This paper presents the effects and the regional power distribution of an increase or a decrease of a power reserve by load flow calculations under seasonal load patterns of each country for the future power shortages faced by the metropolitan areas or by the southeastern area of the South Korea in North-East Asia. In these connections, the types of a power transmission for interconnection consist of the 765kV HVAC and the HVDC. In this paper, the various cases of the power system interconnections in Far-East Asia are presented, and the resulting interconnected power systems are simulated by means of a power flow analysis performed with the PSS/E 28 version tool. The power flow map is drawn from data simulated and the comparative study is done. In this future, a power flow analysis will be considered to reflect the effects of seasonal power exchanges And the plan of assumed scenarios will be considered with maximum or minimum power exchanges during summer or winter in North-East Asia countries.
For the purpose of predicting air pollutants concentration in Pusan coastal urban, we used an Eulerian model of flow and dispersion/chemistry/deposition process considering SST effects which estimate through POM. The results of air quality model including emission from various sources show that the seasonal variation pattern of respective pollutants was affected by the seasonal SST fields and local circulation. Horizontal deviation of diurnal SST was 2.5~4K, especially large gradients in coastal region. Through numerical simulation of wind fields we predicted that local circulation prevailed during daytime in summer and nighttime in winter. So high concentration distribution showed toward inland in spring and summer seasons, while high concentration distribution showed at inland near coast in autumn and winter.
The community of phyloplankton and water quality were Investigated 5 times from October, 1994 to October, 1995 In the east area of Chinhae Bay. Seasonal changes of enoronmental parameters were shown general pattern and related to the red tide mechanism of phytoplankton community. Seasonal variations of dissolved oxygen concentrations were affected by the photosynthetic activity of phytoplankton community and the Increase of COD at the bottom water was occurred after the red tide. The standing stocks of phytoplankton In this study area ranged 202 - 1616 Cells . ml-1 and the bloom(red tide) was formed from April to July. The diatom species, Skeletonema costahm was a dominant species all the year round and the dinoflagellate species, Alexandrium tmuense and prorocentrum triestinum were red tide species Increased standing stocks in phytoplankton bloom.
Seasonal changes in microzooplankton abundance were identified in the mesohaline Chesapeake Bay and several tributaries from July 1992 through December 1995. Ciliates numerically dominated, comprising over 90% of the total microzooplankton density and aloricate ciliates usually outnumbered loricate ciliates. Copepod nauplii accounted for the highest microzooplankton biomass (>75% in dry weight). Rotifers made small contributions to the total microzooplankton density and biomass (<5%). Time series analysis indicated a twelve month cycle in microzooplankton abundance, and mid-summer(August) peaks for copepod nauplii, and a spring through fall peaks (May-October) for ciliates. Rotifers showed two seasonal peaks: one in mid-summer(August) at the river stations and the other in mid-winter(February) at the mesohaline stations. Seasonal peaks of copepod nauplii and rotifers coincided with the mesozooplankton abundance peak. On the other hand, ciliate maximum usually occurred between the phytoplankton and mesozooplankton peaks. This pattern of microzooplankton seasonality suggests the intermediate trophic role of microzooplankton (especially ciliates) between the phytoplankton(especially picophytoplankton) and mesozooplankton in Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries.
Seasonal changes of topograpy, sediment grain size and accumulation rate on the Gomso-Bay tidal flat(Fig. 1), west coast of Korea, have studied in order to understand the seasonal accumulation pattern and preservation potential of tidal-flat sediments. Seasonal levelings across the tidal flat show that the landward movement of both intertidal sand shoals and cheiers accelerates during the winter and typhoon period, but it almost stops in summer when mud deposition is instead predominant on the middle to upper tidal flat. Seasonal variations of mean grain size were largest on the upper part of middle tidal flat where summer mud layers were eroded during the winter and typhoon periods(Fig. 2). Measurements of accululation depths from sea floor to basal plate reveal that accumulation rates were seasonally controlled according to the elevation of tidal-flat surface(Table 1) : the upper flat, where the accumulation rate of summer was generally higher than that of winter, was characterized by a continuous deposition throughout the entire year, whereas on the middle flat, sediment accumulations were concentrated in winter realtive to summer, and were intermittently eroded by typhoons. The lower tidal flat were deposited mostly in winter and eroded during summer typhoons. Cancores taken across the tidal flat reveal that sand-mud interlaers resulting from such seasonal changes of energy regime are preserved only in the upper part of the deposits and generally replaced by storm layers downcore(Fig. 3). Based on above results, it is suggested that the storm deposits formed by winter stors and typhoons would consist of the major part of the Gomso-Bay deposits(Fig. 4).

