In this study, compaction evaluating program based on ASTM critria is developed bu analyzing the results of laboratory tests. And the laboratory tests such as compaction test, triaxial test and resonance column test of subgrade soils are performed to develop compaction management methodology at seven test sites. Especially, to figure out chararteristic with changing compactive efforts, the test was carried out at five levels of compactive efforts at each soil sample. Database was set up from the test results. With the methodology using mechanical property - the elastic modulus, the gap between road design and management and road construction management is narrowed. The regression equation of G/$G_{max}$ is proposed at each strain level of subgrade soils according to AASHTO criteria, and the relationship between fundamental properties of soil mass and degree of compaction is derived as well. The development of compaction management and field compaction management method is proposed by the elastic modulus based on mechanical tests.
This study was performed to investigate the effect of foliar feeding as the fertilization on creeping benrgrass green. Research results have showed that the visual quality of bentgrass as well as shoot density and chlorophyll index dramatically improved after foliar feeding. Shoot density of bent grass in foliar based fertilization was 2.8 ea/$cm^2$ higher than that of the liquid based fertilization during the experiment period, moreover that the foliar feeding is more effective to alleviate shoot density during the rainy season in summer. Results showed that foliar feeding was key role to achieve the stable visual quality, chlorophyll index and maintained Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) throughout the year in addition to get fast recovery after aeration and dry spot. These were consistent with the previous research of foliar feeding which directly provided nutrient to the turfgrass leaf thus increased turfgrass growth within a short time. It is projected to be a especially adequate management program during the hot summer season in which the nutrition feeding is low. However, root growth was no significant difference between foliar based fertilization and liquid based fertilization. Golf Course managers also should consider about the number of frequent fertilizing. Lastly, it was no big change in chemical property by soil foliar based fertilization which is meaning of preventing the soil salinization, meanwhile, it is prone to reach the nutrient deficiency. It hopes to be settled as the general fertilization in golf course of Korea, since there are many advantages of foliar based fertilization program. It is suggested to study more practical process of foliar feeding through the further research.
There are much damage of people and property because of heavy rain every year. Especially, there are problem to major facility such as dam, bridge, road, tunnel, and industrial complex in the ground stability. So the counter plan for landslide or ground failure must be necessary In the study, the technique of regional landslide susceptibility assessment near the Ulsan petrochemical complex and Kumgang railway bridge was developed and applied using GIS. For the assessment, the geological structures such as bedding and fault were surveyed and the geological structure, topographic, soil, forest, and land use spatial database were constructed using CIS. Using the spatial database, the factors that influence landslide occurrence, such as slope, aspect, curvature and type of topography, texture, material, drainage and effective thickness of soil, type, age, diameter and density of forest, and land use were calculated or extracted from the spatial database. For application of geological structure, the geological structure line and fault density were calculated. Landslide susceptibility was analyzed using the landslide-occurrence factors by probability method that is summation of landslide occurrence probability values per each factors range or type. The landslide susceptibility map can be used to assess ground stability to protect major facility.
An ore of stone obtained from quarry lose its about 60% such as the muck and the stone-dust during the process of making the architectural block, the crushed aggregate and so on. A part of the muck is only reutilized for the crushed aggregate as road pavement materials, while the most of the muck in the shape of powder is mixed with water and then it is deposited in a sludge tank. The muck in the shape of powder is called the stone-dust. If the stone-dust is discharged and sprayed, an ecosystem will have terrible damage because the seepage of surface water, the flow of ground water and the movement of air are not occurred smoothly by packing the void of soils. As the Waste Management Law (2003) in Korea, the stone-dust is sorted out the industrial waste and the most of that is dumped in ground. Therefore, the establishments of an efficient recycling plan are necessary through the improvement of engineering properties of the stone-dust. To investigate the possibility of recycle and improvement for the stone-dust, the stone-dust and natural soils are sampled from six quarries in Korea. The various soil tests are performed by use of the mixed soils with the stone-dust content ratio. As the result of various soil tests, the recycle possibility of the stone-dust is analyzed as subbase layer materials of the roads.
In this study, the bearing capacity behavior of strip footing located above a continuous cavity in sand was investigated experimentally. The model footing test was performed in a model box made by using raining method in sand. The model footing test results were compared with those obtained from theoretically proposed equations. The results of the analysis indicate that there is a critical region under the footing. For strip footing, there exists a critical depth below which the presence of the cavity has negligible influence on the footing performance. Only when the cavity is located within this region will the footing performance be significantly affected by the presence of the cavity. The size of the critical region depends on several factors such as footing shape, soil property, cavity size and cavity shape. When the cavity is located within the critical region, the bearing capacity of the footing varies with various factors, such as the size and location of the cavity and the depth of foundation. Based on the experimental study, the following conclusions were induced. 1. The ultimate bearing capacity due to the eccentricity of a underground cavity increases at the rate of the small rather than that due to the depth of a underground cavity. This indicates that the bearing capacity of a strip footing is influenced on the depth rather than the eccentricity of a underground cavity. 2. The critical $depth(D/B)_{cr}$, by underground cavity in sand soil ground that is made by the relative density($D_r$)=55%, 65%, 75%, approaches a range of about 8~10 in case of W/B=1, and about 11~13 in case of W/B=2. 3. In case of the relative density($D_r$) 75%, the most outstanding differential settlement trend is shown in the depth of 4~8cm regardless of the size of cavity, namely, when the value of D/B is 1~2. Therefore, a underground cavity influences on not only the decrease of the bearing capacity but also the differential settlement of a strip footing.
