The cable cooling through installing the cooling pipe along the transmission cable becomes universal in foreign leading countries, especially in Japan, and, there are so many study results inside and outside of the country. However, the remarkable study result for cooling method of cable splice part is not achieved in spite of its importance. This paper is, therefore, carrys out detailed heat transfer analysis of existing 154kV underground cable-splice, depending on the insulation thickness variation when it is installed in manhole of tunnel whose temperature is maintained as $10^{\circ}C$ using refrigerator. This paper study also the cooling method of underground cable splice based on this result.
This study consists of static and fatigue tests to evaluate the behavior on the field splice joint of longitudinal rib in orthotropic steel deck specimens. Specifically, static and influence surface tests are performed for the stress distribution at the scallop area and high-strength bolt connection of longitudinal rib to examine the existence of handhole cover plate and the effect of eccentric loads. The ultimate strength of the field splice joint of longitudinal rib is obtained. In fatigue tests, cracks are observed at the scallop in the lower level test and the catastrophic failure of longitudinal rib is occurred following the failure of handhole cover plate in the higher level test. This study gives a basis for the better understanding of the field splice joint of longitudinal rib.

Tensile strength (stress) of bar splice is important in the research of mechanical behavior of reinforced concrete structures-beam, column etc.- with bar splice. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the flexural behavior - deflection of beam specimens, strain of main bars - of reinforced concrete beam with Lock Joint Coupler. To make a comparative research, reinforced concrete beam specimens with normal deformed bar and lap splice are tested and analyzed. Test results, Comparing a deflection of three types flexural specimens, a flexural specimen with Lock Joint Coupler is 40% greater than the other flexural specimens. At the center of flexural specimen, the strain of main bar(D29) with lock joint coupler is 50% less, and vice versa, at the point of 14cm far from the center of flexural specimen, the strain of main bar(D29) with lock joint coupler is 9% larger than the strain of main bar(D29) which calculated using the classical flexure theory. A discords, between a deflection behavior of the flexural specimens and a strain of the main bar, are caused by the difference of strain between the lock joint coupler and main bar, near the lock joint coupler. So, additional research is need to verify as stated above discords.

Column specimens were constructed with main parameters significantly affecting the strength of the compression lap splice, such as lap length, spacing of lapped bars, amount and location of transverse reinforcements, and concrete strength. An experimental study has been conducted with column specimens in concrete strength of 40 to 60 MPa. Diameters of lapped reinforcing bars are 22 mm. An axial load was monotonically applied to the column specimens. All specimens failed in a brittle sudden manner and cover concrete was blasted out at maximum load. Compression lap splice strengths of specimens were evaluated from strains measured at the beginning of the lap length. Effects of the main parameters on the strengths of compression lap splice are assessed. Similarly to strengths of tension lap slice, the compression splice strength is found to be affected by lap length, spacing of lapped bars, transverse reinforcements.

This paper describes the safety assessment of power cable splices connecting different sized 6/10[kV] class power cables. To assess the safety, AC withstand voltage tests, partial discharge tests and impulse tests were carried out to the cable splice specimens and thermal rise due to overload and cross section of joint were examined as well. As a result, a breakdown due to the $4.5[U_0](27[kV_{ac}])$ application could not found for 5 minutes. Under $1.73[U_0](10.4[kV_{ac}])$ application, partial discharges of 4~8[pC] were detected. In impulse tests, all the specimens withstood to the standard waveforms of $75[kV_{peak}](1.2{\times}50[{\mu}s])$ without any breakdowns. In addition, the temperature on the splice rose by $3[^{\circ}C]$ when the 200[A] flew through the splice for 20minutes, however the thermal rise of $3[^{\circ}C]$ was considered due to the atmospheric temperature. After all the electrical tests, the cross section of the splice was visually examined. The conditions of the conductors of both $185[mm^2]$ and $240[mm^2]$ were good.

An experimental study was conducted to evaluate the bond performance of reinforcing bars embedded in high-strength concrete. Four bond specimens and ten beam splice specimens using concrete with compressive strength of 246kgf/$cm^2$ and 64lkgf/$cm^2$ were tested. The effect of several variables on basic development length and compressive strength of concrete is discussed in splice specimens. The test results showed that the current trend in concrete specification of making the splice length longer to compensate for having smaller cover and spacing may not be an effective approach.

The influence of lap splice of longitudinal bars in the plastic hinge zone on the nonlinear behavior characteristics of RC piers has been investigated through the scale model tests. The seismic performance of bridge piers with lap splice is found to be insufficient due to the premature bond failure. On the other hand it is confirmed that the preventing lap splice in the plastic hinge zone enhance the seismic performance considerably even without the seismic details of transverse reinforcements. Bases on these experimental results new seismic detailing concept appropriate to moderate seismicity region has been proposed.

Headed bars have used to the anchoring of the tension or compression longitudinal bars and of the shear reinforcing bars. Recently, lap splices of headed bars are attempted to the joints of precast concrete members and to the connections between old and new concrete members. Previous Michael's experimental research showed that confinement details had an effect on the lap splice performances of headed bars. In this study, the lap splice performances of headed bars(D25) with lap length and confinement details are evaluated through the experimental works. Four specimens, of which variables were the lap length of headed bar and the type of confine details, were tested for the performance evaluation on lap splice. Test results show that the lap length confinement reinforcement improve the performance of lap splice.

Optical fiber splice closure serves to protect connection parts from external environment. Moreover, it functions as a connection, junction, and distribution in diverse surroundings such as aerial, underground, duct, and pole. In this research, first, the optical fiber splice closure, its configuration, and the design problem were briefly investigated. Second, the design and application for in-line cable closure were studied to satisfy its construction and technical features. The injection molding conditions and optimal design were conducted to save time and cost during the manufacturing process. Third, methods to minimize loss via of optical fiber cable while strongly fixing optical fiber cable with optical cable holder to prevent fracture were researched, and tests such as perfect air tightness and mechanical and environmental performance were conducted.

This paper describes the characteristics of partial discharge generated by conducting particle in cable splice using ultrasonic method. For simulating partial discharges generated by defects, outer semi conductor of cable splice as ring share electrode was used. The conductive particle was attached on the surface of cable insulator(XLPE) to examine the affection of conducting particles in cable splice. The correlation between the partial discharge quantity and the magnitude of the ultrasonic signal was investigated as the number, length, diameter and alignment of particle when applied voltage increased.
