Establishment of a Wind Map of the Korean Peninsula I. Evaluation of Offshore Wind Resources Using Remote-Sensing Data (한반도 바람지도 구축에 관한 연구 I. 원격탐사자료를 이용한 해상풍력자원 평가)

  • In order to understand regional wind characteristics and to estimate offshore wind resources, a wind map of the Korean Peninsula was established using remote-sensing data from the satellite, U.S. NASA Quik SCAT which has been deployed for the Sea Winds Project since 1999. According to the linear regression result between the wind map data and in-situ marine-buoy data, the correlation factor was greatly improved up to 0.87 by blending the remote-sensing data of Quik SCAT with U.S. NCEP/NCAR CDAS reanalysis data to eliminate precipitation interference and to increase temporal resolution. It is found from the established wind map that the wind speed in winter is prominent temporally and the South Sea shows spatially high energy density over the wind class 6. The reason is deduced that the north-west winds through the Yellow Sea and the north-east winds through the East Sea derived by the low pressure developed in Japan are accelerated passing through the Korea Channel and formed high wind energy region in the South Sea; the same trends are confirmed from the statistical analysis of the meteorological observation data of KMA.

  • Recent mechatronics technology is the most appropriate high technology in the agricultural application to save repetitious labor. Cow's body parameters were measured by traditional several measurer. Image processing technology was used to measure automatically their parameters to reduce lots of labor and time. The parameters were measured form a small model cow, which is easily measured, instead to a real cow. The image processing system designed and built for this project was composed of a Pentium PC, and TV frame card two cameras which were located on side and top of model cow. 11 parameters of cow's body were measured and the error between real data and the data by image processing was less than 10%. Based on the results of this research the parameters of a real cow could be measured in the future.

  • Recent developments of small-size unmanned or manned mobile systems such as autonomous robots, exoskeleton or armored suits, micro air vehicles, and unmanned armored vehicles require long-lasting independent power sources of high energy and power density to support the systems' operation for up to 72 hours in the fields. Chemical batteries such as Ni-MH, Li-Ion, the current primary power sources for mobile devices, however, are not capable of providing enough power and energy density for the next generation high power mobile machines. For this reason, KIMM along with KERI and KIMS has been carrying out a 500W MTG development project under the DAPA's "Next generation military power source R&D program" since 2009. In this paper, a design process for a 500W MTG system currently being developed at KIMM is briefly described and the technical issues related to its development are addressed.

  • Biogas is a carbon neutral energy and consists of mostly methane and carbon dioxide, with smaller amounts of water vapor, and trace amounts of $H_2S$, Siloxane and other impurities. Hydrogen sulfide and Siloxane usually must be removed before the gas can be used for generation of electricity or heat. The goals of this project are to develope the Fuel conditioning system of Land Fill Gas for 30kW-Micro Gas Turbine co-generation system. The fuel conditioning system mainly consists of $H_2S$ removal system, Land Fill Gas compressor, Siloxane removal system and many filtering systems. The fuel requirement of 30kW MGT is at least 32% of $CH_4$, $H_2S$ (<30 ppm), Siloxane (<5ppb) and supply pressure (> 0.6 MPa) from LFG compressor. Main mechnical charateristics of Micro Gas Turbine system by using LFG have the specific performance; 1) high speed turbine speed (96,000 rpm) 2) very clean emmission NOx (<9 ppm) 3) high efficiency of energy conversion rate. This paper focuses on the development of design technology for LFG fuel conditioning system. The study also has the plan to replace the fuel of gas turbine and other distributed power systems. As the increase of Land Fill Gas (LFG), this system help to contribute to spread more New & Renewable Energy and the establishment of Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) for Korea.

  • Many companies has led to the damage case being leaked to personal information by taking cyber attack. Also, planned hacking cases continues to increase for the purpose of acquiring monetary gain or causing social disruption induction, etc. Approximately 75% of the Web site attacks exploit the vulnerability of the application. Major security issue is to strengthen the S/W development security according to the legal basis. The members of the project team is the fact that the lack of recognition of application development security. In addition, passive response and security validation/testing, etc. throughout the SDLC to the entire area is insufficient. Therefore, rework due to the belated discovery of a defect has occurs. In this paper, we examine the case of the project step-by-step security activities by performing IT services companies. And, through this, we present security measures that can be applied to the step-wise real-world projects.

