It is very important to supply safe drinking water for rural area not only a prevention of entric diseases but also a promotion of health life. It is estimated that 6,981,000 rural inhabitants were covered by the simple piped water supply system at the end of 1987 in Korea. The programme for improvement of water supply system in rural villages was initiated by the government since 1967. But most of these systems have been operated carelessly by the hands of villagers who have no proper knowledge and experience. Since most of water sources were located nearby farmland, there might be a possibility that the sources could be contaminated by pesticides and fertilizers. For this reason, it is recommended to take underground water as a water source rather than surface water such as a pond or streamwater in rural areas. However, the system is supplied from the surface water, its water quality can be improved by using of simple sand filter and simple chlorinator inexpensively. On the basis of an on-site study, conducted during 1986-87, in San-Buk Village, Keum-Sa-Myon, Yeju-Gun, Kyong-Gi-Do, the new simple piped water supply system was designed by the Institute for Environmental Research, Yonsei University, and constructed by the villagers themselves in September 1987. This simple system which is protected by metal fences consists of three main parts, pump house, vertical sand filter and water tank. The pumped water from underground flows into the upper part of the sand filter, through the sand, and out the water tank which is connected to the bottom of vertical filter. And the simple plastic-bottle chlorinator was installed in the water tank for chlorination. The water quality was remarkably improved after completion of construction. The total bacterial count was not detected from the tap water in households distributed by this simple piped water supply system. The construction cost of this system which was connected 34 households in San-Buk Village, was 4,851,000 won (approximately 6,020 U.S. dollars : 1$=805.8 won) in 1987,77% of expenses was supported by the Community Development Foundation in Korea. This case study for simple piped water supply projects will be applicable to other programme for improvement of water supply system in rural areas of Korea, and other developing countries.

Two experiments were conducted to determine the effects of reducing particle size of corn from 1,000 to 500 ${\mu}m$ in simple and complex diets for nursery pigs and broiler chicks. In Exp 1., 192 nursery pigs were used in a 24 d growth assay. Treatments were: 1) 1,000 ${\mu}m$ corn in a simple diet; 2) 500 ${\mu}m$ corn in a simple diet; 3) 1,000 ${\mu}m$ corn in a complex diet; and 4) 500 ${\mu}m$ corn in a complex diet. Overall, pigs fed complex diets had 9% greater ADG (p<0.005) and 5% greater gain/feed (p<0.01) compared to pigs fed simple diets. Also, pigs fed the 500 ${\mu}m$ treatments had 3% better overall gain/feed than those fed the 1,000 ${\mu}m$ treatments (p<0.007). At d 9, apparent digestibilities of DM, N and GE were greater for complex diets and diets with smaller particle size (p<0.02). At d 23, there were no differences in nutrient digestibility resulting from diet complexity, but pigs fed diets with corn ground to 500 ${\mu}m$ had greater digestibility of DM (p<0.02) and GE (p<0.003) than pigs fed diets with corn ground to 1,000 ${\mu}m$. A second experiment was designed to determine if four days old broiler chicks were an acceptable model for predicting the effects of feed processing procedures on nursery pigs. Chicks fed complex diets had 3% greater gain/feed than chicks fed simple diets (p<0.001). Rate of gain and feed intake were improved by 3 and 2%, respectively, for chicks fed crumbled diets (p<0.03). However, there were several significant interactions among the main effects. For instance, crumbling did not affect gain/feed in chicks fed complex diets, but rate of gain and feed intake were increased by 7 and 6%, respectively, when simple diets were crumbled (diet complexity${\times}$diet form, p<0.001). Also, gain/feed of chicks was improved by 3% when particle size was reduced in meal diets, but not affected in chicks fed crumbles (diet form${\times}$particle size, p<0.005). Thus, our data suggested that reduction of particle size of corn was important for simple and complex diets and that a complex diet with 1,000 ${\mu}m$ corn gave no better performance than a simple diet with 500 ${\mu}m$ corn.
The purpose of this paper was to figure out the efficiencies of two sampling techniques, a simple random sampling and a two-stage P.P.S. (probability proportional to size) sampling, in estimating the volume of the mature coniferous stands near Salzburg, Austria. With black-and-white infrared photographs at a scale 1:10,000, the following four classes were considered; non-forest, young stands less than 40 years, mature beech and mature coniferous stands. After the classification, a field survey was carried out using a relascope with a BAF (basal area factor) 4. For the simple random sampling, 99 points were sampled, while for the P.P.S. sampling, 75 points were sampled in the mature coniferous stands. The following results were obtained. 1) The mean standing coniferous volume estimate was $422.0m^3/ha$ for the simple random sampling and $433.5m^3/ha$ for the P.P.S. sampling method. However, the difference was not statistically significant. 2) The required number of sampling points for a 5% sampling error were 170 for the two stage P.P.S. sampling, but 237 for the simple random sampling. 3) The two stage P.P.S. method reduced field survey time by 17% as compared to the simple random sampling.
This study examined whether any changes by mental task types on postural control in chronic stroke persons. Sixteen chronic stroke persons (mean age=53.75 yr) and sixteen age-and gender-matched healthy controls (mean age=54.44 yr) took part in this study. Participants randomly performed three different tasks on the stable and unstable surfaces. The no mental task was to stand while holding a 100 g weight in each hand, the arithmetic task (mental task) was to perform a silent 1-backwards counting while standing and holding a 100 g weight in each hand, and the simple task (mental task) was to stand and hold with both hands a tray (200 g) on which a glass filled with water has been placed. Sway path and sway velocity of the center of pressure (COP) were measured to assess standing postural control by task performance using the force platform. According to the results, in stroke group, total sway path and total sway velocity of COP was significantly decreased during arithmetic and simple task compared to no mental task on the stable surface (p<.05), and sway path (anteroposterior AP, mediolateral ML) of COP, total and sway velocity (AP, ML, total) of COP was significantly decreased during arithmetic and simple task compared to no mental task on the unstable surface (p<.05). Especially, sway path (AP, total) of COP and sway velocity (AP, ML, total) of COP was significantly decreased under the simple task when compared to the arithmetic task on the unstable surface (p<.05). In healthy control group, sway path (AP, ML, total) of COP and sway velocity (AP, ML, total) of COP was significantly decreased during arithmetic and simple task compared to no mental task on the stable and unstable surface (p<.05), and sway path (AP, total) of COP and sway velocity (AP, ML, total) of COP was significantly decreased under the simple task when compared to the arithmetic task on the unstable surface (p<.05). In conclusion, the findings of this study showed that arithmetic and simple task improved standing postural control for chronic stroke patients and the type of arithmetic and simple tasks were critical factor that reduced standing postural sway in dual-task conditions. Future research should determine whether dual-task conditions, including simple task, would be effective as a training program for standing postural control of stroke patients.
Objective: This research investigated the effects of simple visual imagery and mental rotation imagery on neural activity of adults who are at high risk of smart phone addiction by measuring their electroencephalography (EEG). Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Thirty people with a high risk of smart phone addiction was selected and then were evaluated for their neural activation patterns using EEG after reminding them about simple visual imagery and mental rotation imagery. A simple visual image was applied for 20 seconds using a smartphone. This was followed by a resting period of 20 seconds. Mental rotation imagery was applied for 20 seconds. During mental rotation imagery, the rotational angle was selected at random. We compared activation patterns according to the analyzed EEG with hemisphere reminding them about imagery. Results: On the EEG, theta rhythm from the left hemisphere parietal area increased when the subjects were reminded of mental rotation imagery, and sensorimotor rhythm from close to the left hemisphere area increased when the subjects were reminded of simple visual imagery. Conclusions: Neural activation from the left hemisphere occurs for motor imagery in adults who are at high risk of smart phone addiction. These results identify a neural mechanism of adults who a have high risk of smart phone addiction, which may provide contribute to the development of motor rehabilitation for smartphone users.

