  • In active SONAR, several different methods are used to detect range-Doppler information of the target. Compressive sensing based method is more accurate than conventional methods and shows superior performance. There are several compressive sensing algorithms for range-Doppler estimation of active sonar. The ability of each algorithm depends on algorithm type, mutual coherence of sensing matrix, and signal to noise ratio. In this paper, we compared and analyzed computational performance and accuracy of various compressive sensing algorithms for range-Doppler estimation of active sonar. The performance of OMP (Orthogonal Matching Pursuit), CoSaMP (Compressive Sampling Matching Pursuit), BPDN (CVX) (Basis Pursuit Denoising), LARS (Least Angle Regression) algorithms is respectively estimated for varying SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio), and mutual coherence. The optimal compressive sensing algorithm is presented according to the situation.

  • This paper is to find optimum design of plane framed structures with discrete variables. Global search algorithms for this problem are Genetic Algorithms(GAs), Simulated Annealing(SA) and Shuffled Complex Evolution(SCE), and hybrid methods (GAs-SA, GAs-SCE). GAs and SA are heuristic search algorithms and effective tools which is finding global solution for discrete optimization. In particular, GAs is known as the search method to find global optimum or near global optimum. In this paper, reinforced concrete plane frames with rectangular section and steel plane frames with W-sections are used for the design of discrete optimization. These structures are designed for stress constraints. The robust and effectiveness of Genetic Algorithms are demonstrated through several examples.

  • This study presents the development of a well placement optimization model, combining an artificial neural network, which enables high-speed calculation, with a simulated annealing algorithm. The conventional FDM simulator takes excessive time when used to perform a field scale reservoir simulation. In order to solve this problem, an artificial neural network was applied to the model to allow the simulation to be executed within a short time. Also by using the given result, the optimization method, SA algorithm, was implemented to automatically select the optimal location without taking any subjective experiences into consideration. By comparing the result of the developed model with the eclipse simulator, it was found that the prediction performance of the developed model has become favorable, and the speed of calculation performance has also been improved. Especially, the optimum value was estimated by performing a sensitivity analysis for the cooling rate and the initial temperature, which is the control parameter of SA algorithm. From this result, it was verified that the calculation performance has been improved, as well. Lastly, an optimization for the well placement was performed using the model, and it concluded the optimized place for the well by selecting regions with great productivity.

  • This paper describes an algorithm for the correction of major radiometric errors shown in MEIS (Multi-spectral Earth Imaging System) images on board KITSAT-3. MEIS images contain various radiometric errors as also shown in the images obtained from other remote sensing sensors. This paper introduces the two major radiometric error sources shown in MEIS images and the corresponding correction algorithm. The proposed algorithm was integrated to an operational preprocessing software and validated by applying the algorithm to several tens of MEIS images. This algorithm will therefore applied operationally to raw MEIS images before they are distributed to users.

  • We present two heuristic algorithms for the task allocation problem (NP-complete problem) in parallel computing. The problem is to find an optimal mapping of multiple communicating tasks of a parallel program onto the multiple processing nodes of a distributed-memory multicomputer. The purpose of mapping these tasks into the nodes of the target architecture is the minimization of parallel execution time without sacrificing solution quality. Many heuristic approaches have been employed to obtain satisfactory mapping. Our heuristics are based on genetic algorithms and simulated annealing. We formulate an objective function as a total computational cost for a mapping configuration, and evaluate the performance of our heuristic algorithms. We compare the quality of solutions and times derived by the random, greedy, genetic, and annealing algorithms. Our experimental findings from a simulation study of the allocation algorithms are presented.

  • In this paper, we use SA (Seysen's Algorithm) instead of LLL (Lenstra-Lenstra-Lovasz) to perform LRA (Lattice Reduction-Aided) detection. By using SA, the complexity of lattice reduction is reduced and the detection performance is improved Although the performance is improved using SA, there still exists a gap in the performance between SA-LRA and ML detection. To reduce the performance difference, we apply list of candidates scheme to SA-LRA. The list of candidates scheme finds a list of candidates. Then, the candidate with the smallest squared Euclidean distance is considered as the estimate of the transmitted signal. Simulation results show that the SA-LRA detection learn to quasi-ML performance. Moreover, the efficiency of the SA is shown to highly improve the channel matrix conditionality.

  • In the field of structural optimization simulated annealing (SA) algorithm has widely been adopted as an optimizer with the positive features of SA such as simplicity of the algorithm and possibility of finding global solution However, annealing process of SA algorithm based on random generator with the zeroth order structural information requires a large of number of iterations highly depending on cooling schedules and stopping criteria. In this paper, MSA algorithm is presented in the form of two phase annealing process with the effective cooling schedule and stopping criteria. With the application to optimal seismic design of steel structures, the performance of the proposed MSA algorithm has been demonstrated with respect to stability and global convergence of the algorithm

  • In a distribution of the digital image, there is a serious problem that is distributed an illegal forgery image by pirates. For the problem solution, this paper proposes an image forensic decision algorithm using an edge energy information of forgery image. The algorithm uses SA (Streaking Artifacts) and SPAM (Subtractive Pixel Adjacency Matrix) to extract the edge energy informations of original image according to JPEG compression rate(QF=90, 70, 50 and 30) and the query image. And then it decides the forge whether or not by comparing the edge informations between the original and query image each other. According to each threshold in TCJCR (Threshold by Combination of JPEG Compression Ratios), the matching of the edge informations of original and query image is excused. Through the matching experiments, TP (True Positive) and FN (False Negative) is 87.2% and 13.8% respectively. Thus, the minimum average decision error is 0.1349. Also, it is confirmed that the performed class evaluation of the proposed algorithm is 'Excellent(A)' because of the AUROC (Area Under Receiver Operating Characteristic) curve is 0.9388 by sensitivity and 1-specificity.