Smart-tracking Systems Development with QR-Code and 4D-BIM for Progress Monitoring of a Steel-plant Blast-furnace Revamping Project in Korea

  • Blast furnace revamping in steel industry is one of the most important work to complete the complicated equipment within a short period of time based on the interfaces of various types of work. P company has planned to build a Smart Tracking System based on the wireless tag system with the aim of complying with the construction period and reducing costs, ahead of the revamping of blast furnace scheduled for construction in February next year. It combines the detailed design data with the wireless recognition technology to grasp the stage status of design, storage and installation. Then, it graphically displays the location information of each member in relation to the plan and the actual status in connection with Building Information Modeling (BIM) 4D Simulation. QR Code is used as a wireless tag in order to check the receiving status of core equipment considering the characteristics of each item. Then, DB in server system is built, status information is input. By implementing BIM 4D Simulation data using DELMIA, the information on location and status is provided. As a feature of the S/W function, a function for confirming the items will be added to the cellular phone screen in order to improve the accuracy of tagging of the items. Accuracy also increases by simultaneous processing of storage and location tagging. The most significant effect of building this system is to minimize errors in construction by preventing erroneous operation of members. This system will be very useful for overall project management because the information about the position and progress of each critical item can be visualized in real time. It could be eventually lead to cost reduction of project management.

  • The advantages of using components result from their reusability between applications. Applications can be easily implemented by adding components. In this paper, we described the design and implementation process of ASC(Application Service Component) for component-based GIS applications. In our project, there are 5 applications : Road Facility Management, Urban Planning, Cadastral Map Management, Water Supply Management, and Sewerage Management. All of them use MapBase component which supports common GIS functionality. Although they are different applications, some parts of them are same. We analyzed the developed results in 1st and 2nd year, and the achievement of UIS(Urban Information System) project in Busan Metro City in Korea. The UIS of Busan was consisted of 5 applications to equal with our project. Then, we extracted 11 common used components between 5 applications, and implemented 5 common components of them and 2 additional components. They were Authority, GISReport, IndexMap, Measurement, Search, Symbol Manager, and Attribute Display. As we offered them to companies developing application components, they were able to reduce the development time.

  • A long-term water quality study has been initiated by the Korean Ministry of Environment(MOE) - The G-7 Project--in cooperation with two national research institutes, an University research tn and a consulting firm. This study includes the development of computer software for total water quality management system, so called ISWQM (Integrated System of Water Quality Management). ISWQM includes four major components: a GIS database; two artificial intelligence (AI) based expert systems to estimate pollutant loadings and to provide cost-effective wastewater treatment system for small and medium size urban areas; and computer programs to integrate the database and expert systems. ISWQM is to provide user-friendly Decision Support System (DSS) for water quality planners. A GIS was used to create spatial database which stores all the necessary data to n DSS. GIS was also used to integrate the four components of ISWQM from data creation to decision making through Graphic User Interface (GUI). The results from the first phase of this study showed that GIS would provide an effective tool to build DSS using expert system.

  • According to the design method for constructing the crotch angle of traditional Korean men's trousers there are differences in from after its completion. Since there is no standardization of visual & aesthetic pattern for the construction method which is stablished by the calculation formular of waist girth hip girth pantleg end and upper outer leg length it is difficult to be used for educational use or for teaching materials. Therefore the purpose of this project according to five models in proportion to the physical standard of Korea in ages from 24 to 29 years old is to establish a design criterion and the standardization of construction methods by introduction the pant construction method of the crotch angle by converting the sitting posture length to seaming crotch center point both knees width in the Korean way of sitting. The production method for the pattern design is as follow: (1) The waist girth formular is {{{{ { w} over {4 } }}}}+{{{{ {w} over {10 } }}}}(2) The hip girth formular is {{{{ {H } over { 4} }}}}+{{{{ {H } over {5 } }}}}(3) The pantleg end formular is {{{{ {H } over {4 } }}}}(4) A crotch angle is fixed at 70 degress.(5) The ratio of outer leg length to leg width is 5:8 (6) The component ratio of the upper outer leg length to the pant length in 5:8(7) The ratio of the division point of front / right inner leg length and left inner leg width to upper outer leg length is 5 : 8
