disease and whole animal evolution.

  • Keyword indexed in multidisciplinary journals show trends about science and technology innovation. Nature and Science were selected as multidisciplinary journals for our analysis. In order to reduce the effect of plurality of keyword, stemming algorithm were implemented. After this process, we fitted growth curve of keyword (stem) following bass model, which is a well-known model in diffusion process. Bass model is useful for expressing growth pattern by assuming innovative and imitative activities in innovation spreading. In addition, we construct keyword co-occurrence network and calculate network measures such as centrality indices and local clustering coefficient. Based on network metrics and yearly frequency of keyword, time series analysis was conducted for obtaining statistical causality between these measures. For some cases, local clustering coefficient seems to Granger-cause yearly frequency of keyword. We expect that local clustering coefficient could be a supportive indicator of emerging science and technology.
