Performance Analysis of ASK-SSB and PSK-SSB Modulation Format in High-Speed and High-Density WDM Transmission Systems (고속 고밀도 WDM 광전송 시스템에서의 ASK-SSB와 PSK-SSB 변조 방식의 성능 분석)

  • This research investigates the performance of the optical transmissions systems using the SSB modulation format The focus was on the spectral efficiency of the WDM systems and the transmission penalties due to the fiber nonlinearities. By investigating the performance obtained with ideal SSB signal, we set the upper limit of the performance which can be obtained by SSB technology. Furthermore, we investigated the performance obtainable with SSB signals which can be generated with realizable devices. Since SSB formats are more susceptible to the fiber nonlinearities, SSB formats exhibited inferior transmission performances compared to the DSB format. However, within the 500~1000 km transmission range, which is the focus of this research, it was found that the WDM systems with 12.5 GHz channel spacings might benefit from the SSB modulation techniques.

Role of C-terminal 7 Amino Acids of N4SSB Protein in Its in vivo Activity (N4SSB 단백질의 C-말단기의 7개의 아미노산이 N4SSB 단백질의 in vivo 활성에 미치는 영향)

  • Bacteriophage N4, a lytic phage specific for Esherichia coli K12 strain encodes single-stranded DNA-binding protein, N4SSB (bacteriophage N4-coded single-stranded DNA-binding protein). N4SSB protein is originally identified as a protein required for N4 DNA replication. N4SSB protein is also required for N4 late transcription, which is catalyzed by E. coli ${\sigma}^{70}$ RNA polymerase. N4 late transcription does not occur until N4SSB protein is synthesized. Recently it is reported that N4SSB protein is essential for N4 DNA recombination. Therefore N 4SSB protein is a multifunctional protein required for N4 DNA replication, late transcription, and N4 DNA recombination. In this study, a variety of mutant N4SSB proteins containing internal deletions or substitutions were constructed to define and characterize domains important for N4 DNA replication, late transcription, and N4 DNA recombination. Test for the ill vivo activity of these mutant N4SSBs for N4 DNA replication, late transcription, and N4 DNA recombination was examined. The results suggest that C-terminal 7 amino acid residues are important for the activity of N4SSB. Three lysine residues, which are contained in this region play important roles on N4SSB activity.

Multiple-Relay-assisted SSB SFBC SC-FDMA Transmission System (다중중계기 기반의 SSB SFBC SC-FDMA 시스템)

  • This paper proposes a multiple-relay-assisted single side band (SSB) space frequency block code (SFBC) single carrier (SC)-frequency division multiple access (FDMA) system and measures the performance of SSB SFBC SC-FDMA transmission system with the signal-to-noise power ratio SNR) between relays and a destination station. As we know, the performance of relay-assisted transmission systems can be easily improved by re-transmitting to the destination station after applying block code to the recovered transmitted signals of relays. In this paper, the performance improvement of the relay-assisted SSB SC-FDMA system can be obtained without any significant increase of system computational complexity by implementing block code with the complex conjugates symmetric characteristic of SSB system. The simulation result shows that the SNR performance of the proposed multiple-relay-assisted SSB SFBC SC-FDMA system is about 4 dB better than the performance of the single-relay-assisted SSB SC-FDMA system at the symbol error rate of 10-2.

  • In this paper, we propose a differential fault analysis on SSB having same structure in encryption and decryption proposed in 2011. The target algorithm was designed using advanced encryption standard and has advantage about hardware implementations. The differential fault analysis is one of side channel attacks, combination of the fault injection attacks with the differential cryptanalysis. Because SSB is suitable for hardware, it must be secure for the differential fault analysis. However, using proposed differential fault attack in this paper, we can recover the 128 bit secret key of SSB through only one random byte fault injection and an exhausted search of $2^8$. This is the first cryptanalytic result on SSB having same structure in encryption and decryption.

  • In this paper, we propose an OFDM-Based SSB System using DCT and DHT transform. The proposed system presents the same waveform as the SSB modulation. The proposed system generates SSB spectrum which are USB and LSB spectrum, also the proposed system can transmit PAM signal through USB and the other PAM signal through LSB. Additionally, we propose how to resolve the center frequency interference problem between USB and LSB. We confirm the simulation result by MATLAB program. The simulation result show the proposed system can transmit PAM signal through only half of spectrum of conventional OFDM system.

  • It is necessary to apply SSB modulation method with high bandwidth efficiency to the DS-CDMA mobile communication systems in order to accommodate the increasing number of voice users as well as the broad band and high data rate service in the future. Even though the bandwidth efficiency increases if SSB modulation is applied to BPSK-DS/CDMA, its performance gets degraded because of the increased multiple access interference. Therefore for eliminating the increased multiple access interference, the SSB/BPSK-DS/CDMA with successive interference canceller(SIC) is proposed and its performance and capacity are analyzed. With the limited system bandwidth, it is shown that the SSB/BPSK-DS/CDMA with SIC can accommodate more capacity than the conventional BPSK-DS/CDMA with SIC.

