In this paper, we proposed a methodology of vulnerability analysis for armored fighting vehicle based on modeling and simulation. The SES/MB framework serves hierarchical representation of the structure for a complex systems and is easy to conduct modeling for the armored fighting vehicle which consists of various components. When the armored fighting vehicle is hit by the shots from threat, the vulnerability of the armored fighting vehicle is decreased by damaged or penetrated level of armors and components. The penetration is determined by the result of comparing a penetration energy through penetration analysis equation and defence ability of armor and components. And the defence ability is determined in accordance with type and defined property of normal component and armor component, all components have a weighted values for the degree of importance. We developed a simulation program for verification proposed methodology. Thus, the program analyzes vulnerability for armored fighting vehicle SES/MB framework using importance.

This paper presents the network security modeling methodology and simulation using the hierarchical and modular modeling and simulation framework. Recently, Howard and Amoroso developed the cause-effect model of the cyber attack, defense, and consequences, Cohen has been proposed the simplified network security simulation methodology using the cause-effect model, however, it is not clear that it can support more complex network security model and also the model-based cyber attack simulation. To deal with this problem, we have adopted the hierarchical and modular modeling and simulation environment so called the System Entity Structure/Model Base (SES/MB) framework which integrates the dynamic-based formalism of simulation with the symbolic formalism of AI. Several simulation tests performed on sample network system verify the soundness of our method.
System Entity Structure/Model Base (SES/MB) enhances organizing model families and storing and reusing model components in the multifaceted system modeling. However, the real world can be described not only an individual system but also a collection of those systems, which is called system of systems (SoS). Because SES/MB has a limitation to simulate the SoS using HLA/RTI, an extended framework is required to simulate it. Therefore, this paper proposes System of Systems Entity Structure/Federate Base (SoSES/FB) for simulation in a distributed environment (HLA/RTI). The proposed method provides the library of federates (FB) and System of System Entity Structure (SoSES) formalism, which represents structural knowledge of a collection of simulators. It also provides a methodology for the development process of distributed simulation. The paper introduces the anti-missile defense simulation using the proposed SoSES/FB.

Increased attention has been paid in recent years to the need of traffic management for alleviating urban traffic congestion. This paper presents a discrete event modeling and simulation framework for analyzing the traffic flow. Traffic simulation models can be classified as being either microscopic and macroscopic models. The discrete event modeling and simulation technique can be basically employed to describe the macroscopic traffic simulation model. To do this, we have employed the System Entity Structure/Model Base (SES/MB) framework which integrates the dynamic-based formalism of simulation with the symbolic formalism of AI. The SES/MB framework supports to hierarchical, modular discrete event modeling and simulation environment. We also adopt the Symbolic DEVS (Discrete Event System Specification) to developed the automated analysis methodology for generating optimal signal light policy. Several simulation tests will demonstrates the techniques.
The major objective of this paper is to analyze network vulnerabilities using the SIMVA (SIMualtion-based Vulnerability Analyzer). SIMVA is capable of monitor network status and analyze vulnerabilities automatically. To do this, we have employed the advanced modeling and simulation concepts such as SES/MB (System Entity Structure / Model Base) framework, DEVS (Discrete Event System Specification) formalism, and experimental frame for developing network security models and simulation-based analysis of vulnerability. SIMVA can analyze static vulnerability as well as dynamic vulnerability consistently and quantitatively. In this paper, we verified and tested the capability of application of SIMVA by slammer worm attack scenario.
The problem of social phenomenon is getting more complicated than past decades, and the simulation engineers need more computation power to solve the problem. Therefore, the needs of the computational resources of the modeling and simulation environment are increasing. In the perspective of the simulation, it is necessary to allocate computational resources flexibly so that the simulation can be performed per the available budget range. As an alternative to the simulation environment to accommodate these requirements, cloud service has emerged as an environment in which computing resources can be used flexibly. This paper proposes a web-based simulation framework which consists of a front-end that reconstructs the simulation model using the web, and a back-end that executes the discrete event simulation. This paper also carried out a case study which shows web-based simulation framework has better overall runtime than standalone simulation framework.

Survivability of combat system is changed by various facts in dynamic battle field. Existing survivability analysis programs for a combat system analyze statically survivability for combat system in spite of dynamic battle environment. To overcome this limitation, we propose an agent-based modeling and simulation method for dynamic survivability analysis of the combat system. To do this, we have adopted DEVS formalism, SES/MB framework and agent technology for modeling components of the combat system and crews. The proposed method has advantages of being able to analyze not only a static survivability of the combat system but also a dynamic survivability of combat system by applying responses of crews in battle field.
Discrete event modeling is finding ever more application to anlysis and design of complex manufacturing, communication, computer systems, etc. This paper shows how packet network systems may be advantageously represented as DEVS (Discrete Event System Specification) models by employing System Entity structure / Model base (SES/MB) framework developed by Zeigler. DEVS models and network structure representations support a strong basis for performance analysis of packet network systems. This approach is illustated in a typical packet network example with several routing strategies.

A simulation technique is very useful method to analyze the performance on various engineering area. To automate port systems, we have need of simulation to analyze an effect of assigning and operating devices. Thus we propose simulation methodology to be applied to an analysis, evaluation, planning for port automation. To do this, we have adopted the discrete event system specification based system entity structure / model base framework for modeling and simulation environment. We have performed modeling and simulation on entities of port systems such as container crane, yard tractor, transfer crane, etc. The proposed methodology has an advantage being able to effectively simulate on alternatives of composition and operation strategy for port systems. Some case studies will show the validity of proposed simulation methodology.
