  • It is necessary to understand the amount of snowfall and area of snow cover of Mt. Halla to ensure the safety of mountaineers and to protect the ecosystem of Mt. Halla against climate change. However, there are not enough related studies and observation posts for monitoring snow load. Therefore, to supplement the insufficient data, this study proposes an analysis of snow load and snow cover using normalized-difference snow index. Using the images obtained from the Sentinel2 satellite, the normalized-difference snow index image of Mt. Halla could be acquired. This was examined together with the meteorological data obtained from the existing observatory to analyze the change in snow cover for the years 2020 and 2021. The normalized-difference snow index images showed a smaller snow pixel number in 2021 than that in 2020. This study concluded that 2021 may have been warmer than 2020. In the future, it will be necessary to continuously monitor the amount of snow and the snow-covered area of Mt. Halla using the normalized-difference snow index image analysis method.

  • This paper proposed a real-time monitoring system that can realize effective operation of snowplows each of the local autonomous entities secures to cope with disasters in Korea like a wintertime heavy snowfall and also can promptly cope with the spot facing a heavy snowfall disaster by doing real-time monitoring on the information of the snow-removal site and the mobility of the vehicles. Also, the study has designed a relay terminal analysis tool so that the proposed system can analyze all kinds of controlling information and diagnose the relay terminal effectively. The proposed system can realize effective and emergent coping with the situations of a heavy snowfall disaster through real-time routing trace as well as effective work progress within a short time by doing real-time monitoring on the information about the status of snow-removal work and vehicle controlling for snow-removal work as well as the location information of snow-removal vehicles in the situations of a heavy snowfall.

  • Recently, new content for e-leisure, including e-sports and e-games, has become necessary. To meet this requirement, e-leisure mobile AR studies which track human are underway. The tracking performance at long distances is important because e-leisure mobile AR is used in outdoor environments. However, conventional mobile AR applications such as SNOW and Snapchat have the disadvantage of low tracking performance at long distances. Therefore, we propose an e-leisure mobile AR in outdoor environments. The proposed e-leisure mobile AR can estimate the position of the head in outdoor environments at long distances by using color markers and the human body ratio, and then augment a virtual object at the estimated position. The performance of the proposed e-leisure mobile AR was evaluated by measuring the tracking performance and processing time.

  • The In solar power system, the height and azimuth of the sun are important parameters which control generated power magnitude. The tracking method that controls the daily generation magnitude according to latitude and longitude using the two axles is often used in the existing sunlight tracking system today. In this two-axle PV track control system, the self-load is concentrated on one FRAME. It is influenced of the regular load, snow load and the wind load, etc. It is difficult to set up the system in the conventional building. This research is a development about the small-scale economy track device of independent load-dispersing solar generation system. The position tracking algorithm is through new coordinates transformation calculating the height and azimuth of the sun.

  • The winter ecology of individual yellow-throated martens(Martes flavigula) intemperate region of Korea were studied through snow-tracking. The study was performed across 3 winter seasons, from January 2011 to February 2013. Total distance of 49.8km was snow tracked (comprising 13 snow-tracking routes) to determine winter foraging habits, general behavior and movement paths of solitary and small groups (1-6 individuals; $mean=2.9{\pm}1.6$) of yellow-throated martens. The martens in the current study were omnivorous, with their winter diet including 9 animal and 5 plant species. Yellow-throated martens searched for food near and under the fallen logs and branches, root plates of fallen trees, around the roots of growing trees, and in small holes in the ground. They also climbed trees to search inside the tree holes and vacant bird nests. Foraging activity was estimated to occur at a frequency of 1.20 times/km, while territory marking occurred 1.42 times/km on average. Of the 60 documented foraging activities we observed, 17 were successful (28.3%). Moving activity and territory marking mainly occurred along ridges, whereas foraging activity was recorded in valleys, slopes, and forest edges. To protect the habitat of this species, the entire forest should be preserved, including the valleys, slopes, and even forest edges as well as main ridges.

  • The objective of this paper was to investigate the potential of road-crossing structures as biological corridors that can overcome wildlife habitat fragmentation caused by road construction. Snow tracking on animal trace adjacent to and under bridges, underpasses, and culverts of eight rural highways in Korea was carried out. A total 89 structures were monitored and the results follow. First, the probability of road crossing increases with the increasing cross sectional size of crossing structures. Second, small to medium sized carnivores such as raccoon dog, leopard cat, and Siberian weasel use all types of structures. Finally, water deer, or large herbivore crossed only under bridges. Consequently, further studies are necessary to identify suitable types of road crossing structures that can mitigate the probability of road-kills and habitat fragmentation of water deer.

  • ADSS(All Dielectirc Self-Supporting) cable installed under high voltage power cable line suffers a variety of environmental influence, rain, wind, snow fall, chemical pollution, salt fog and electrical stress. Its lifetime is required to be at least 20 years with this harsh weathering condition. The electrical stress under high voltage power line gives rise to dry band arcing and tracking, the severest damage, on the outer sheath of cable. Finally tracking might penetrate sheath and cause the break-down of ADSS cable. Tracking resistant sheath material, therefore, should be used to protect the core of ADSS from dry band arcing and to be sure long lifetime. In this work, we discuss various commercial tracking resistant material to investigate the way of track resistance and compare their mechanical, electrical, weathering and tracking properties through serial experiments. We found track resistant material is categorized into two main type : polyethylene with metal hydroxide and polyethylene with reduced carbon black. The Liquid contaminant, Inclined plane Tracking and Erosion test says the time to track of tracking resistant material with metal hydroxide has a little longer time to track in the high applied voltage than that with carbon black, but mechanical and weathering properties were inferior to.

  • This paper presents an intelligent control approach for lateral position control of an autonomous four wheel steered snowplowing robotic vehicle. The vehicle is built for removing snow on the highway. Dynamics of the vehicle is derived and linearized for LQR control. Lateral position is controlled by the LQR method first, then the neural network control technique is introduced to improve tracking performances under the presence of load. The feasibility of using four wheel steering control is investigated by simulation studies of lateral position tracking of the Ford F-250 truck model. Performances of a LQR control method and a neural network control method under virtual snowplowing situation are compared.
