  • Multi-domain optical transport networks are not fundamentally interoperable and require an integrated orchestration mechanism and path provision mechanism at the entire network level. In addition, ensuring network survivability is one of the important issues. MPLS-TP (Multi-Protocol Label Switching-Transport Profile) defines various protection/recovery methods as standards, but does not mention how to calculate and select protection/recovery paths. Therefore, an algorithm that minimizes protection/recovery collisions at the optical circuit packet integrated network level and calculates and sets a path that can be rapidly protected/recovered over the entire integrated network area is required. In this paper, we proposed an algorithm that calculates and sets up a path that can be rapidly protected and restored in a T-SDN network composed of multiple ring-mesh topology.

  • In this paper, we propose a deployment and operation scheme of UxNB network toward mobile IAB. By operating a UxNB network based on SDN(Software Defined Network), UxNBs are deployed in areas where mobile communication services are desired. After deploying UxNB in the service area, IAB can be set up to perform mobile communication services. For this purpose, this paper first proposes a UxNB Network Controller consisting of a UAV Controller and an SDN Controller, and proposes the necessary functions. Next, we present a scenario in which a UxNB network can be deployed and operated in detail step by step. We also discuss the location of the UxNB network controller, how to deliver control commands from the UAV controller to the UxNB, how to apply IAB for UxNB networks, optimization of UxNB networks, RLF(radio link failure) recovery in UxNB networks, and future research on security in UxNB networks. It is expected that the proposed UxNB Network Controller architecture and UxNB network deployment and operation will enable seamless integration of UxNB networks into Mobile IAB.

  • As the next-generation network architecture, software-defined networking (SDN) has great potential. But how to forward data packets safely is a big challenge today. In SDN, packets are transferred according to flow rules which are made and delivered by the controller. Once flow rules are modified, the packets might be redirected or dropped. According to related research, we believe that the key to forward data flows safely is keeping the consistency of flow rules. However, existing solutions place little emphasis on the safety of flow rules. After summarizing the shortcomings of the existing solutions, we propose FRChain to ensure the security of SDN data forwarding. FRChain is a novel scheme that uses blockchain to secure flow rules in SDN and to detect compromised nodes in the network when the proportion of malicious nodes is less than one-third. The scheme places the flow strategies into blockchain in form of transactions. Once an unmatched flow rule is detected, the system will issue the problem by initiating a vote and possible attacks will be deduced based on the results. To simulate the scheme, we utilize BigchainDB, which has good performance in data processing, to handle transactions. The experimental results show that the scheme is feasible, and the additional overhead for network performance and system performance is less than similar solutions. Overall, FRChain can detect suspicious behaviors and deduce malicious nodes to keep the consistency of flow rules in SDN.

  • Network virtualization technologies have played efficient roles in deploying cloud, Internet of Things (IoT), big data, and 5G network. We have conducted a survey on network virtualization technologies, such as software-defined networking (SDN), network functions virtualization (NFV), and network virtualization overlay (NVO). For each of technologies, we have explained the comprehensive architectures, applied technologies, and the advantages and disadvantages. Furthermore, this paper has provided a summarized view of the latest research works on challenges and solutions of security issues mainly focused on DDoS attack and encryption.

  • The conventional dynamic routing methods in Software Defined Networks (SDN) set the optimal routing path based on the minimum link cost, and thereby transmits the incoming or outgoing flows to the terminal. However, in this case, flows can bypass the middlebox that is responsible for security service and thus, thus the network can face a threat. That is, while determining the best route for each flow, it is necessary to consider a dynamic service chaining, which routes a flow via a security middlebox. Therefore, int this paper, we propose a new dynamic routing method that considers the dynamic flow routing method combined with the security service functions over the SDN.

  • The design, management, and operation of network infrastructure have evolved during the last few years, leveraging on innovative technologies and architectures. With such a huge trend, due to the flexibility and significant economic potential of these technologies, software defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV) are emerging as the most critical key enablers. SDN/NFV enhancing the infrastructure agility, thus network operators and service providers are able to program their own network functions (e.g., gateways, routers, load balancers) on vendor independent hardware substrate. They facilitating the design, delivery and operation of network services in a dynamic and scalable manner. In NFV, the management and orchestration (MANO) orchestrates other specific managers such as the virtual infrastructure manager (VIM) and the VNF Manager (VNFM). In this paper, we examine the contents of these NFV MANO systematically and proposes a security system in a virtualized environment.

  • Recently, the network configuration is being rapidly changed to enable easy and free network service configuration based on SDN/NFV. Despite the many advantages and applications of SDN, many security issues such as Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks are being constantly raised as research issues. In particular, the effectiveness of DDoS attacks is much faster, SDN is causing more and more fatal damage. In this paper, we propose an entropy-based technique to detect and mitigate DDoS attacks in SDN, and prove it through experiments. The proposed scheme is designed to mitigate these attacks by detecting DDoS attacks on single and multiple victim systems and using time - specific techniques. We confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed scheme to reduce packet loss rate by 20(19.86)% while generating 3.21% network congestion.
