  • Relationship between etch current and morphology and porosity of porous silicon (PS) has been investigated. The gravimetric method is applied to measured the porosity of PS. As the current density increase, the silicon dissolution rate increases, resulting in a higher porosity and etching rate. The result shows that linear dependence of PS porosity and etching rate as a function of current density. The morphology of porous silicon was investigated by using cold field emission scanning electron micrograph (FE-SEM). The size of pores formed during anodization is predominantly controlled by the current density, with an increase in the pore size corresponding to an increase in the current density.

  • The effects of the zinc oxide (ZnO) preparing process on the performance of inverted organic photovoltaic cells (OPVs) were explored. The morphology and size of ZnO nanoparticles were controlled, leading to more efficient charge collection from device and higher electron mobility compared with nanospheres. Nanosized ZnO particles were synthesized by using zinc acetate dihydrate and potassium hydroxide in methanol. Also, water was added into the reaction medium to control the morphology of ZnO nanocrystals from spherical particles to rods, and $NH_4OH$ was used to prevent the gelation of dispersion. Solution-processed ZnO thin films were deposited onto the ITO/glass substrate by using spin coating process and then ZnO films were used as an electron transport layer in inverted organic photovoltaic cells. The analyses were carried out by using TEM, FE-SEM, AFM, DLS, UV-Vis spectroscopy, current density-voltage characteristics and solar simulator.

  • Nano-scaled metal oxides have been attractive materials for sensors, photocatalysis, and dye-sensitization for solar cells. We report the controlled synthesis and characterization of single crystalline $TiO_2$ nanowires via a catalyst-assisted vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) and vapor-solid (VS) growth mechanism during TiO powder evaporation. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) studies show that as grown $TiO_2$ materials are one-dimensional (1D) nano-structures with a single crystalline rutile phase. Also, energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy indicates the presence of both Ti and O with a Ti/O atomic ratio of 1 to 2. Various morphologies of single crystalline $TiO_2$ nano-structures are realized by controlling the growth temperature and flow rate of carrier gas. Large amount of reactant evaporated at high temperature and high flow rate is crucial to the morphology change of $TiO_2$ nanowire.

  • In this paper, electrochemical techniques are used to investigate hydrothermal-electrochemically formation of barium titanate (BT) ceramic films. For comparison, the electrochemical behaviors of anodic titanium oxide films formed in alkaline solution were also investigated both at room temperature and in hydrothermal condition at 150.0 ℃. Film structure and morphology were identified by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Titanium oxide films produced at different potentials exhibit different film morphology. The breakdown of titanium oxide films anodic growth on Ti electrode plays an important roles in the formation of BT films. BT films can grow on anodic oxide/metal substrate interface by short-circuit path, and the dissolution-precipitation processes on the ceramic film/solution interface control the film structure and morphology. Based upon the current experimental results and our previous work, extensively schematic proce-dures are proposed to model the mechanism of ceramic film formation by hydrothermal-electrochemical method.

  • The synthesis of semiconductor nanoparticles is a growing research area due to the prospective applications for the development of novel technologies. In this paper we have reported the biosynthesis of Cadmium sulfide nanoparticles (CdSNPs) by reduction of cadmium sulphate solution, using the bacteria of Serratia nematodiphila. The process for the synthesis of CdS nanoparticles is fast, novel and ecofriently. Formation of the CdS nanoparticles was confirmed by surface Plasmon spectra using UV-Vis spectrophotometer and absorbance strong peak at 420 nm. The morphology of crystalline phase of nanoparticles was determined from Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra. The average size of CdS nanoparticles was in the range of 12 nm and the observed morphology was spherical. The results indicated that the proteins, which contain amine groups, played a reducing and controlling responsibility during the formation of CdS nanoparticles in the colloidal solution. Antibacterial activity against some bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis, Klebsiella planticola. CdS nanoparticles exhibiting good bactericidal activity.

  • Hydroxyapatite (HAP) crystals with hexagonal structure have been successfully synthesized by using EDTA(ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid) as chelate under hydrothermal condition. The as-prepared HAp powders were characterized by XRD and SEM. The XRD result indicated that the products were preferentially oriented along c-axis. The SEM photographs showed that the morphology of the HAp crystals was well controlled by the reaction parameters such as temperature, pH value, and the molar ratio of EDTA/Ca.

  • Nickel powders were prepared under solvothermal condition by precipitation from metal nitrates with aqueous ammonium hydroxide. The powders were obtained at in a temperature range of $190-250^{\circ}C$ for 6h. The morphology and size of nickel powders were studied as a function of reaction temperature. The synthesis of nickel crystalline particles is possible under a solvothermal conditions in ethylene glycol solution. Characterization of the synthesized nickel powders were studied by XRD, SEM(FE-SEM) and TG/DSC. X-ray diffraction analysis of the synthesized powders indicated the formation of nickel structure after reaction. The average crystalline sizes of the synthesized nickel powders were in the range of 200-1000 nm; and the distribution of the powders was broad. The shape of the synthesized nickel particles was almost spherical. The morphology of synthesized nickel powders changed with reaction condition. It was possible to synthesize nickel powders directly in ethylene glycol without reducing agent.

  • Non-ceramic composite insulator has been interested in the power industry because of its good characteristics in mechanical properties, mass product and design availability. Also it is lighter, and less unexplosive, compared to a ceramic insulator. Especially EPDM rubber composite insulator can be used for long-term in contaminated environments because of its hydrophobicity. This paper showed the rheological properties, the electrical properties, and contact angles to check the hydrophobicity and the recoverability of the EPDM compounds. Also, we investigated surface morphology of the compound by SEM.

  • In this study, we used TIPS (thermally induced phase separation) for the application of water treatment membrane, and observed the change in morphology of separation membrane due to the change of solidification temperature and heat capacity. For manufactured membrane, PVDF and silica with excellent mechanical properties and chemical resistance were used, and DOP (dioctyl phthalate), DBP (dibutyl phthalate) were used as the diluent. Using the SEM (scanning electron microscope), the morphology of each different coagulation solutions of heat capacity change was observed. As the heat capacity increased, the crystallization rate of PVDF was decreased and showed large pore. In contrast, It also confirmed that the smaller heat capacity, the faster the crystallization rate and make smaller pores.