  • In this paper, additional data transmission scheme was proposed based on SSB-OFDM Communication system which was know as efficient technique for bandwidth, because it used only single side band instead of double side band. When sending additional data which should be well spreaded for low power characteristics and error robustness. Gold code was selected for spreading code because it has excellent low-cross correlation characteristics. Through computer simulation, the validity was proved that proposed system is well worked with SSB-OFDM system.

  • The conventional RZ-SSB demodulator consists of a limiter, FM demodulator and a linearizer. Since the conventional linearizer which cancels the high-order distortions must include Hilbert transformer, the performance of the demodulator are determined by the Hilbert transformer which is very complicated to realize in aeronautical telecommunication. This paper describes a method of designing RZ-SSB demodulator without Hilbert transformer. Since avionics systems are able to eliminate the inherent disadvantages in RZ-SSB, the results of this paper suggest that the RZ-SSB demodulator without Hilbert transformer is suitable for aeronautical telecommunication transceiver systems used in HF band.

Food Group and Dietary Nutrient Intakes by Sugar-Sweetened Beverage Intake Level in Korean High School Students Using the Data from 2007~2015 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2007~2015 국민건강영양조사를 이용한 고등학생의 가당음료 섭취 수준에 따른 식품군 및 영양 섭취 실태)

  • This study examined the food group and dietary nutrient intakes by sugar-sweetened beverage(SSB) intake level in high school students aged 15~18 years(n=2,377) using the 2007~2015 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Subjects were classified into three groups by SSB(included carbonated drinks, sports drinks, and caffeinated drinks that contained added sugars) intake level obtained from 24-hour recall method: SSB 1(SSB intake 0 g/d), SSB 2(0 g/d < SSB intake < 50th percentile) and SSB 3(SSB intake ≥ 50th percentile). Result of daily intakes of SSB were 160.6±10.5 g/d for boys and 98.6±7.1 g/d for girls and it increased for boys(p<0.0001) and girls(p=0.0280) by year. The highest intakes were carbonated drinks followed by fruit juices for boys and girls. Intakes of carbonated drinks increased as 2.7 times for boys(p<0.0001) and 1.6 times for girls between 2007 and 2015 year. Daily intakes of vegetables were the lowest in SSB 3 of three groups for boys and girls(p<0.0001), and those of fruits were lower in SSB 2 and SSB 3 than SSB 1 for boys(p=0.0013). Daily intakes of milk & milk products decreased toward SSB 3 group for boys(p<0.0001) while those were the lowest in SSB 3 of three groups for girls. Daily intakes of dietary fiber(21.3~25.3%) and calcium(49.6~59.8%) were very low compared to the dietary reference intakes. Percentage of daily intakes compared to the dietary reference intakes increased for energy for boys and girls(p<0.0001) while decreased for vitamin C toward SSB 3 group for boys(p<0.0001) and girls(p=0.0382). Those of calcium were the lowest in SSB 3 of three groups for boys(p<0.0001) and girls(p=0.0008). Ratio of excess intakes of energy/fat increased toward SSB 3 group for boys and girls(p=0.0002). Ratio of calcium deficiency was not different among groups but that was very high(85.9~92.5%). Therefore, it should be emphasized to reduce SSB intakes in order to improve diversity in food group and dietary nutrient intakes among high school students through dietary education and government support.

Design of Improved DFT-s-SSB OFDM and Spectral Efficiency in Multiuser Environment (개선된 DFT-s-SSB OFDM 설계와 다수 사용자 환경에서의 스펙트럼 효율)

  • This paper proposes an improved discrete Fourier transform spread single sideband(DFT-s-SSB) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) system that solves the problems of conventional DFT-s-SSB OFDM systems. Conventional DFT-s-SSB systems use pulse amplitude modulation(PAM) for applying SSB modulation. The higher the modulation level, the worse is the BER performance. Further, transmission is possible only through the lower sideband(LSB) spectrum. When transmitting using the LSB and upper sideband(USB) spectra simultaneously, interference occurs and spectrum recovery is not performed correctly. To solve this problem, the proposed system applies the 2/3 convolution coding to improve the bit error rate(BER) performance, adjusts the DFT size, and selects the USB spectrum to utilize the remaining spectrum resources. In addition, when using this system in an environment that supports multiuser or limited bandwidth, it uses only half of the spectrum; therefore, it can utilize the remaining spectrum resources and improve the spectral efficiency.
