  • The purpose of this study is to predict future land use using Landsat images through assessing the effect of spatial scale and resolution in applying CA (Cellular Automata)-Markov technique. The scale for areas ranging from $31.26km^2$ to $84.48km^2$ showed about 11% difference of overall accuracies. Among the five spatial resolutions (10m, 30m, 50m, 100m, 150m), 30m resolution showed the best result in the prediction of area and spatial distribution of urban areas. Based on the results, the 2004 land use by CA-Markov was predicted using 1996 and 2001 land use data and compared with the 2004 land use by maximum likelihood classification. After that, future land uses of 2030, 2060 and 2090 were predicted and the results showed a tendency of gradual increase in urban area and high decrease in forest area.

  • Unplanned land use, that is, unplanned development, causes various negative externalities. In the past, Korea has experienced significant socio-economic costs due to reckless development centered on the boundary between urban and non-urban areas.. Unplanned land use can be viewed as a result of the interaction of various factors.. Therefore, it is difficult to develop in areas where unplanned land use occurs intensively. It is necessary to strengthen legal and institutional measures so that negative externalities do not persis. In this study, we present a spatial analysis methodology to effectively find spatial clusters where unplanned land use is concentrated. By demonstrating and applying this to individual development activities that occurred in Asan City, we examine the usefulness of information to support decision making when establishing mid-to-long-term growth management strategies at the local government level.

  • As the predominant mode of vertical urban development in China, mixed-use complexes provide the optimal case for the research of sustainable and vertical urbanism. This paper reviews three typical mixed-use complexes with various vertical space systems in Shanghai via the combination of field observation, questionnaires and software analysis. It then proceeds to determine which vertical space system is most effective for encouraging sustainable vertical urban development from the perspective of spatial efficiency. Finally, it concludes with an evaluation of the relative capabilities of the design features of a mixed-use complex: to create external dimensional-connections, to create multiple internal connections, and to organize overall composite functions.

  • Geo-spatial information system technology and cartographic modeling techniques were used as a way to Improve the land use planning process. Off-road vehicle(ORV) trails, timber harvest sites, timber haul mads and wildlife ruffed grouse habitats areas should be allocated together in the Wayne National Forest in the United States. Automated spatial cartographic models were developed to resolve the conflicts of the multiple land use allocation. The techniques of descriptive and prescriptive modeling made the multiple land use allocation efficient and effective.

  • Mobile source emissions are important inputs to photochemical air quality models. Since most mobile source emissions are calculated at the county-level, these emission should be geographically allocated to the computational grid cells of a photochemical air quality model prior to running the model. The traditional method for the spatial allocation of these emissions has been to use a "spatial surrogate indicator" such as population, since grid-specific emission calculations are very labor-intensive and expensive, plus the necessary data are often not available for such grid resolutions. Accordingly, new spatial surrogate indicators for mobile source emissions(specifically for highway emissions) were developed using Geographic Information Systems(GIS) tools due to the spatially variable nature of mobile source emissions. These newly developed spatial surrogate indicators appear to be more appropriate for the allocation of highway emissions than the population surrogate indicator. It was also revealed that the conventional spatial allocation method underestimates the maximum levels of air pollutant emmissions.mmissions.

  • This is based on the AGENT-LUC model framework. Luangprabang Province has the largest percentage of shifting cultivation area in Laos PDR. The model simulates the spatial and temporal patterns of the shifting cultivation in the study area, using a GIS database while the total area of shifting cultivation is controlled by supply and demand balance of food. The model simulation period is from 1990 to 1999, at a spatial resolution of 500m. The results are evaluated using statistical data and remote sensing images. Through the validation, it is concluded that the trends simulated agrees to that of statistical data and the spatial and temporal patterns are also replicated satisfactorily.

  • The major reason that spatial data warehousing has attracted a great deal of attention in business GIS in recent years is due to the wide availability of huge amount of spatial data and the imminent need for fuming such data into useful geographic information. Therefore, this research has been focused on designing and implementing the pilot tested system for spatial decision making. The purpose of the system is to predict targeted marketing area by discriminating the customers by using both transaction quantity and the number of customer using credit card in department store. Moreover, the pilot tested system of this research provides OLAP tools for interactive analysis of multidimensional data of geographically various granularities, which facilitate effective spatial data mining. focused on the analysis methodology, the case study is aiming to use GIS and clustering for knowledge discovery. Especially, the importance of this study is in the use of snowflake schema model capabilities for GIS framework.

  • Recently, research on city gas demand is increasing by reflecting the characteristics of each region. The similarity of the social structure of the adjacent region and the density of the supply infrastructure induce spatial correlation with the clustering that has a microscopic relationship between regions. Accordingly, as a result of analyzing the spatial correlation after dividing the demand for city gas for civilian use into a total of 54 regions based on the jurisdiction of 34 city gas companies, it was confirmed that there was a positive spatial correlation from a global and local perspective. In this study, the demand for city gas for civilian use for 54 regions from January 2014 to December 2022 was composed of panel data, and the spatial panel regression analysis and the general panel regression analysis were compared, and it was found that the spatial error model (SEM) was the most suitable model. This presents policy and practical implications by confirming that the demand for city gas for civilian use in one region has a significant relationship with the adjacent region.

  • Urban land use planning is the most important core-part, and it is the start and synthetical plan of the other part, in the urban planning. For the desirable urban land use planning draw out the spatial locational character and change of urban land use. The propose of tills study is building methodology of Parcel-based Urban Land use Information Svstem(P-bULlS) and it's apphcation methodology that can be used urban planning or land use planning. To this end, each and all of the land parcels of Kangnam area was analyzed. P-bULIS should be able to easily analyze the spatial locational character and change of land use in the region. And It should be able to the qualitative, quantitative and spatial analysis, and spatial multi-variate statistical analysis can be done at relatively low cost by linking the software of statics to P-bULlS.

  • The usage of this paper is to analyze the characteristics of architectural publicity expressed in the spaces of mixed-use facilities in Japan. The research method was as follows: 1) preparatory study and literature research review to extract the elements of architectural publicity 2) A survey, to check architectural publicity elements 3) Based on the elements of architectural publicity, each mixed-use facility was evaluated; 4) Spaces of the facilities were classified based on Kevin Lynch's. The Image of the City element. The results show that the mixed-use facilities Include aspects of "space use aspect" and "space structural aspect". Second, the entrance areas of the facilities were characterized by strengthened spatial legibility and sense of area. Third, the paths were characterized by visual openness, accessibility, inter-relatedness, and space amenity, Fourth, the spaces that perform certain functions within the facilities were characterized by improved space amenity, convenience, and social interchange. Fifth, the nodes were characterized by increased social interchange and spatial transferability. Sixth, the landmark spaces were characterized by improved spatial legibility.