PURPOSES : Seoul introduced public bicycles to reduce environmental pollution and create a healthy society. Because the use of bicycles is highly weather dependent, and bicycles are rented by the people, member characteristics and seasonal influences should be considered. This study analyzed bicycle traffic characteristics considering seasonal and member characteristics and highlighted some implications. METHODS : The Yeouido and Sangam districts, which have multiple business districts, were taken as the areas of interest. In order to reflect seasonal and membership characteristics, the traffic volume, time of use, and characteristics of each zone were categorized by season (spring, summer, autumn, winter) and membership type (season, daily, group). In addition, we analyzed the pattern of traffic volume and usage time according to the traffic purpose after separating rental locations into residential, business, subway, and park, reflecting the land characteristics. RESULTS : The results revealed that seasonal characteristics were high for bicycle traffic, time of use, and occupancy rate for park locations in spring and autumn. In terms of membership characteristics, group and daily users appeared as major visitors for park locations, and the trends of commuter pass users showed that bicycle use meets the purpose of introducing public bicycles. CONCLUSIONS : Traffic characteristics differed according to seasonal and membership characteristics. It is necessary to involve and extend the users of the commuter pass. Situations in which commuter pass users cannot function as a group or in which daily users monopolize bicycles (especially near parks, near subway stations, etc.) must be avoided.
The Measurement of Pollution in the Troposphere (MOPITT) instrument is an eight-channel gas correlation radiometer launched on the Earth Observing System (EOS) Terra spacecraft in 1999. Its main objectives are to measure carbon monoxide (CO) and methane (CH4) concentrations in the troposphere. This work analyzes tropospheric carbon monoxide distributions using MOPITT data in East Asia and compared ozone distributions. In general, seasonal CO variations are characterized by a spring peak and decreased in the summer. Also, this work revealed that the seasonal cycles of CO are spring maximum and summer minimum with averaged concentrations ranging from 118ppbv to 170ppbv. The CO monthly means show a similar profiles to those of O3. This fact clearly indicates that the high concentration of CO in spring is caused by two possible causes: the photochemical CO production in the troposphere, transport of the CO in the northeast Asia. The CO and O3 seasonal cycles in northeast Asia are influenced extensively by the seasonal exchange of the different types of air mass due to the Asian monsoon. The continental air masses contain high concentrations of O3 and CO due to higher continental background concentrations and sometimes due to the contribution of regional pollution. In summer the transport pattern is reversed. The Pacific marine air masses prevail over Korea, so that the marine air masses bring low concentrations of CO and O3, which tend to give the apparent minimum in summer.
The total number of flies collected was 9,707, with sex ratio of 27.9% in Chinju National univ. of education campus. The fauna of fly was found to be 37 species consisting of 15 Calliphoridae, 7 Sarcophagidae, 14 Muscidae and 1 other. The dominant species, Lucillia illustris, Limnophora sp. and Phaenicia sericata constituted 48.9% of the total individuals of flies collected with the trap. The seasonal prevalence of flies was shown from the end of February to the middle of December, and the peaks of files appeared quarterly, in the beginning and the middle of April, in the middle and the end of July and from in the end of September till in the beginning of October. The great peak time of prevalence was in the beginning of October. The peaks of species appeared quarterly, during one year, the great peak time of species was in the end of June which appeared sixteen. As the result of the comparison of the seasonal prevalence of nine predominant species among 37 species collected with fly trap, were found to exhibit a specific character and showed the pattern of the each species.
The seasonal variation in the zooplankton community and hydrographic conditions were examined in three regions (inner, central, and outer regions) of Gamak Bay, Korea. Zooplankton samples were collected over a period of 12 months from January to December 2006. The hydrographical parameters of temperature, salinity, chlorophyll-a concentrations, dissolved oxygen, and chemical oxygen demand were measured. The total zooplankton density varied from 411 to 58,485 ind. m-3, with peaks in early summer. A total of 65 taxa accounted for approximately 86.9% of the annual mean zooplankton density: Noctiluca scintillans (30.9%) Paracalanus parvus s. l.(24.3%), Acartia omorii(11.9 %), Eurytemora pacifica (5.7%), cladocerans (4.1%), cirriped larvae (3.8%), Oithona similis (3.7%), and Pseudevedne tergestina(2.5%). Copepods dominated numerically throughout the year and comprised 54.3% of the total zooplankton. Most of the dominant copepods showed a well-defined seasonal pattern. The density and diversity of zooplankton in Gamak Bay were influenced by the hydrographic environment that was subject to significant spatial and temporal variations. Multivariate statistics showed that seasonal temperature was the most significant predictor of zooplankton taxa, density, and diversity, as well as the density of dominant taxa. Our results suggest that fluctuations in the zooplankton populations, particularly copepods, followed progressive increments in the temperature and COD concentrations.
In order to investigate seasonal variations of the physical environments in the region of Jinhae Bay-Nakdongpo, we carried out hydrographic surveys from November 2000 to November 2001. Horizontal and vertical distribution of salinity and temperature shows large seasonal variations. Water column is well mixed in winter and stratified in summer. Low-salinity water is distributed in the form of patches because of the drainage control at the Nakdong River. Seasonal variations in the sea near Gadeok-Sudo are affected by topography, river discharge and tidal current. Currents have been measured using a bottom mounted ADCP and DCM12 between November 2000 and August 2001 in the Gadeok-Sudo. The current in the Gadeok-Sudo shows a distinct two-layer structure with reversed current. Low-pass filtered time series of wind, sea elevation and current are coherent for the period of 1-2 days and are attributed to Ekman-like dynamics. Spatial and temporal circulation pattern shows a slight different. The subtidal current in Jinhae Bay goes northward, however is reversed in the Gadeok-Sudo mouth.
