Carbon Electrodes in Capacitive Deionization Process (정전기적 흡·탈착 공정에서의 탄소 전극)

  • With the world population's continuous growth and urban industrialization, capacitive deionization (CDI) has been proposed as a next-generation water treatment technology to augment the supply of water. As a future water treatment method, CDI attracts significant attention because it offers small energy consumption and low environmental impact in comparison to conventional methods. Carbon electrodes, which have large surface area and high conductivity, are mainly used as electrode materials of choice for the removal of ions in water. A variety of carbon materials have been investigated, including their adsorption-desorption behavior in accordance to the specific surface area and pore size distribution. In this review, we analyzed and highlighted these carbon materials and looked at the impact of pore size distribution to the overall CDI efficiency. Finally, we propose an optimal condition in the interplay between micropores and mesopores in order to provide the best electrosorption property for these carbon electrodes.

Thermochromic Property of Tungsten Doped VO2 Prepared by Hydrothermal Method (수열합성법으로 제조된 텅스텐이 도핑된 VO2의 열변색 특성)

  • Vanadium oxide ($VO_2$) and tungsten-doped vanadium oxide (W-$VO_2$) powder, well known as thermochromic materials, were prepared from vanadium pentoxide ($V_2O_5$) and oxalic acid dihydrate by hydrothermal and calcination process. The crystal structure and thermochromic property of samples were analyzed using FE-SEM, XRD, XPS, DSC, and UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy. With increasing the doping amount of W, the phase transition temperature of W-$VO_2$ sample decreased from $70^{\circ}C$ to $42^{\circ}C$. When heating W-$VO_2$ sample above the phase transition temperature, the UV-Vis-NIR spectrum was not changed in the visible range and shifted towards a low transparency in the full name (NIR) region.

  • The emergence of cable TV, satellite broadcasting and IPTV provides viewers with a variety of TV programs. However, viewers' desire for watching their favorite TV program at convenient time has increased because of insufficient spare time. As an increase in smart phone market has accelerated an entry into "the age of smart network media" since 2009, mobile media suggests services connected to other digital devices. Recently, there has been growing interest in TV controling system of smart phone. Therefore, the present study aims to provide an concept of the smart phone application which recommends contents of TV program by analyzing personal watching pattern. To suggest detailed direction of the interaction and UI design, we analyzed previous research and examples of TV controlling applications and products. In addition, public opinion survey was carried out to rationalize this study and suggest suitable UI structure.

  • A rapid increase of the elderly population and changes in the social structure, family type and lifestyle bring us to the moment for considering the various aspects of supporting the elderly including the elderly housing facilities. Traditionally it is considered as a merit for a son to support parents in his own house. Hut recently the elderly increasingly want to live independently without support from their children. To satisfy these needs, new housing facilities for the elderly were developed by private non-profit foundations. A number of outstanding housing facilities for the elderly have been built in the last five years. These facilities show significant progress in housing for the elderly. Unfortunately, there u e no standard design checklists or guidelines for housing for the elderly available in Korea. The housing facilities were built based on foreign design guidelines or architect's experience. This research aims to develop an affordable design checklist that can meet the needs of the Korean elderly lifestyle. This study evaluated the senior residential facilities using Woo's checklist which consolidated the guidelines available here and abroad. As the result of this study, we presented the checklist subject in upper group $25\%, middle group, lower group $25\% distribution and 6, 5, 4, categories in order to importance. When designing the future senior residential facilities, a constraint can be made based on the scope and financial factors of the facility first and the determine how extensive the application of the checklist should be.

  • KVN phase Calibrator Survey(KVNCS)는 VLBI 관측 시 대기의 불규칙한 수증기 분포로 인한 visibility 위상의 불규칙한 변화를 보정하기 위해 도입되는 phase-referencing 기법 등에서 필수요소인 위상보정 calibrator를 얻기 위한 연구이다. Phase-referencing 기법을 이용하여 위상을 보정하기 위해서는 대상 천체의 근접한 곳에 비교적 compact한 calibrator가 존재해야 한다. 또한 Asaki et al.(1996)에 의하면 대기의 coherence structure가 유지되기 위해서는 두 천체가 적어도 $5^{\circ}$ 이내의 분리각을 가져야 한다. 위상보정 calibrator에 대한 연구는 주로 2, 8GHz 대역에서 진행되어 왔고 최근에는 22GHz에서 VLBI 관측이 진행되고 있지만 천구상의 특정 영역에 국한되거나 calibrator들 간의 분리각이 여전히 크다. KVNCS는 천구상에서 calibrator의 분포를 좀 더 고르게 하고 더 많은 calibrator를 얻어 적어도 $5^{\circ}$ 이내의 분리각을 구현하고자 한다. 먼저, 단일경을 이용하여 KVNCS의 대상을 확보하기위하여 이들의 플럭스를 정확히 측정하였다. 2, 8GHz 대역에서 관측된 VLBA(Very Long Baseline Array) Calibrator Survey(VCS) 목록을 기초로 power-law를 가정하여 22GHz에서 100mJy 이상일 것으로 예상되는 천체 2503개를 KVNCS 단일경 연구의 후보로 선정하였다. KVN 연세와 울산 전파망원경경을 이용하여 2009년 12월부터 2011년 3월까지 2298개의 플럭스 측정 관측을 진행하여 22GHz에서 약 77%, 43GHz에서 약 23%의 검출률을 얻었다. 또한 이 천체들의 공간분포도 $5^{\circ}$의 분리각을 만족하는 것을 확인하였다. 앞으로 KVNCS 단일경 결과를 활용하여 KVN 각 사이트의 위치 정보를 비롯하여 22GHz KVN VLBI 관측을 통해 KVN 위상보정 calibrator를 확보 할 계획이다.

