  • The gravitational radiation capture between unequal mass black holes without spins is investigated with numerical relativistic simulations, and compared with the Post-Newtonian approximations. The parabolic approximation which assumes that the gravitational radiation from a weakly hyperbolic orbit is the same as that from the parabolic orbit is adopted. Using the radiated energies from the parabolic orbit simulations, we have obtained the impact parameters (b) of the gravitational radiation captures for weakly hyperbolic orbits with respect to the initial energy. The most energetic encounters occur around the boundary between the direct merging and the fly-by orbits, and we find that several percent of the total ADM initial energy can be emitted at the peak. The equal mass BHs emit more energies than unequal mass BHs at the same initial orbital angular momentum in the case of the fly-by orbits. The impact parameters obtained with numerical relativity deviate from those in Post-Newtonian when the encounter is very strong ($b{\leq}100M$), and the deviations are more conspicuous at the high mass ratio.

  • Ceramium riosmenae sp. nov. is described from Baja California Sur, Mexico based on morphological and molecular data. The new species is characterized by erect thalli only, penetrating rhizoids on Gracilaria, 7-8 periaxial cells, five cortical initials per periaxial cell, complete cortication throughout, an average of 11-12 segments between branching points, rare adventitious branchlets, and cruciate tetrasporangia. Although C. riosmenae sp. nov. is similar to C. interruptum, C. sinicola, and C. codicola reported from Baja California Sur, Mexico in size and habit, it differs from these species in the number of cortical initials, habit, degree of cortication, host, and the shape of rhizoidal tips. C. riosmenae is separated from C. interruptum with interrupted cortication and four cortical initials from C. sinicola with spins near the apex and incomplete cortication near the base and from C. codicola with bulbous rhizoids on Codium. Our rbcL sequences reveal sufficient sequence divergence (2.4-3.9%) between C. riosmenae and C. interruptum, C. sinicola, and C. codicola to warrant species recognition and to separate C. riosmenae from these species on a phylogenetic tree.

  • In this paper, we designed the authentication system for home network service and applied it to actual sensor nodes. SNEP protocol of SPINS provides confidentiality of data and authentication. We achieved authentication key, encryption and decryption applied RCS encryption algorithm of SNEP. In addition, we used pair-wise key pre-distribution for prevention of authentication sniffing in wireless sensor network. The experiment environment consists of a base station receiving data and sensor nodes sending data. Each sensor nodes sends both the data and encrypted authentication key to the base station. The experiences had shown that the malfunction doesn't happen in communication among other groups. And we confirmed in tests that the system is secure when a sensor having malicious propose is added.

  • Organometallic complexes containing unpaired spins, such as metalloporphyrin or metallophthalocyanine, have extensively studied with increasing interests of their promising model systems in spintronic applications. Additionally, the use of these complexes as an acceptor molecule in chemical sensors has recently received great attentions. In this presentation, we have investigated adsorption of nitric oxide (NO) molecules at Co-porphyrin molecules on Au(111) surfaces with scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy at low temperature. At the location of Co atom in Co-porphyrin molecules, we could observe a Kondo resonance state near Fermi energy in density of states (DOS) before exposing NO molecules and the Kondo resonance state was disappeared after NO exposing because the electronic spin structure of Co-porphyrin were modified by forming a cobalt-NO bonding. Furthermore, we could locally control the chemical reaction of NO dissociations from NO-CoTPP by electron injections via STM probe. After dissociation of NO molecules, the Kondo resonance state was recovered in density of state. With a help of density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we could understand that the modified electronic structures for NO-Co-porphyrin could be occurred by metal-ligand hybridization and the dissociation mechanisms of NO can be explained in terms of the resonant tunneling process via molecular orbitals.

  • Cantilever-detected high-frequency electron spin resonance (ESR) is a powerful method of sub-terahertz and terahertz ESR spectroscopy for a tiny magnetic sample at low temperature. In this technique, a small magnetization change associated with ESR transition is detected as deflection of a sample-mounted cantilever. So far, we have succeeded in ESR detection at 370 GHz using a commercial piezoresistive microcantilever. The spin sensitivity was estimated to ${\sim}10^{12}$ spins/gauss. In order to further increase the sensitivity, we adopt a fiber-optic-based detection system using a Fabry-Perot interferometer in place of piezoresistive system. Fabry-Perot cavity is formed between an optical-fiber end and microcantilever surface, and a change in the interference signal, corresponding to the cantilever deflection, is sensitively detected. This system is suitable for low-temperature and high-magnetic-field experiments because of its compact setup and less heat dissipation. In this study, performance of Fabry-Perot interferometer is evaluated, and its application to cantilever-detected ESR measurement is described.

  • The low energy excitations of spin waves (SWR) in thin films can be used for determination of the surface anisotropy constant and the nonhomogeneities of magnetization in the close-to-surface layer. The dispersion relation in SWR is sensitive on the geometry of experiment. We report on temperature dependence of surface magnetic anisotropy energy constant in magnetic semiconductor thin films of$ CdCr_{2-2x}In_{2x}Se_4$ at spin glass state. Samples were deposited by rf sputtering technique on Corning glass substrate in controlled temperature conditions. Coexistence of the infinite ferromagnetic network (IFN) and finite spin slusters (FSC) in spin glass state (SG) is know phenomena. Some behavior typical for long range magnetic ordering is expected in samples at SG state. The spin wave resonance experiment (microwave spectrometer at X-band) with excited surface modes was applied to describe the energy state of surface spins. We determined the surface magnetic anisotropy energy constant versus temperature using the surface inhomogeneities model of magnetic thin films. It was found that two components contribute to the surface magnetic anisotropy energy. One originates from the exchange interaction term due to the lack of translation symmetry for surface spin as well as from the originates from the exchange interaction term due to the lack of translation symmetry for surface spin as well as from the stray field of the surface roughness. The second one comes from the demagnetizing field of close-to surface layer with grad M. Both term linearly decrease when temperature is increased from 5 to 123 K, but dominant contribution is from the first component.

  • In this paper a single-wheeled robot called GYROBO is built and its hardware is implemented. The single-wheeled robot is similar to a rolling disk relying on gyroscopic motions to maintain its balance. The GYROBO consists of three actuators: a spin motor a tilt motor, and a drive motor. The spin motor spins a flywheel at a high rate so that it provides the balancing stability to upright the robot. The tilt motor controls steering of the robot by gyroscopic effect. The drive motor makes forward accelerated motion to the robot. Several models are designed. Experimental works of the GYROBO to turn and move forward have been presented.

  • The U.S. music market is a lucrative market for many foreign musicians due to its sheer size and it continues to play a leading role in the world music industry. However, it is a challenge to gain entry into that market and an even greater challenge to achieve success and fame within it. In fact, changes in the media paradigm have allowed for musicians to be able to independently produce their own songs and promote them globally. Some scholars address that the media paradigm shifting from traditional outlets to new outlets gives a chance to bypass traditional gatekeepers when entering the U.S. music market. Based on this scenario, this article examined two songs from Korean singer, Psy: Gangnam Style and Gentleman as a single case study. Utilizing Google Trends as a source of information, this study examined how each song's recognition among American music fans was different based on radio spins on Top 40 commercial radio stations. This article sheds new light on radio, which has been neglected due to the media paradigm shift, and presents how radio programmers are part of a complicated gatekeeping process which ultimately decides which songs are to gain popularity.