In this study, a two-axis ultra-precision stage driven by piezoelectric elements is presented. The stage has a flexure-type parallel linear guide mechanism consisting of quad-symmetric simple parallel linear springs and quad-symmetric double compound linear springs. While the simple parallel linear springs guide the linear motion of a moving plate in the stage, the double compound linear springs follow the motion of the simple parallel linear spring as well as compensate the parasitic motions caused by the simple parallel linear springs. The linear springs are designed by rectangular beam type flexures that are deformed by bending deflection rather than axial extension, because the axial extension is smaller than the bending deflection at the same force. The designed guide mechanism is analyzed by finite element method(FEM). Then two-axis parallel linear stage is implemented by the linear guide mechanism combined with piezoelectric elements and capacitance type displacement sensors. It is shown that the manufactured ultra-precision stage achieves 3 nm of resolution in x- and y-axis within 30 ${\mu}m$ of operating range.

Simple bone cysts are common, benign bone tumor and for the treatment, curettage with bone grafting, resection and intralesional steroid or autogenic bone marrow injections were usually performed. Simple bone cysts of the calcaneus are relatively uncommon and curettage with autologous bone grafting were proposed for management rather than intralesional steroid injections. We would like to report 9 year-old male with calcaneal simple bone cyst treated satisfactorily by minimally invasive endoscopic curettage and autologous bone grafting with review of the relevant literature.

The shortest path between two points inside a simple polygon P is a minimum-length path among all paths connecting them which don't pass by the exterior of P. A linear time algorithm for computing the shortest path in a general simple polygon requires triangulating a given polygon as preprocessing. The linear time triangulating is known to very complex to understand and implement it. It is also inefficient in case that the input without very large size is given because its time complexity has a big constant factor. Two points of a polygon P are said to be L-visible from each other if they can be joined by a simple chain of at most two rectilinear line segments contained in P completely. An L-visible polygon P is a polygon such that there is a point from which every point of P is L-visible. We present the customized optimal shortest path algorithm for an L-visible polygon. Our algorithm doesn't require triangulating as preprocessing and consists of simple procedures such as construction of convex hulls and operations for convex polygons, so it is easy to implement and runs very fast in linear time.
The Diffle-Hellman Key Exchange scheme can produce a common session key between the two communicators, but its problem is that it makes a man-in-the middle attack possible. To solve problems like these, several protocols have been put forward, and the Simple Authenticated Key Agreement (SAKA) Protocol is among them. This protocol has been suggested by Seo-Sweeney, Tseng, and Ku-Wang, respectively, In this paper, we will put forward a new protocol that has been improved from all the original protocols mentioned above, but is still safe and quick to use, While the existing protocol divides the common session key production stage and the verification stage, the protocol suggested in this paper takes care of both of those stages simultaneously, therefore improving the processing performance.
