  • This paper related with the performance evaluation of H-MMA (Hybrid-MMA) which is applying the adaptive modulus and adaptive step size concept to MMA adaptive equalization algorithm in order to reduce the intersymbol interference that is occurred in communication channel for digital code transmission. In the conventional MMA adaptive equalizer, the coefficient is updated by using the equalizer output and possible to compensation of amplitude and phase in 2nd dimensional QAM signal, the equalization performance were degraded due to fixed modulus and step size. For the overcomming the abovemensioned problem, it is possible to improving the equalization performance in the 2nd dimensional QAM signal by applying the adaptive modulus and adaptive step size propotional to equalizer output signal to the conventional MMA algorithm. The computer simulation was performed in the same channel for the compare the performance of MMA and proposed H-MMA which is proposed in this paper. As a result of simulation, the proposed H-MMA has slower convergence time in order to arriving the steady state than MMA. But after the steady state, H-MMA has more superior to the MMA in every performance index and the equalization noise was reduced.

  • This paper relates the AM-NM-MMA algorithm which possible to adaptive equalization performance improvement using the adaptive modulus instead of fixed modulus in the NM-MMA algorithm. The NM-MMA emerged for the tradeoff the MMA and SE-MMA algorithm characteristics, the MMA provides the less residual values in the steady state and have a slow convergence rate, the SE-MMA provides the fast convergence rate and increae the risidual values in the steady state. But the fixed modulus can not give the zero residual values in the perfect equalization state and eqaulization performance were degrade, the adaptive modulus was applied in order to reducing the residual values, and its improved performance were confirmed by simulation. For this, the equalizer output constellation, residual isi, MD, MSE, SER were used for performance index. As a result of computer simulation, the AM-NM-MMA has more good performance in equalizer output signal constellation, residual isi, MD, MSE than the NM-MMA, but not in SER performance.

  • This paper relates with the Hybrid-DSE-MMA (Hybrid-Dithered Signed Error-MMA) that is possible to improving the equalization performance by using the adaptive modulus and adaptive stepsize in DSE-MMA adaptive equalizer. The DSE-MMA possible to improve the robustness performance to external noise of SE-MMA by using the sign after adding the dither signal for get the error signal in order to update the tap coefficient. But it has a drawback of performance degradation in convergence speed and residual isi by using the fixed modulus and fixed stepsize. In this paper, it was confirmed that this equalization performance degradation was improved by applying the adaptive modulus and stepsize in DSE-MMA propotional to the output power of equalizer by computer simulation. In order to compare the improved equalization performance to currently DSE-MMA, the recovered signal constellation that is the output of the equalizer, residual isi, Maximum Distortion, MSE and the SER were used as a performance index. As a result of computer simulation, the Hybrid-DSE-MMA improve the equalization performance in every index, but gives slower convergence speed compared to DSE-MMA.

  • This paper deals with the performance comparison of blind adaptive equalization algorithm, the MMA and S-MMA, that is used for compensation of the amplitude and phase distortion simultaneously which occurs in the time dispersive channel. The present CMA algorithm is possible to compensates the amplitude only, but not in phase, so it needs to the another additional circuit for compensating the phase. In order to overcoming the abovemensioned shorthand, the improved cost function is applied to the MMA algorithm. In MMA algorithm, the error is consists of the dispersion constant only, but in S-MMA, the error is consists of the dispersion constant considering the output of decision device (sliced symbol) in order to updating the tap coefficients. By using the two kind error signal, the adaptive equalization algorithm has different performance. In this paper, we compare to the adaptive equalization algorithm performance by using the recovered constellation, residual isi, MD (Maximum Distortion) and SER as a index when the transmitting signal is 16 and 64-QAM and then passing through the same communication channel. As a result of simulation, the S-MMA can improving the Roburstness in SER performance compared to the MMA in the high order QAM signal.

  • This paper relates with the performance improvement of SE-MMA (Signed Error-Multiple Modulus Algorithm) adaptive equalization algorithm that is used for the reduction of the intersymbol interference due to the distortion which occurs in the communication channel for the transmission of 16-QAM nonconstant modulus signal.. In the conventional MMA, the fixed modulus value that is second order statistics of transmitting signal were used, and the SE-MMA was introduced in order to the simplification of the algorithm's arithmetic operation. The SE-MMA have a fast convergence speed than MMA, but it has a problem of degradation of equalization performance in the steady state due to the arithmetic simplification. In this paper, we propose the new algorithm AV-SE-MMA (Adaptively Varying-SE-MMA) that uses the adaptive varying modulus in order to obtain the error signal for updating the adaptive equalizer coefficient, and its equalization performance were confirmed by simulation. In this paper, the performance of SE-MMA and proposed algorithm were compared, and the equalizer output signal constellation, residual isi, MSE and SER in order to confirm the robustness of noise were used as performace index. As a result of performance comparison, the AV-SE-MMA has better performance in output signal constellation, residual isi and MD compared to the SE-MMA, but it was confirmed that the AV-SE-MMA has similar in the SER performance that means the robustness to the noise.

  • This paper proposes the improving the equalization performance using the variable step size in the S-MMA (Sliced-Multi Modulus Algorithm) equalization algorithm in order to minimize the effect of intersymbol interference which occurs at the nonlinear transfer function of communication channel. The S-MMA were showned for the improving the steady state equalization performance and misadjustment compared to the MMA present algorithm, this two algorithm has a limitation of performance improvement due to the adapting the fixed step size according to the error signal amplitude. In order to solving the abovemensioned problem, the proposed algorithm was adopting the variable step size proportional to the error signal amplitude and the computer simulation was performed for showing the performance improving. As a result of simulation, the proposed VSS S-MMA algorithm has more superior equalization performance compared to the present S-MMA.

  • This paper compare the adative equalization performance of the DSE-MMA (Dithered Signed-Error MMA) and QE-MMA (Quantized-Error MMA) which has a simplifies the computational operation of currently used MMA algorithm. The DSE-MMA possible to improve the rubustness to noise by using the dithered signal consider the polarity of error signal in the multiplication part. In QE-MMA, it use the polarity of error signal after performing the nonlinear power-of-two quantizing operation for easiness of H/W implementation. The same channel environment was applied, and it's performance of the output signal constellation, the residual isi and maximum distortion and MSE that means the convergence characteristics, the SER that means the robustness of external noise of algorithm were compared and evaluated. As a result of computer simulation, the QE-MMA has more good in constellation, residual isi, maximum distortion, MSE performanc than DSE-MMA. In SER, the DSE-MMA has more robust due to dither signal than QE-MMA.