Well aligned carbon nanotubes grown on a large area Si substrate by thermal CVD

  • we have grown vertically aligned carbon nanotubes on a large area of Co-Ni codeposited Si substrates by thermal chemical vapor deposition using $C_2H_2$ gas. The carbon nanotubes grown by the thermal chemical vapor deposition are multi-wall structure, and the wall suface of nanotubes is covered with defective carbons or carbonaceous particles. The carbon nanotubes range from 50 to 120 nm in diameter and about 130 ${\mu}m$ in length at $950\;^{\circ}C$. Steric hindrance between nanotubes at an initial stage of the growth forces nanotubes to align vertically. The turn-on voltage was about 0.8 $V/{\mu}m$ with a current density of 0.1 ${\mu}A/cm^2$ and emission current reveals the Fowler-Nordheim mode.

Inverted π Feeding PIFA for Gain Improvement for the Mobile Phone (이득 증가를 위한 휴대 단말기용 역 파이 급전 PIFA)

  • It is shown that inverted ${\pi}$ feeder affects the gain improvement for the internal antenna of mobile phone. Generation of current on the inverted ${\pi}$ feeder, by the modification of conventional feeding structure for the PIFA and IFA, can apply T matching theory to the new feeder. Therefore, inverted ${\pi}$ feeder based on the T matching theory makes higher radiation resistance, and also increases the gain. To verify inverted ${\pi}$ feeding effect, feeder is applied to GSM/DCS dual band conventional PIFA, and measured return loss and patterns. By measurement, it's shown that this new feeding antenna has $0.23{\sim}0.84$ dB higher average gain for GSM band and $0.01{\sim}1.74$ dB higher average gain for DCS band than conventional fed PIFA without resonant frequency change.

  • In this paper, new beam-forming array antenna is proposed. The proposed beam-forming array antenna has control ability for beam-direction/width by employing low loss reconfigurable power divide and three-dimensional array structure. The reconfigurable power divider is key idea in the proposed antenna, because it has reconfigurable RF power distribution ability to each antenna. And, for research and verification of the proposed antenna, 3-dimensional beam-forming array antenna is implemented, and the experimental results show that the proposed antenna has various radiation modes from 1:1 to 1:N by adjusting RF power distribution.

  • In this paper, we developed a prototype model accident management SMART-Navigation project. In order to develop a prototype model, we analyzed the status of maritime data exchange standard and procedure. We developed accident management prototype application schema, feature catalog and portrayal catalog in accordance with S-100 standard data model development procedure by collecting requirements related services and referring to related standards. In order to verify accident management prototype model, we test data set based on Gwang-yang Port. The prototype model and test data verified verification software, and it was confirmed that the designated symbol was displayed at the correct position through the S-100 simple viewer.

  • Along with the fast development of electronics, the demands of portable electronics and wireless sensors are growing rapidly. The need for self-powering materials capable of powering the electrical devices attached to them is increasing, The piezoelectric effect of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) can be used for this purpose. PVDF has a special crystal structure consisting of a ${\beta}$-phase that can produce piezoelectricity. In this paper, multilayer PVDF films were fabricated to increase the ${\beta}$-phase content. A solution of 10% concentration N;N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) in PVDF (PVDF/DMAc) was used to fabricate the films via spin coating technique with the following optimum process parameters: a spin rate of 850 rpm, spin time of 60 s, drying temperature of $60^{\circ}C$, and drying time of 30 min, Compared with single-layer PVDF films, the multilayer films exhibited higher ${\beta}$-phase content. The ${\beta}$-phase content of the films increased gradually with increasing number of layers until 4, Maximum ratio of ${\beta}$-phase content was 7.72.