Recently, ground pits that have been occurring frequently in urban areas are hindering traffic flow and causing property damages and loss of human life, acting as factors that are threatening the safety of citizens. Therefore, sunken ground must be quickly restored and provisions must be made for additional damage but current domestic detailed standards regarding ground pits and accurate definitions regarding causes and measures to be taken for reoccurrences are lacking. Restoration methods of sunken ground include backfilling by reusing sunken soil or other fill material and paving the road and while this is the most often used method, this only prevents ground from sinking temporarily and can not serve as a fundamental solution. Also, additional ground pits can occur on ground that is reinforced using this method due to faulty backfill material or faulty hardening. This study used Eco-friendly High-Strength Material (EHSM) as restoration material that can be used in the restoration of underground cavities that have occurred due to ground subsidence to analyze the engineered characteristics of modified dredging clay and test pieces made from changed ratios of EHSM and weathered granite soil were uniaxial compression tests were conducted and freezing-thawing tests were conducted to study strength properties according to environmental changes of restoration material, and after tests were concluded by each level, uniaxial compression tests and dynamic elasticity tests were conducted for intensity analysis. Also, to evaluate strength characteristics of the restored ground, dynamic plate load tests were conducted to verify the improvement effectiveness of the restored ground.
The contamination pattern of indoor air was simulated when groundwater dissolving benzene was used for household activities. Indoor exposure scenario consisted of inhalation, ingestion, and dermal absorption. Physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) model was used to analyze how benzene exposed to human body was distributed in internal organs. Main exposure pathways contributing total internal dose were inhalation and ingestion while the contribution of dermal absorption was very small. Man showed higher exposure rate than woman due to his higher breath rate. For a short-term exposure, benzene concentration in venous blood of SPT, RPT and liver changed rapidly while slowly did in venous blood of adipose tissue at a low concentration. For a long-term exposure, woman accumulated about 2.1 times higher than man. Most of benzene exposed to human body was removed by exhalation and metabolism at lung and liver, respectively. For inhalation and ingestion, the benzene removals by exhalation were 69.8 and 48.4%, respectively. Relative importance of removal mechanism was different according to the inflow displacement of benzene. The results obtained from this study would help understand exposure, distribution, and removal phenomena and make plans for the reduction of the health risk associated with the contaminated groundwater by various organic compounds.

Various by-product composts are applied in alpine farmland, and some of them generate many problems especially when they are not completely composted. The objective of this study was to investigate the physicochemical and spectroscopic properties of by-product composts used in Gangweon alpine uplands. Average organic matter content, C/N ratio and NaCl content in 3 species of registered composts were 33%, 13 and 0.8%, respectively, and the general quality were better than the guideline of by-product compost. Odor and contents of $NH_3$ and $CO_2$ in the registered composts were relatively lower than those in the unregistered composts. Among the 13 unregistered composts tested in this experiment, 3 species contained organic matter content less than 25%, 5 species had C/N ratio less than 10, and 8 species contained NaCl exceeded the acceptable level. Eight species in the unregistered composts contained more than 50% of water. Contents of heavy metals in both the registered and unregistered composts were lower than the acceptable level. In spectroscopic property analysis, registered composts were Band P types, and unregistered composts were Rp and P types.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the mixed treatment of compost tea and amino acid liquid fertilizer as a substitute of oil cake for the organic cultivation of maize in Goesan, Chungbuk province. As a result, nitrogen, phosphoric acid, potassium, calcium and magnesium contents of each organic fertilizer were in the order of oil cake > amino acid fertilizer > compost tea. Each of these organic fertilizers had little influence on the change of soil chemical. Individual treatment of amino acid fertilizer and oil cake for weight of an ear as well as all individual treatments for the fresh weight of 100 kernels showed significant increase, compared to the untreated control. For the corn yield of merchantable quality, each treatment of compost tea, amino acid liquid fertilizer and oil cake increased higher 3.9, 5.4 and 5.9% than untreated control, respectively. On the other hand, as a result of mixed treatment of amino acid fertilizer and compost tea, the change of soil chemical property was insignificant. The mixed treatment, Nonetheless, showed significant increase for stem height to 1st ear, grain setting length in an ear, weight of an ear, and fresh weight of 100 kernels, compared to the oil cake as a control. After all, the corn yield of merchantable quality produced by the mixed treatment was 3.9% higher than the control. Therefore, our study would be considered that the mixed treatment of amino acid and compost tea is one of organic materials that can replace oil-cake in maize.
